Oh! It actually isn’t all that easy to use the killing curse. Moody’s lesson is abbreviated for the movie, but he tells the students that if they tried to use it on him, he probably wouldn’t even get a nosebleed. The fact that Tom CAN do that spell so easily is a thing that makes him terrifying. All of the Unforgivable Curses are pretty hard to execute properly, but the killing one is hardest.

"that's a bad omen if ever I've seen one."
You don't know the half of it, back in the day the death eaters always fired the dark Mark into the sky whenever they KILLED. Just picture this, coming home one day and finding the Dark Mark hovering over your house. The horror that strikes you knowing what you're going to find the moment you walk through the front door. Family, friends, loved ones massacred, it was one of Voldemort's most effective scare tactics when he was first in power and it's still effective. Seeing the Dark Mark again after thirteen years, it was like seeing Voldemort himself returned to full strength.

Pretty sure this is fanon, and it doesn't really make any sense. If Merlin was real he would have lived during the Roman withdrawal from Britain and the subsequent Anglo-Saxon invasions, roughly 400-500 AD. Hogwarts was founded in 990 AD, some 400 odd years later, just prior to William of Normandy's conquest of England.

A detail that I’m not sure many people noticed was when Barty crouch was murdered it was his son (as mad eye moody) he killed him because of barty crouches tick ( the way he sticks his tongue out of his mouth really fast) he noticed this and that’s why he wanted to leave so quickly after doing so. Barty crouch jr killed him because he knew that he noticed his tick.

I don't care how many times I see this movie. The ritual to restore Voldemort, and seeing him rise out of the cauldron will always simultaneously send shivers racing up AND down my spine and make me nauseous.
    Trivia:
They got the movie appearance of Voldemort almost identical to the book. There is one missing detail: in the book, Voldemort is described as having blood-red eyes with a slit-like pupil. It is understandable why they didn't use creature contact lenses on Ralph Fiennes in the movie adaptations since it would eliminate the realness of Voldemort's threatening presence.
The arachnid the imposter Mad-Eye Moody was demonstrating The 3 Unforgivable Curses on was a tailless whip scorpion.
As someone who was sorted into Hufflepuff on The Wizarding World website, Cedric Diggory's death hit hard. Especially seeing Amos run onto the quidditch pitch and hearing him shout "That's my son!! That's my boy!!"
    Backstory:
Neville was traumatized by the Cruciatus Curse's usage because his parents were tortured into insanity with it.

