Yes but you can die sometime, in my experience you either use sharkrepel or waterbreating potion, or revealing if you didn't decorate the chests, I did it once without any knowledge I got 1 sunken and 1 prometheus, I think it's still worth doing it my method, but I intend to improve and use aphrodi's method before the update
I also do this method with my friend but sometimes it's frustrated to find it those chest since u need some potion to keep u alive underwater plus u can only have two effects, I recommend sharkrepel and waterbreath

Iirc acrimony's are not affected by chest rarity. Same goes with sunkens in diving spots
and also because they give sunkens
if you are a vit build you wont die so easily while farming with this
