For me, when I think Tamiya I think Sand Scorcher and Hornet. Hornet was my first car at 14 and the Sand Scorcher was the one I could never afford. Even now the Sand Scorcher has almost mythical status in my head and now I have one. I am 54 and can afford to get one and do it right. Tamiya has bought me untold hours of education and fun over the years. I have learned model making, painting, prepping, electrics and how to drive them just to name a few. I have been in RC for 40 years and am an exec at a large computer company. It matters not your background or current status. RC is the great unifier. Thanks for this vid. I know it's three years old but your brother Shippy loves it, I can feel it.
Yup. Bruiser, Sand Scorcher, and Rough Rider for sure. My dad’s neighbour let me drive his Rough Rider when I was about 9. It blew my mind. Real suspension. Metal parts. So fast. I could barely believe such awesomeness could exist. The best I’d ever seen was something from radio shack Awesome build! My LHS has one new in box. Very tempted
Dude, love your builds. This one ... just ... perfect. I mean, the build, Ampro, your weathering, ugh, just love this one. Thank you for doing you. Always a treat to see what you're up to.
That puppy is the cat's pajamas! I'm a big fan of VeeDubs and also like Tamiya kits, so think it's cool somebody created an upgrade for the Sand Scorcher. Really dig the front beam, Bobcat exhaust and OG VW dashboard.
I've been a little board with the hobby for a few months. Seeing this tho put a big smile on my face. Maybe I just need to explore something new to me other than crawlers.
All show no go lol, next we need to get Ampro a book on suspension geometry and make a V2 that actually works off road. I got to give it Ampro we need to get him a Job at Tamiya his skills and attention to detail is amazing. #AmproEngineering 👍
This is such a sweet build, modernised but still has its soul, I like it a lot. The old school 70/80s Tamiya stuff always puts a smile on my face, Super Champ, Rough Rider, Sand Scorcher and top of my list the 4X4 Pick up.
And Matt does it again... Not only do you serve a class AAA build but the style you film it in and how you edit it after is simply stunning. I've followed the build and the finale you just shown is bang on the money. You should be proud... Not many in this part of the hobby of Scale RC can even come close to what you produce. Either they are top notch builders (quite a few of those) but utterly useless on filming/photo/editing or the other way around. The complete package like you display is very rare.. Very rare. A fantastic job. Can't wait for your next one. 😁👍😎
The Tamiya Rough Rider was the first 'real' RC that I purchased and put together. What a great kit and an even better tribute build! Thanks to SBG for the great content :) Cheers, Jeff (Garage Maker Guy
There is something satisfying and cool about watching you build these trucks (livestreams) in real time, and then watching them rip. Idk why but it’s nice. Looks amazing.
First SRB I ever got to drive was back around 1987, five minutes of Tamiya hump back battery fun😁. They’re such an awesome experience to build and drive, amazing job on this!
Matt! That soil study (because you did it) on each of those running location made this one not only scale but perfect. Not to sandy not to firm just the correct surface for this build. My favorite one by far!
Great build! My first hobby grade RC was the Rough Rider so, this build brought back a lot of good memories! RC equivalent of a Restomod. It turned out better than I could have imagined! 👍
I only race so my cars barely resemble anything full size. That being said this build is about one of the coolest RC related things I've ever seen. So cool and fun. Nice work.
That is so freaking cool, I love it, not even just because of the tribute but as a build in itself, I've often longed for a Sand Scorcher, but can't justify the price over here in the UK... Awesome work, digging the music vibes too, hopefully someone can find the 1:1!
Thanks my friend. It was actually more challenging than usual to film the running video. It was crazy hot and no matter how much thread lock you apply, these little guys like to throw the axles.
I feel like it's the best example of yours of a true scale build. It's great to see how (deservedly) happy you are with it! Watching the running video, I swear I could hear the engine and the squeaks and groans of the chassis....awesome work! Also, everyone should most definitely check out the weathering video...learned a lot from it..
Man this is one seriously BEAUTIFUL Baja Bug!! It's easily Top 3 Baja Bugs I've ever seen 👌 I wish I was deep enough into building already to do something to this level 👍 I just got into RC last summer and get outta hand buying haha I've 'stopped" for now at 11 RCs in Nitro, Gas and Electric so just been getting into the building side of everything it's just been hard getting into it as I have no local friends or hobby shops to help me 👎 Only a few more RCs coming and then ALOT of spare parts, upgrades and tuning 👍 Can't wait to find my local place to meet fellow RCers as I broke my neck in a car accident 1 month ago so I'm off work doing nothing but RC! Great video as always brother 👍👍👍 sorry for the paragraph!
Enjoyed watching the vintage run, now I need to rewatch the build videos. Thinking of getting that Prusa i3 soon, just trying to figure out where to put it. Thinking of putting it in the garage in case I need to make an enclosure and vent it outdoors for certain filaments.
Every time I see this build I like it more and more it’s just insane how much detail you have been able to put into this build it is truly amazing , great job Matt!!!
Wow that is an awesome looking sand scorcher and a good tribute to the original. Excellent skills making that look quite realistic and especially down scaling it from old pics 👍
Awesome running vid Matt, liked! And maybe my favorite of all your builds...definitely top 3! I still have my original SS which I built in 82 and picked up 2 more along the way. Nothing says more tamiya than the SS, I really enjoyed this series of videos.
Dude! Awesome baja bug! Needs a shirtless tan long hair flowing hippie like driver to complete this build!#loveyafocker! You the man matt I wish a had 1/2 of what you have forgot in making rc so fun to do in scale modeling!
Ooo! Love that chassis! And all the features on that model are exceptional matey! I'm having trouble making PETG print properly. But I'm thinking about using Iron filled PLA, so I can rust it more naturally. Plus I'll be upgrading the Marlin software in my printer soon anyway, so we'll see if that helps.
Lovely build, great running vid, great sentiment. A classic baja bug if ever I saw one. Ref. your steering issue, maybe try a little toe-in on your front wheels and tweak the rear torsion bars to take a little of the wallow out of the back end?
Damn that looks good. I still have the original one that i bought when i was 16, some 39 years ago, guess I will have to see if it still works as I haven't looked at it in a few years. As i have not done anything RC related in a very long time I have enjoyed watching your channel recently and may have to get back into it.
I’ve watched this over and over and over...thanks for making my work look so amazing!
Thanks Alberto, couldn’t have done it without you!

