This episode means everything to me. Sacha, and the ego trip guys, were my mentors and my big brothers, and they taught me every facet of magazine making and story telling. Not to mention, quite a bit about being a professional, and being a man. And Sacha in particular gave me two of my biggest, most consequential breaks: in '97 he alley-ooped me a spot-when I was 17 years old-in the fact checking department at VIBE, and a couple years later in 2002 invited me to be the 21 year old Editor-in-Chief of Mass Appeal. Those two looks-combined with the knowlege, ambition and skill he, Elliott, Jeff, Gabe and Brent imparted on me-set up everything else that has happened in my career. And beyond our relationship, Sacha has penned some of the best articles ever written about hip-hop, and directed some of it's best documentary feature films as well. So it's rare, but overwhelming pleasure to give him his flowers. I hope you all enjoy.
I've been following Idea Generation since it started and I gotta say you have quite a network of heavy hitters!💪 You definitely know and have worked with legends!
Every time I really need that inspiration and motivation y’all drop a new episode. Idea Generation has helped me so much in recent years. Thank you for telling these stories! 🙏🙌💥
Love what he said about the two kids with boomboxes listening to metal and hip-hop, and how they're the same kid.... I don't think enough people talk about the actual comradery between underground hip-hop and punkrock. We grew up doing such similar things in those two "Underground" music scenes💯🎤👍😎
Incredible content, thank you so much for giving us insight into what it takes to be true to oneself. I would love to see an episode with Yoon Ahn if you can make it happen!
Just... wow. This was amazing. I feel like I know Sacha after re-re-rewatching my videograf tapes so much. i had no clue he found so much success since those days. I'm truly happy for him.