Voldemort begins this film still at a disadvantage. It's taken him 13 years to claw his way to this level of corporeal existence and still has no useful body or power. Most of his followers have lost their ardency, even their interest, and Lucius himself seems to treat Voldemort's situation as a 'side quest'.
As the film opens, Voldemort is trying to establish a headquarters, so he's been forced to stay in his hated muggle father's abandoned manor. Tom Riddle Sr came from an old landed family. The church nearby was built by an ancestor for his tenants and the graveyard between mainly served the Riddles, now home to Tom Sr's grave. it appears the Riddles have died out, at least the ones with money, and the estate waiting for liquidation. A caretaker is resident on the property, to keep away squatters, thieves, and vandals.
At this time the caretaker sees lights in the manor and goes to investigate, expecting partying kids. Instead, he finds 'reduced-Voldemort' still has power to magic kill.
Tennant took this role before he was asked to do Dr Who.
Harry is NOT 'living with' the Weasleys. There is a magical reason that Harry HAS TO continue living with the Dursleys. His mother's protection is temporary under perfect conditions, intended to work only until his 17th birthday, when he becomes an adult. But that protection needs 'recharging' to stay active and functional, and that requires he live with a blood relative of his mother. The only one living is Petunia Dursley.
Harry can board at Hogwarts for the school year, and he can do overnights other places, but he MUST spend time living with the Dursleys or risk his life. What you see here at the film's start is Harry staying overnight so they can get an early start to attend the Quidditch World Cup. If you see Harry at the Leaky Cauldron or Sirius's townhouse at Grimaud place, it's a brief occupation, not a change of address. No; Harry could not have left the Dursleys to live with Sirius or the Weasleys, not as a child.
I'll say it again: This is the film where Ron's hormones kick in and it colors a lot of what happens. It makes Harry miserable and it especially makes Hermione miserable. Ron has no clue about his own feelings, and what you don't know or see you can't manage.
There is a lot of bigotry concerning giants and half-giants; the low IQ of full blood giants is presumed a standard amongst half-giants even with high-intelligence magical ancestry. Hagrid was fairly exceptional, being just good enough for acceptance at Hogwarts, but Madame Maxine managed to excel to the point of being headmistress at one of only 11 magical schools in the world. Still, she denies being half giant, claiming her 10ft height is due to being 'big-boned'. (Recall, Hagrid is only 8ft tall because his wizard father was unusually short.)
The attraction between Hagrid and Madame Maxine was immediate, but the flame of romance was blown out by Her continued denial of giant ancestry, which Hagrid (proud of his heritage) could not abide. They were able to resurrect their friendship, but not their romance.
The age of adulthood in the Wizarding World is 17. This occurs by the start of the final year of school, year Seven. Many Seventh-Years have begun their professional lives while completing their schooling. Also, the reason the minimum age restriction is 17 for being in the Tri-Wizard Tournament is because it's too dangerous for underage contestants. As an adult, danger is your business. In fact, for adults in the Wizarding World, danger is a point of pride and culturally encouraged.
The first curse Moody shows is the Imperios Curse; it was used by Quirrell to make Harry walk down the stairs and approach the Mirror of Erised. And the memory of Tom Riddle used it on Ginny Weasley to make her open the Chamber of Secrets and to write on the walls in blood (rooster blood; check the book).
Honestly, is there such a thing as a 'normal year' anywhere in a magical culture?
As the franchise goes on, Rita Skeeter fashions herself more and more as a 'reporter' or 'journalist', but she began as a gossip columnist and remains a gossip columnist, printing rumor as 'fact' and 'embellishing' her writing to make a better story.
Mad-eye Moody is a celebrated auror (they hunt down dark wizards/witches and bring them to justice) with a long career. When the criminals he hunts fight back, they use terrible curses. Wizards and witches can handle physical trauma better than muggles, requiring more to cause injury and healing pretty fast when they are hurt. But magic-caused injuries are different; they kill, they cause serious permanent damage, and healing is slow and leaves scars. Moody's lost an eye and a leg and carries a good many scars.
In a later film, you'll see that Moody has a special recumbent broom he rides; his leg was removed at the hip, so he can't sit astride a regular broomstick without falling off.
'Accio' is Latin for 'summon' or 'fetch'.
Hermione tells Ron 'someone has already asked me' to the ball. She doesn't say she has a date or that she's going with someone, just that she's been asked. I believe Viktor Krum asked her and she put off giving him an answer, hoping Ron would ask her. But, OMG! (What. An. Idiot!)
In case you wonder about the age difference, Viktor is 17 and Hermione turned 15 in September (Yule = December). A two year difference is pretty common.
Viktor Krum in the maze is under the Imperio Curse, meant to attack all other contestants except for Harry. The Dark Lord wants Harry to make it to the Twi-Wizards Cup first.
I love you for the idea of there being a 'safety' mechanism on Killing Curses!
Love IS old magic. It changes lives, it changes character, it redeems or destroys. It heals or damages. There is great power in love.
'Mudblood' is the N-word version of muggleborn. A witch or wizard born of muggles, with no known magical ancestry, is a muggleborn.

    Parseltongue on Duo Lingo LOLOL
Fred and George were upset over the new age restriction imposed by the Ministry for the tournament because they would be turning 17 in a few weeks or months I think, so their aging potion wasn't all that long a stretch at all.
Shortly after the goblet spit out Harry's name, Moody said that only a very powerful Confundus charm could have affected the goblet. It was, of course, fake Moody who confused the goblet into thinking that four schools were competing instead of three, and entered Harry's name as the only student in the fourth school to ensure that Harry was entered into the competition.
Ron has always felt over shadowed by his family. He's the youngest boy with a younger sister and out of the whole family, she's the only daughter. Because Molly is so busy managing the huge family, she often forgets that Ron doesn't like corned beef, but Ron doesn't complain to her. His older brothers are successful and liked and so there's nothing really that sets him apart, add to that he's best friends with the brightest witch of their year (Hermione) and The Boy Who Lived - so Ron is constantly feeling in the shadows. Remember what he saw when he looked in the mirror of erised - he wants recognition and to be seen as the best of them all.
Not sure if you recognized him, but nifty bit of actor trivia - Barty Crouch's actor, is also the actor who played John Lumic in Doctor Who Season 2 Episodes 'Rise of the Cybermen' and 'Age of Steel'. He's the guy who invents the Cybermen in the parallel universe!
omg Weetabix - I am not a brit, I am American, but my boyfriend is a brit and lives in England (trying to get him over here or me over there at some point lol) but I hang out with him so often the brit has started to weave it's way in a bit and I had to laugh at that and then to google to make sure it was what I was thinking it referred to (breakfast cereal) lol. Also "Oooooh I wish Sirius ate you!" and "And maybe you can only use it on Wednesday and Sundays..." I am laughing too hard at this!
What makes the twist this time even more perfect, is that it explains in the books, that Alastor 'Mad-Eye' Moody is very paranoid and is well known to only drink from his own supply so as to avoid poisonings as he has put a lot of people away in Azkaban. So no one really question why he's always drinking from his flask and he has to keep the real moody nearby because of needing his hair to make the Polyjuice potion. This series does such a wonderful job of continually blowing my mind at the intricacies of the plot and call backs and references from earlier in the movies - it continually brings back spells learned in previous movies and just when you think you've got a pattern figured out (like the DADA teacher getting replaced every year and usually being very evil or bad) they throw in a curve ball in the third one when both the Prisoner and the DADA teacher were the good guys lol
You are so impressing me with what you pick up and how quickly to pick stuff up and make connections - I think you are the first reactor I have seen pick up on what Moaning Myrtle says about the blocked drain and the polyjuice potion! You are most definitely, a Ravenclaw, sir!

