The only thing I'm wondering about is Portrait's Birthday Cake. The DS allowed you to tell it your birthday, and on your birthday, Vincent would sell you a birthday cake. However, new systems don't let you input your birthday, so I wonder if it's unbuyable, or if they made it always buyable, or what.

So happy to see that this collection is good, too. The classic-vania collections are legitimately some of the only good things Konami has done in the past 10 years.
Konami is getting their stuff together again. Not only porting these game but really polishing them really well on top of giving a bonus remake to HC. Konami did really great here.
It feels a little like they're just pulling out their old franchises, dusting them off, polishing them up some and then selling them as collections to make a quick buck though. Mind you though, if they all have this level of polish, and show they're listening to criticisms like with MGS Master Collection Vol 1, I don't mind it one bit. It also gives me hope that they'll finally release a collection down the line with Harmony of Despair because I never got to play it. I would love to get my mitts on it, not to mention the droves of people you could play with via Steam, or dare I hope, with cross-platform multiplayer as well.
I think they've been improving on feedback ever since they came back with the Arcade Classics Anniversary Collection. Each one after that felt markedly improved. But these Castlevania collections are amazingly polished and put together.
I recently got into the Castlevania games and got the advanced collection. Been watching you a lot and was excited when they announced this because I knew you’d be on it.
"Portrait of Ruin" is one of my favorite Castlevania games ever made. Yhtat game alone has me sold, and I'm going to order the physical version. (Before it's gone this Sunday.)
Picked up the collection and I agree. Totally worth it, great ports. The collection credits also have a fun little cutscene in them if you chose to watch them from the main menu.
You'd think, but a lot of load/save times in games isn't "real" in the sense that there's often a minimum time enforced even if the load is actually faster, so the fact that saves are frighteningly fast is impressive, the suspend in Dawn is especially interesting because most of the time save isn't at the "Game is saved" textbox or game load, its the screen transitions, it fades from gameplay to launch screen much faster, and the lack of splash screens means getting to the title is also much quicker
Grateful for this video. Didn't watch the Nintendo Direct and had no ideas this bundle dropped, I probably would found out about it much later were it not for this

What would be pretty awesome to see in the future when all is said and done is some sort of Castlevania Master Collection, aka all the collections wrapped into one. Maybe, and this is wistful thinking, SotN, Rondo, and Adventure Rebirth could be thrown in there too. That way we could finally have all the mainline games in one place.
There are still a good number of games that haven't been put into collections, right? Namely, the 3d games, Legends, Adventure Rebirth, and the Lords of Shadow games. (And Judgment ig) I could see a Steam bundle being made, but i shudder to think of the combined file size of everything
Some stuff I've noticed while playing PoR on the collection: Some enemy attacks stay after death, which lead into some interesting situations like the Behemoth killing with tentacle puke during the freeze frame or disembodied Cave Troll tongues and shock circles staying and dealing damage until they disappear. I got two crashes while I was in Forgotten City, once near the first save/teleporter room you can find and once in the room with the Attica Helmet The Birthday Cake was renamed into the Sunday Cake, I'm guessing it appears in the shop during Sunday. The special moves that you learn from Wind are easier to perform with a stick, however, the input for weapon critical arts seems harder to do for some reason (d-pad still works fine).
I was so excited when I heard that these games were being released in this collection, they're some of my favorite Castlevania games! Here's hoping we might get a collection of the older 3d games, maybe a set of Curse of Darkness, Lament of Innocence, and Legacy of Darkness/Castlevania 64.
Didn't know this was out until I saw your review. I own every Castlevania game available on Xbox Series X and PS5 (alot of overlap but love this series). Great review, gonna go buy this
So this is a pipe dream. My first castlevania game was the Dracula X chronicles and I want a remake of that so bad. I loved what the 3d was going for, it was trying to look like you were playing Ayami Kojima's art and I think it came as close as they could on the PSP.
My only tiny teensy minuscule complain is that the only pixel perfect option when playing on steam deck is the 4th one, and that layout could allow both side screens, but it only displays one of them. I'm fairly convinced that 4th option was put for 720p displays, like the switch on handheld mode, and on 720p you can't fit both side screens, but is understandable, because the 1280*800 resolution of the deck is a bit of an outlier. And is still fully playable using the select button like in the DS. The voice lines are so crisp I can finally hear the actual voiceline of the werebats.
Im playing Dawn of Sorrow in 55'' its impresive how good its looks, not even modern pixel art games looks this good. Castlevanias/Metroids always will be the best metroidvanias. Now on Switch you can play (legally) GBA/DS Castlevanias and also all 2D metroids.
Bought this for £16 and been loving it. Outstanding value considering all these games cost £200 in total to buy for DS from CEX (a second hand games retailer in the UK).
