Thanks for tuning into this one. It's hard for me to even articulate how much I admire Marc as a creative, entrepreneur and, most importantly, as a man. So consider this episode my effort to express all that, and share the candor, conviction and clarity of vision that Marc has been so generous to gift me with over the years. I hope you enjoy.
greetings, how can i contact you? i have been looking for a channel to contact you my reason for wanting to contact you is related more of a business proposal I've been looking forward to have a conversation with you about it and i don't know if you can give that opportunity i would really appreciate
From his popular clothing brand Ecko of the 90s and 2000s, to the big company Complex, Marc Ecko is one of the most underrated and under appreciated entrepreneurs of his era. And finally getting to his story is an absolute treat. As always you never disappoint Noah.
Ecko Clothing was the first ever sponsor for my student magazine WAH (We Ain't Hoes/Women and Hip Hop) which then turned into a trend-defining community nail salon, then a beauty tech co and now my platform of The Stack World today. Thanks for everything Marc!
I love the form of these interviews. The music, the questions, the feeling, the information, and the emotion are a perfect blend. You see the big picture. Beautiful!
I'm from Ukraine, and Ecko UNLTD was a first streetwear brand that made that street underground culture that we were living in ( grafity, hip-hop etc) legit. I remember Ecko pants was my first branded piece of clothes, it felt huge and so real, I still remember that feeling. And that was in Ukraine man, imagine the reach of that, it was impactfull! Shout to Marc and everyone involved. Respect.
The tale Marc tells about finding a tribe really resonated. When I went to art school, started a rap group with the graff kids in my class and got serious about beats, bombing and spitting bars, Ecko was the brand that really fit that tribe. Great interview as always!
I became more aware of fashion in the early 2000’s. Ecko was up there from my perspective. It’s a shame he doesn’t own it because there’s a resurgence for 00’s stuff.
Had a great time working in the graphics department at Eckō HQ In South River back in 98-99. I learned a lot. Shout out and RIP to my bro Josh AKA Dust La Rock for getting me the job!
This is epic for me. So many light bulbs went off in my head being that I loved Ecko apparel as a kid but also always being drawn to Avirex and Zoo york too, I had no clue he created those as well so that makes perfect sense. I'm an artist and designer as well and actually have one of the most well known custom clipper brands in the world but my fashion design bug has been itching at me for years now. This inspired me so much hearing his story. Kinda funny I actually had a parody shirt idea today and was looking up the complex logo but had no clue Marc created that as well. It's about damn time my Google algorithm actually sent me something I needed to see lol. I'm still very much a small fry in the grand scheme but I have monumental ambitions just like Marc. Thank you for this conversation! 💯
One of the best interviews I’ve seen with Marc. Unlabel his book changed my entire thought process for creation, and taking conceptualizations from my mind and making them into something viable was bananas. Amazing episode 🔥
These Idea Generation podcasts are Ace. I am the same age as this dude, I tagged and graffitied over my school books back in 85'. I really enjoyed this, I had the Subway Art and Spray Can Art books back in the day! Can not believe I am actually wearing an Ecko t-shirt right now watching this! ✌️ From the U.k!
I ain’t gonna lie I wasn’t really down with ecko back in the dayz but now I know the story and the struggles and what it stands for. I would support it 💯 percent now. 🙏
Same here, I knew a couple graff writers who worked with him, and I thought it was corn balls. However, after reading his book recently 😮 I've found a new sense for his work.
Hi I'm Shirley " TRIM Sister Julio . I find your life story. Motivating and very inspirational. I've been privileged to meet you. How many years back. You was always ready different. This video is amazing
Marc Ecko, I first found out when my elder brother and I started playing Marc Eckō's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure on the PlayStation 2. We really liked the game, after that we began to buy the clothes themselves, which could be obtained on the territory of the CIS, specifically in Belarus (the video itself looked in outerwear from Marc Ecko). We liked the very style of clothing, with regards to the game, I'm surprised why no one has decided to make a movie, TV series or a new sequel game based on it, because it deserves it. It was nice to hear and see Marc Ecko.
I wore this man's clothes I played his video game and I can't lie I've been to his retail outlets the outlet stores this guy's fashion brought me attention that I never had before it reflected the music I was listening to the the neighborhood I grew up in. It's great to find a motivational informative story on his come up that can help my possible come up
Always love hearing the Marc Echo story inspirational n creatively genius. "Goals!" I remember his T- Shirts at "The Hip- Hop Shop" My friends Hex n Omega owned 1992 on Melrose saying to myself them characters are dope Timberlands, baggy pants, n swinging on Chains, spray painting figures. Dope! Then came "the Rhino" such a strong memorable iconic animal figure. When the video came out I was blown away I thought " This is the coolest video game I ever seen it's us!!!" A game about Writers!!! I loved the Complex magazine also I was a firm supporter when I found out Marc was the Creator I was like whoa he does it again.
One of my favourite clothing brands, rock it to this day.. Price and quality too good, thanks for the doco, and thank you Marc for keeping me looking sharp heading into my 50's.. Comfort clothing 🤙🏾🖤
This was dope , and really refreshing for me, I was in my teens doing graffiti in NYC when the Ecko brand launched , and it was HUGE. I always admired marc growing up, and seeing his brand grow and blossom, Ecko was a major influence in my life. I really enjoyed this one. I was also the 432 thumbs up 👍, im big on numbers and synchronicity. Keep it up, this channel has incredibly poignant content.
This interview was something special I grew up on the Ecko brand & later on learned more about the legend behind the creative movement when he dropped his book. I can say he motivated me to keep going on my art journey. I’m now a Senior Designer now in my adulthood 🙌🏻 🦏
Dope interview! I love the triple threat album cover art work he did for Sean Price, Buckshot & 9th Wonder and Smif-N-Wessun!! Some of the illest album cover art.
🙌🏾 Greatness!! I went to mostly PWIs through grade school and I would be part of a handful of black kids in my classes. In middle school I started wearing all the hip hop brands. I had an Ecko hand me down red hoodie that I still have, that my big brother wore in his street fights. He cut thumb holes in the cuff part of the sleeves…..I eventually cut the sleeves off lol I still have a gray pair of Ecko cargo shorts too that I wasted bleach on, but still rollerblade in them joints 😂….Marc your threads still hold up OG I still have his video game too, that I never finished lol I have the iconic Complex mag with Lupe on one side and NERD on the other….literally grew up with this stuff man!!! NOSTALGIA
I am always listening to your podcasts alway the way from Botswana and Marc Ecko is one of the guys who have inspired me in doing the clothing brand business, though i am now into farming.