4:11 , Apparently, the wild hair wasn't intentional, but rather, just an oversight. The cast would let their hair grow out between production for each film, and it would be cut to suit the preferences of the director at the beginning of each new filming. The new director didn't realize it was up to him, and thought they were all supposed to be wild haired.

In the book Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Dumbledore explained to Harry that Priori Incantatem is what happened when their two wands with matching wand core connected. If you recall from the very first movie, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone or Philosopher's Stone when Harry got his wand Mr. Olivander said that the phoenix feather in Harry's wand had a matching feather in another wand that came from the same exact phoenix. The person that has the other feather in his wand is Voldemort.
Harry found out in the book version of Goblet of Fire that the phoenix was Dumbledore's bird, Fawks.
Because Harry and Voldemort has matching wand cores it means the wands are equal in power and relation. The wands really are brothers. As Harry's wand began to slowly beat Voldemort's wand it caused the Piori Incantatem spell to happen. That means the last few spells that a wand made reveals itself. So in this case not only did the last few murders that Voldemort's wand made expose itself to everyone in the graveyard, in the book version it also showed Wormtail's new silvery hand first as well.

Also, Lilly was a muggle/mudblood AND both Harry and Voldemort's wands are twins (mentioned in Philosopher's Stone), so they can't destroy/cancel each other out. What I never understood is how are you mad his mom is a muggle, but you TOM RIDDLE are also a half-blood? TF?!

So it's not an error because he calls her a muggle in the book. It is quite misleading however. People have translated his "error" to be just a heavier insult. Basically calling her equal to muggles even though he knows she can do magic. He's intentionally lowering her status and the rest of muggle-born magic folk.

Just a point about Lucius, the actor who played him just said a random spell he looked up in books and didn’t realise what it was (or so I am led to believe) - it actually goes against the books because Lucius never killed! He has his faults (he’s a death eater) but is never explicitly said that he ever killed anyone and I think Rowling has stated that. Neither did his wife, Narcissa.

Lily Potter wasn't a muggle/non-magical person. Lily was a witch. But she had muggle parents. That makes her a "mudblood" like Hermoine. Purebloods think muggles and mudbloods are equally inferior.

Harry's mother is a muggle born aka mudblood but mudblood is a derogatory term for muggle borns. The muggle borns have two muggle parents and nobody knows how they inherit magical abilities. Hermione is a muggle born, hence both her parents just being regular dentists. Harry's mother was a muggle born but she's still a witch, that's why she went to hogwarts and could do magic. Harry's father was a pure blood. So Harry is what's called a half-blood.

Apart from wanting to say I really enjoy your reactions and curious to your thoughts about the books, I wanted to explain a question that I've seen come up that the movies don't explain well.
There's a difference between a Muggle and a Muggleborn/Mudblood. Muggles are regular people without magic. Muggleborn are wizards or witches who's parents are Muggles. So Hermione is Muggleborn and so was Lily. People who have one wizard parent and one Muggle parent are Half-Bloods. This is the case for Seamus Finnegan, Severus Snape and also Voldemort. He hated the fact that his father was a Muggle. As you will have seen in the other movies, blood status is a huge thing in the wizard world, and not being Pureblood is looked down above by elitist members of the community. It also takes a while before becoming a so called Pureblood.
James Potter was a Pureblood. Lily, although a wizard, came from Muggles and so Harry is a Half-Blood. When he married and had children with Ginny, also a Pureblood, their children would still be considered Half-bloods too.

For the films and the story, all the drama and danger at Hogwarts makes perfect sense. But logically speaking, I always have to laugh when I think about how everyone always says "We're safe at Hogwarts." Don't get me wrong, I love the books and the films but I always find this aspect entertaining.😅

It had to have been relatively normal after the first wizarding war then with Harry's generation dangerous enough again for parents to start taking their kids out of school with the rise of Voldemort
