amen, pop up headlights keep the rx7 an rx7..i just bought a 1984 rx7 shell that i, going to put a 4.3L V6 in because i cant source a rotary for cheap around here...first thing i wanted to know worked was the lights xD
The popup headlights suck unless you like the car looking like shit when the light are on or having the covers fly off at 60mph.

RX-8 actually is pretty good, it was a hell of a lot cheaper than the RX-7 as well. Put rotary sports cars in the hands of the masses.

I’m not a big fan when people go away from the rotary in the FD’s, but this car is gorgeous. You can really never go wrong with a big HP 2j swap

The 2JZ-GTE is an inline-layout, six-cylinder, belt-driven dual-overhead camshaft, air-intercooled, twin-turbocharged, cast-iron block, aluminium cylinder headed engine. Quite a mouthful, isn't it?
Great review as usual! It's a really well-done swap, which is awesome! The only major problem I had is your horrifying farmer's tan. You scared every child away from my home in a 50 mile radius. But that doesn't matter since it's still a great video! Keep up the great work!

Seeing that car swerve side to side was impressive. That shows the lack of traction that car has considering the power levels. Personally I wouldn't want that much power but then again I am a wimp. ;)

Soo basically its a Supra. Once you take the rotary out of a RX and put a LS or a 2JZ, it becomes a corvette or a supra

I would normally agree, and I myself do drive a rotary, but apparently the owner saved the car from the scrapyard. At that point, the choice is basically an Rx7 with a 2jz, or a bunch of metal that used to be an Rx7. The first choice is much much better.

I don't know why but I dig being able to see the gears on the cam shaft.
Putting a 2jz in an Rx7 feels like both the best thing you can do and the worst thing you can do.

I'm sorry, i cant watch yet another 2JZ swapped RX7. nothing against those engines, its just the RX7 loses all of its original personality. I've owned 3, blew all of them up. sunk tons of money into each. not once did i say to myself "maybe i should LS swap or 2J swap it" whats the point? why wouldn't i just buy a supra or a corvette?

"I've owned 3, blew all of them up" - there might be some people that want to enjoy this car without blowing up the shitty unreliable rotary motor. I think it looks and sounds awesome, sometimes people can improve on the mistakes that manufacturer made.
I blew them up because i was young and didn't know a thing about them except that more boost made them faster. don't take what i typed out of context. it was MY mistake, not the engine. I've seen several examples of rotaries with over 250k miles and still pass California emissions. don't spread around false truths. want a reliable rotary? don't skip maintenance intervals, and don't port them. make sure it stays cool. and don't throw 22lbs of boost at it when you are only properly tuned for 12. puting an engine in it from something else removes the heart of the beast. sure, its a whole new beast. just not my cup of tea.
lol, they're not unreliable. They're maintenance heavy sure, but if you do the maintenance, they tend to last much longer than the thrown around number of 125k km. In fact, I've got a rotary in my garage sitting at exactly 125k km and the only thing it needs is a new TPS, engine itself is perfect.

I would love to 2jz swap some cars and it's my favorite engine but if u have already a rb or a rotary engine in it, u shouldn't replace it
i agree rotaries are BA. People just 2j swap everything because its cheaper and more reliable than a rotary. You can get a crate 2jz for "cheap" lol

To have an amazing looking car that weighs 2,800lbs with 50:50 weight distribution.
Rotary's break a lot and when you throw fat turbos on them they break even faster
Not really, bad tuning breaks them got about 75k on 450whp build and its doing fine.
It's not 50:50 with a 2jz or the lighter LS, at least with the LS you can still run strut tower brace without modding the hood.

At least with the 2jz it could handle a 1000+ hp set up with stock internals.

Depends on what you are in to, I understand the attraction of a good V8, but the LS is a lazy feeling engine compared to the 2JZ - it can make good power, but take a lot of effort to make it rev freely. Then again, no lag...
ronaldo peralta Who ACTUALLY WANTS 1000 horsepower, you really don't realise how impractical that is. It is hard to achieve because of the car's drivetrain, there is a lot of work to the car's body, drive train and suspension to achieve that as safe as you could in a 2500lbs car with 1000 horsepower. You can make 1000, but why would you? At that weight, even 350 is enough.
They should probably put a wing on the back to help put some of the power down. Even a little ducktail spoiler will do.

I've got a 2JZ FD RX-7 out of Georgia as well. It's being finished up at a shop by my brother "Jewish Dave" if anyone knows him. He used to be the "ZUL8R" Datsun 280Z RB25 swap a couple years back. When my FD is done I'd love for you to drive it. It'll be a lot more comfortable and daily-drivable versus this more track-oriented one. Not hating, just saying. Looking forward to it!! :)))
I really like the 2JZ swapped RX7s. An LS swap would be cool also, but it's nice to at least keep it Japanese. The sad thing is that under 500whp an LS engine probably weighs less. All aluminum and no turbos, intercoolers, or other stuff.

Death trap indeed, but that is an insane setup and cool build. About the only thing that could make the car better would be to implement AWD. Imagine a Mazda body, Toyota Engine, Nissan Drivetrain; you would be THE TUNER.