Thanks man! I'm a huge fan of Tamiya as well and have plenty of videos on the channel. Hope you enjoy the mythical Sand Scorcher!
Cheers from China.
No matter the age. We are still young boys.
Yup. Bruiser, Sand Scorcher, and Rough Rider for sure. My dad’s neighbour let me drive his Rough Rider when I was about 9. It blew my mind. Real suspension. Metal parts. So fast. I could barely believe such awesomeness could exist. The best I’d ever seen was something from radio shack
Awesome build! My LHS has one new in box. Very tempted
Love it! The Sand Scorcher was my very first RC Car, back in the mid 80's. I bought it from a friend for £30 iirc lol I need another!
Very cool! Do you still have it?
@@scalebuildersguild Unfortunately I don't :( but I will have another soon. Will be a rere but still as much fin, I'm sure :D
Good news Matt, finally found a new Sand Scorcher kit in stock. I couldn't press buy now quick enough.
Can never go wrong with a Baja Bug! Great build!
Except when it's a Tamiya product.
SLUG BUG!!!
79 all over again. Well done Matt!!!
I'm looking forward to the documentary.
You and me both!
Matt my boy, you knocked it out of the park. It’s Amazeballs !!! Love it.
Thanks a ton!
That is impressive. The rust on the exhaust is great.
Dude, love your builds. This one ... just ... perfect. I mean, the build, Ampro, your weathering, ugh, just love this one. Thank you for doing you. Always a treat to see what you're up to.
Wow, thanks! Much appreciated!

