  • Reverse psychology is manipulating someone to act in a specific way by deceptively stating fake beliefs, values, and opinions or views. It is based of triggering reactance and strategic self-anticonformity.
    Techniques of Reverse Psychology:
    Tough Love
    Mirroring
    Challenging: prove me wrong
    Challenging: prove me right
    Pseudo-humility
    Inconsistency
    Nagging
    Provocation
    Denigrating (underdog injustice)
Example of reverse psychology in action:
CPTSD easily becomes psychopathy, narcissism, borderline - but also self-destructiveness
Intermittent reinforcement creates ambivalence and dissonance. The abuser is perceived as TWO separate people.
Ambivalence and dissonance yield intolerable anxiety.
To ameliorate anxiety, you might fantasize about the abuser being dead.
Killing the hated external object preserves the loved internal object.
Another mechanism is to preserve both the external and the internal objects by redirecting your hate at yourself.

I've cried every single day for over a year. Every day . As I'm watching now . This truth , this radical acceptance is almost debilitating, almost . I won't lie down. I won't give up on me . Thank you Sam thank you . They wanted me to react . My mother wants me to be ugly and rude so her narrative is very much alive . Her delusions gain evidence. In AA, we are told to pray for them , eventually freeing ourselves from the resentment.

I started doing reverse psychology on myself. At my most depressed, I told myself there is no meaning to life. I realized I don't have to follow the scripted American Dream. I choose what is success, not anyone else.

I experienced narcissistic abuse when I joined Qualcomm in 2008 dec and abuse intensified when I later joined Qualcomm US. Narc sees you based on their imagination about you, assumptions about you and not based on your true reality. Then they treat you based on their imagination of who you are... If they think you are dumb then they will treat you accordingly and also narc boss will use rest of the team members to treat you in that manner... So it becomes social proof that you are dumb that is why everyone is treating you that way... It's subtle harassment and psychological abuse...

Hi Dr. Vaknin. I am a meteorology grad student, but being raised by a narcissist, dating a narcissist, and then being stalked by his new borderline girlfriend really piqued my interest in this subject. I am a recovering human doormat who is terrible at setting boundaries. I read every academic article I could find and watched all the gurus, but I still cannot wrap my head around why someone would stalk someone else. If it fits your schedule, i would love to watch a video on the different pathologies and stalking behavior. PS.. i found your video mentioning narcissists as victims of stalking really interesting. my narcissistic father was also stalked by his love interest’s ex-husband. Like father, like daughter I suppose

Am just a couple minutes in Sam and am soooooo glad to hear you say Cluster B’s are forms of CPTSD! Exactly the conclusion I’ve reached myself in recent weeks. Thanks for these videos you’re making. Brilliant ❤️

Yes i am pretty convinced from what i have experienced with people in cluster b, i find in borderlines it is very evident when they decompensate that there's a form of chaotic mixed trauma baggage, also there's a lot of projecting going on in cluster b. I would think cluster b is some of the worst manifestations and internalization of it. Dissociation in general i think is also trauma and cptsd.

Dear Prof., do you have any videos about abusive partners who attempt to physically murder partners? Most videos do not address this severity of abuse, but to call this “domestic violence “

Do you think relationship OCD could be a remnant of splitting as a baby? I have OCD and CPTSD and PTSD, I notice the ocd flared up after someone mistreated me? It oftentimes flare up when I start to feel attached to someone.

Alright, listen up, you lot of jolly rogered sea dogs! Tom Sawyer, that sly old dog, got outta paintin' the fence by usin' his smooth-talking ways and his quick wit. So, he was supposed to be doing the painting as punishment, but instead of sulkin' around like a wet blanket, he started struttin' his stuff and makin' the job look like a right laugh. His mates, jealous as a bunch of monkeys, started beggin' him to let them have a go. And what does our Tom do? He starts tradin' with 'em! He swindled his way into getting all sorts of knick-knacks and trinkets from his mates in exchange for lettin' 'em paint the fence. And he even convinced some of the lasses to give him kisses as payment! And in the end, Tom not only dodged the work, but he got a whole lotta new gear, loads of smooches, and a right good laugh out of it all. Now, ain't that a proper blinding trick, mates?