I think Julius mode takes the right approach to "fixing" the magic seal system rather than this, but making these games obtainable at a normal price on hardware people actually have is just great. Never did have any luck hunting down my own copy of OOC.
The difference is also a canon part of Julius mode though, to the point of dialogue going "How did you kill it without the seal?" "I hit it really hard until it died" "Oh"
My second favorite collection after the Requiem Symphony of the Night / Rondo of Blood collection on PSN. It’s truly perfection. I’m not the biggest fan of Portrait of Ruin but Order of Ecclesia and Dawn of Sorrow are both legendary.

It’s only 25 bucks, which isn’t too bad considering
DS Castlevania games all had outrageous prices till now - so 25 bucks is pretty good value.
Three of the best vanias in the series for less than the cost of one at standard market price now!
It's $25 USD (I live in Canada, so it's like $34.40-something CDN), while "fulll priced" games are like $60 USD/$80CDN.
I got it for 12$
The only thing I'm wondering about is Portrait's Birthday Cake. The DS allowed you to tell it your birthday, and on your birthday, Vincent would sell you a birthday cake. However, new systems don't let you input your birthday, so I wonder if it's unbuyable, or if they made it always buyable, or what.
Based on someone else's comment, apparently they swapped it out for a 'Sunday Cake' which you can buy on Sundays.
I would never have known about this game if it weren't for you) It just so happened that there was simply no hope, and I wouldn't have never checked the Konami page for new games. Thank you, great one JupiterClimb!
bro why is maximillion pegasus reviewing the dominus collection
Because Jinzo
Because he has good taste
So happy to see that this collection is good, too. The classic-vania collections are legitimately some of the only good things Konami has done in the past 10 years.
This is a better trailer than the official trailer
I’m so sad they didn’t tag symphony of the night onto the collection, but man am I happy this is here!
prob next collection
Next collection has to be SotN and The Adventure Rebirth. At least I hope so...
Konami is getting their stuff together again. Not only porting these game but really polishing them really well on top of giving a bonus remake to HC.
Konami did really great here.
I like to think that they're making up for SH HD Collection.
🙏🏻☄️🌌🌟🐉
I swear that this guys voice was a huge part of my childhood growing up on Flash cartoons but I can't pin where it's from
Hope all of this builds up to a Castlevania 1999 game starring Julius. I'd buy that it a heartbeat.
good thing the touch screen functionality is still there. There was this strat I used to beat Death in lvl 1 Hard mode in PoR that used it.
One of my favorite videos on this channel. Well done, Jupiter! 🎉
"It's so good that this seems like a sponsored review!"
The fact that you can still use touch controls for stuff like the magic seals in DoS while playing the switch in portable mode makes me so extremely happy
To think this is the same company that gave us the Silent Hill HD Collection a decade prior. What a turnaround!
Playing through these on PC makes me feel like I'm a kid again playing these for the first time
We are getting closer to video essays by jc
Now you got the Rewind feature to help with the no hit runs 😂😂
I was like "holy sh*t DS collection of games?? LETS GO" and then when I heard we got a brand new 2D level based CV I popped off so hard you wouldn't believe, it was an insta buy from there. Haunted Castle isn't my favorite CV game but man did Revisited do it so much justice, amazing. Good job Konami.
It's shocking how good this looks, I might pick it up in the future especially since Dawn is the only one of games here I played.
Ain't no way it's shy guy mask
I recently got into the Castlevania games and got the advanced collection. Been watching you a lot and was excited when they announced this because I knew you’d be on it.
aside from the translation errors and missing US version of haunted castle it’s perfect
I personally liked the seal gimmick for DoS. Using my finger to seal the boss away after killing it felt satisfying
I can't stop playing this, it's among the very best compilation games I ever played!!!
"Portrait of Ruin" is one of my favorite Castlevania games ever made. Yhtat game alone has me sold, and I'm going to order the physical version. (Before it's gone this Sunday.)
Great review! I appreciate that you explained what was changed in the ports.
(Imagine Rando on this, would be so hype!)
Came back here to say I went and 100%-ed Portrait of Ruin as soon as I bought it. Game's great. Can't wait to play through the other two.
Now, we need the adventure collection and we're all set up!
Finally, I'll get to play all the games i never got to when i was a kid
Ah finally, since 20 years I can enjoy opening in origin quality.
As soon as I heard Order of Eclessia theme on the trailer, I threw my money to the screen
No single screen is a huge bummer. When I play these, I always play single screen. The rebirth sequel is an awesome surprise though
They really should have added single full screen mode and just gave you a bind to switch screens on the fly.
found this channel cause of this re-release. you got some cool stuff here
Picked up the collection and I agree. Totally worth it, great ports. The collection credits also have a fun little cutscene in them if you chose to watch them from the main menu.
