  • This video covers the basic framework of the greenhouse doors. Anyone can do it, though I recommend an impact drill in place of a normal drill. It will make the job easier and the fit will be tighter. Basically, all I do is make a frame of the size the door needs to be. In this case I have 2 doors to make for the front of the greenhouse. I didn't know it now, but I'd miscalculated the distance between the door-frame and made these doors too narrow by about 10 cms each. I fixed the issue by adding more timber and reducing the distance between each side by 10cms. they fit very nicely now. I'll do another video next week about how the doors lock and which way we decided to hinge them. It's not how you would think!
I hope you enjoy the fast tempo of the video, it was fun to make, even though I made them the wrong size. The mesh in between the slats of wood work exactly the same way as the cover on the greenhouse, sandwiched together.
Building a greenhouse can be a great addition to any garden or backyard, providing a controlled environment for growing plants, vegetables, and fruits throughout the year. A greenhouse is a structure with transparent walls and roof designed to capture sunlight, retain heat, and regulate temperature and humidity levels inside. Greenhouses come in different sizes and shapes, ranging from small portable ones to large commercial ones. A greenhouse can be made of various materials such as glass, polycarbonate, acrylic, or plastic sheeting. However, one of the essential components of a greenhouse is the door. In this article, we will explore how to make greenhouse doors at home.
Before we dive into the specifics of building greenhouse doors, it's essential to understand the different types of greenhouse doors available. Greenhouse doors can be classified based on their design, material, and function. The most common types of greenhouse doors are sliding, hinged, and Dutch doors.
Sliding doors are popular in greenhouses because they save space and are easy to use. Sliding doors consist of two or more panels that slide horizontally along a track. They can be made of wood, metal, or PVC. Sliding doors are ideal for greenhouses with limited space or where the soil is too close to the structure.
Hinged doors are another common type of greenhouse door. Hinged doors swing open and closed on hinges attached to the frame of the greenhouse. They can be made of wood, metal, or PVC. Hinged doors are best suited for larger greenhouses or those with ample space.
Dutch doors are a type of hinged door that has two separate halves. The top half can be opened independently of the bottom half. Dutch doors are ideal for controlling ventilation and temperature inside the greenhouse. They can be made of wood, metal, or PVC.
Now that we know the different types of greenhouse doors let's dive into how to make greenhouse doors at home. Before starting, it's essential to have the right tools and materials. The tools required include a saw, drill, hammer, measuring tape, screws, and nails. The materials needed will depend on the type of door you plan to make and its size. Common materials for greenhouse doors include wood, PVC, and metal.
    Making a Wooden Greenhouse Door
One of the most common materials for greenhouse doors is wood. Wooden doors are relatively easy to make and can be customized to fit any greenhouse's size and shape. Here are the steps to follow when making a wooden greenhouse door:
Step 1: Measure the greenhouse opening
The first step in making a wooden greenhouse door is to measure the opening. Use a measuring tape to determine the height and width of the opening. Make sure to measure accurately to ensure that the door fits correctly.
Step 2: Cut the wooden boards
Using a saw, cut the wooden boards to the required size. The number of boards needed will depend on the size of the door. Make sure to sand the edges of the boards to remove any rough edges.
Step 3: Assemble the door frame
Using nails or screws, assemble the door frame. Place the boards on a flat surface and use a hammer or drill to secure them in place. Make sure the frame is square by measuring diagonally across the frame. The measurements should be equal.
    Step 4: Add cross-bracing
To strengthen the door, add cross-bracing to the frame. Cut two pieces of wood to fit diagonally across the door frame. Secure the cross-bracing in place using nails or screws.
    Step 5: Attach the hinges
Using hinges, attach the door to the greenhouse frame. Position the hinges on the door frame, ensuring they are evenly spaced. Use screws to attach the hinges to the frame.

its actually 1 by 2, its very lightweight and needs reinforcing with brackets!
