I did your fantastic recipe today. My husband went to Yemen 5 times and he loves everything of that beautiful country. He loves Salta, too. I spent a lot of time to find Salta's recipe. I tried to make it 2 times in 2 different ways and he said it was good, but not the real Salta. After 2 years from the last time, yesterday evening I checked out for another recipe and found your beautiful channel. My husband said today: this is the real smell and taste of Salta! Ethiopians eat a very similar dish. It’s called Hulbat Marakh (a fenugreek stew with meat and potatoes). It’s so cool to see similarities between other cultures. 🙌🏽
Subhanallah, i asked and it was for your own benefit. I have eaten salta at yemeni restaurants and i know that they use small iron skillets, but i cannot find them anywhere. I thought of asking the owners, but i know how so kind yemeni people are that i know for sure he would give me one and being i know how much they love the Palestinians. maybe it was the kind of fenugreek or it could have been stale? Where did you get it and what brand was it? The same thing happens to me sometimes. It shouldn't need to soak overnight-at most a few hours. I will try and see if i can find a good brand online and then i will post any new info i get on that...
hi thanks for your message, the fenugreek powder is hard to get outside of Yemen. You can find it in Indian/Arab stores and also online like at amazon.com or spice stores. The only problem is that this one doesn't whip up the same way like the Yemeni one. Unfortunately I don't know why this is.

I love the pot a lot..until you asked whereto find it and I looked online yesterday and there are some discussions about it having lead in the glaze on the outside. So now I'm a little spooked and thinking of getting a new one
I am going to make a video soon on how to grind it at home and hopefully it will work! I know it is really hard to get it right because one time I bought it at an arab market and it didn't fluff up the way it was supposed to. But the one you get from yemen works really well I don't know exactly what is different about it but as soon as I do a little experiment I will post a video!

I am looking at other stone/clay options but those with NO GLAZES, because the colorful glazes (esp. red, orange) are what MAY contain lead. Even though the glaze on my pot is on the outside and doesn't touch the food. I am still going to put the pot aside and maybe do a lead testing kit on it from home depot before I use it again. In sha allah if i do buy a new pot for the salta, I will made a video about it. Also, if you have anyone coming from Yemen they can get good, cheap carved stone pots

What is the dry onion powder called that they cook in their lamb. Its brown. I was told they dry the onion in the sun then they back it brown then grind it. It makes great stock for lamb. Do you know the name?
Power help I bought fenugreek powder soaked it in water, then let it sit few hours went to whip it a long time and nothing never changed white and fluffy.like its supposed to I grew up with this please help what did I do wrong another recipe said to leave it over night. I tried twice.tried. by hand tried mixer and nothing.
It's to your taste! I have eaten it many ways. with eggs abd sheer and those small breads, with ground beef as you mentioned, with the dabeikh and chicken broth and chicken pieces, with goat (or lamb) and with beef. I liked it every way...depending on the weather and the mood. ☺☺☺
Thanx for ur job but the yemeni saltah isn't like this.you have to put a bbeef meat stock or even chicken then u may add any kind of cooked vegetables. The green sauce is not exactly the same ingredients it is only hot green pepper, galic , green herbs I forgot what it called in english and salt. At the end you may add salad hot tomato sauce and enjoy.

I am going to make a video soon on how to grind it at home and hopefully it will work! I know it is really hard to get it right because one time I bought it at an arab market and it didn't fluff up the way it was supposed to. But the one you get from yemen works really well I don't know exactly what is different about it but as soon as I do a little experiment I will post a video!