Really dig the front beam, Bobcat exhaust and OG VW dashboard.
Man thats probably the best tamiya sand scorcher customization I'd ever seen period!👌🤯👉❤freaking gorgeous!
One of my favourite builds of all time. Just something about a sand scorcher. I’ve watched this video multiple time to convince myself to get one
You should get one!
I've been a little board with the hobby for a few months. Seeing this tho put a big smile on my face. Maybe I just need to explore something new to me other than crawlers.

Beauty. Nice work Matt.
Thanks Rick!! It would be fun to rip this around the track! Hope to get out and see you soon.
That roll cage and interior is next level sir.
The Tamiya Rough Rider was the first 'real' RC that I purchased and put together. What a great kit and an even better tribute build! Thanks to SBG for the great content :)

Glad you like them!

Probably my favorite car you have ever made. I always stare at it in background of videos. Simply amazing
Awesome!! This is the top rc channel on RUclips Hands down.
Wow, thanks!
Matt! That soil study (because you did it) on each of those running location made this one not only scale but perfect. Not to sandy not to firm just the correct surface for this build. My favorite one by far!
Thanks for that!

That fellow looks pretty nice ! Better saying : SUPER Sand Scorcher !!!! Cheers from Germany
Hey Matt the Rear angle looks like I’m watching a movie. Cool. You did an awesomeness job. I think you got Herbie jealous though!. 😂 🇨🇱👍
The running video is just magic !!! thank you Matt

Great remake! Shippy would be proud!
Love watching the suspension work. Beautiful work master Matt . Your camera work was none too shabby either.
Thanks my friend. It was actually more challenging than usual to film the running video. It was crazy hot and no matter how much thread lock you apply, these little guys like to throw the axles.
Matt, I can’t believe you didn’t mention the Lunchbox. That’s what I think of when I think classic Tamiya
Another homerun Matt can't say much more than you already have but you nailed it !

This build came out awesomely. Y'all have a badass day 🤘
Thanks! You too!
I can hear the VW chirp as it cruses along! Great build.

Couldn't agree more!
It's amazing. The cherry on top is seeing it run!

It came out awesome Matt.you are very talented.👍
Fantastic build and outstanding run footage, sir. I've got two Sand Scorchers. One vintage and one re-re. They're fun in their own way.
Definitely need to know where to go to get the behind-the-scenes on your running vid filming process, because hot damn that was a great segment!
Wow that is an awesome looking sand scorcher and a good tribute to the original. Excellent skills making that look quite realistic and especially down scaling it from old pics 👍
Thanks my friend!
That looks FANTASTIC sir! I really like what you did there.
Thank you! Cheers!
honestly. That's just beautiful!
Very nice work! We all know Skippy was addicted to bugs and he’d enjoy this one too. Unless he didn’t like RC 🤔
Great running video but that music though - woof lol. Old school Tamiya goodness!
Can't please 'em all!
That’s the Best Scorcher build I’ve ever seen!! Beautiful! Hopefully you can connect with shippys Brother. That would be the icing on the cake. 😎👍🏻✌🏻
I hope so too!
Totally awesome run video! And love the Scorcher dude!
Awesome running vid Matt, liked! And maybe my favorite of all your builds...definitely top 3! I still have my original SS which I built in 82 and picked up 2 more along the way. Nothing says more tamiya than the SS, I really enjoyed this series of videos.

Cool vid Brother. Nice camera work! Dig'n your tune choice! It fits! Right On 👊

Lovely build, great running vid, great sentiment. A classic baja bug if ever I saw one. Ref. your steering issue, maybe try a little toe-in on your front wheels and tweak the rear torsion bars to take a little of the wallow out of the back end?
Torsion bars are long gone!
Oh Yeah! Looks like blast to drive and the build is superb (as is usual for your work)!
Thanks again!
Damn that looks good. I still have the original one that i bought when i was 16, some 39 years ago, guess I will have to see if it still works as I haven't looked at it in a few years. As i have not done anything RC related in a very long time I have enjoyed watching your channel recently and may have to get back into it.
