Soooo you’re confirming that the gap that is left up on the top of the license plate trim piece is from the crappy aftermarket bracket? Mine is bulging out horribly and it reaaaalllyyyy bothers my OCD. I just want this fixed! Can you confirm this?

Yes, at least for mine, that was the issue. Swapping the metal handle onto the OEM bracket solved both problems!