I mean, DS's save files are only MB in size (some are only in KB). It's very understandable the load/save would be lightning fast on the modern PC.
I never had a problem with the seal drawing
So glad this came out. My DS broke a couple years ago.
Happy to report the Switch version, which I've been getting all the classic collections on, has been running perfect 20 hrs in
Also worth noting, the touch screen works on the switch in addition to the analog stick cursor, albeit not with a traditional stylus.
My Switch left analog is on it's way out. Can I play with directional button? Assuming I can.
@@jjwhy321y3 yes you can, that's how I usually play. You can set the left stick to the touchscreen in the options I'm pretty sure too
@@jack0lantrn ok thank you.
Grateful for this video. Didn't watch the Nintendo Direct and had no ideas this bundle dropped, I probably would found out about it much later were it not for this
Now if only we could get SotN on switch, it still baffles me how nintendo has not once ported it to their systems
is more than likely on 3rd party side then the Nintendo side of things
It's not really like it's Nintendo's decision. Konami game, originally on a Sony system.
Some things should stay exclusive, to keep console wars alive.
@Infernal_Puppet There's already the Requiem Collection which has Symphony and Rondo. It's just not on the Switch.
@@kingstarscream320console wars are just an outdated marketing tactic that hurt gaming in the long run lol idk why some people still want them to be a thing instead of more games being available in more systems
One important feature WAS removed in this collection: the 2-player co-op mode in Portrait of Ruin.
I've been waiting so long for this collection, and it's everything and more that I could've hoped for! Time to play the DSvanias for the first time ever!!! 😁
this made me so happy I never bought a game so damn fast. Thank you for this amazing video presenting all the features so concisely
This collection has given me hope for Konami's future. I'm positively stoked.
Yeah they've honestly been knocking out of the park with these rereleases
Probably will be a steam bundle
Only Harmony of Despair and I can die happy...
Yes please!
Some stuff I've noticed while playing PoR on the collection:
Some enemy attacks stay after death, which lead into some interesting situations like the Behemoth killing with tentacle puke during the freeze frame or disembodied Cave Troll tongues and shock circles staying and dealing damage until they disappear.
I got two crashes while I was in Forgotten City, once near the first save/teleporter room you can find and once in the room with the Attica Helmet
The Birthday Cake was renamed into the Sunday Cake, I'm guessing it appears in the shop during Sunday.
Great review, gonna go buy this
This youtube video is how I discovered this complilation even exists... THANKS ADVERTISING FOR BEING RELEVANT TO MY INTERESTS EVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
It was revealed in the Nintendo Direct from yesterday, but there can never be enough marketing I guess
@@WoobertAIOwhy would pc gamers watch a nintendo direct? This was released on steam too you know
I grabbed this collection on switch immediately when I saw the surprise trailer. It’s been so good and a lot of fun.
I really wish they gave us a full screen option that didn’t have the map screen.
Its still bigger than a DS screen 😅
So this is a pipe dream. My first castlevania game was the Dracula X chronicles and I want a remake of that so bad. I loved what the 3d was going for, it was trying to look like you were playing Ayami Kojima's art and I think it came as close as they could on the PSP.
seeing what they change with the magic seal for dawn of sorrow is gonna mess with my brain hard.
This is amazing and I can't wait to both play and see other people play this collection.
Got it on my switch and started playing as soon as i got home from work. Started on dawn and am excited to go through all of them again.
Just finished Kid Dracula. This collection will be fun!
Maaan, so hyped for this. Can't remember if it was this year or last year that Jupe predicted this would come out.
With the touchscreen solution, this means we can still use the gimmick to regain the extra health from the "Touch and Pop" in Portrait of Ruin!
0:20 very best example of game preservation and it's from Konami is wild
Im playing Dawn of Sorrow in 55'' its impresive how good its looks, not even modern pixel art games looks this good. Castlevanias/Metroids always will be the best metroidvanias. Now on Switch you can play (legally) GBA/DS Castlevanias and also all 2D metroids.
I was literally just thinking how much I wanted this right before the announcement dropped!
Konami had a real bad stretch but it's cool to see them figure things out.
I am so, so, so, so glad that this was made!
The best part is when you talk about the original arcade Castle
Bought this for £16 and been loving it. Outstanding value considering all these games cost £200 in total to buy for DS from CEX (a second hand games retailer in the UK).
This is huge and just makes this the definitive way to play these amazing games, especially Dawn of Sorrow.
Didnt even realize this was released... I went to buy it after reading the video title.
I’m not the biggest fan of Portrait of Ruin but Order of Ecclesia and Dawn of Sorrow are both legendary.
a 90° rotated layout would have been great. would work really great on switch and also pc for those who already have a vertical display
I'm really happy these got a rerelease, I really wish Konami would've continued to make these Castlevania games.
