As a kid, I didn't pay attention to these lyrics much on the radio (especially since they'd cut songs short or drop words out). So listening to this at 21 in college when I heard the full length version, and she said she need 7" or more, I said 'This lady means Business. I better drink more milk.' 👁👁🤣
So the story goes that my aunt's who were super rebellious in the 80s, performed this song at a church talent show. Apparently, they were supposed to sing amazing grace, asked my grandma for money for new dresses and shoes all that jazz, which she gave them. The time came to sing and they walked on stage with choir robes, my uncle started playing amazing grace, scratched the record then started playing this. My aunt's took off their robes and started doing the dance they did in the video, wearing sparkling sequin body con dresses that they bought with my grandma's money. Needless to say my grandma was super embarrassed, and did I mention she was one of the big mamas of the church so everyone was looking at her in disbelief. Well I'm not saying my aunt got in trouble but to this day she can't sit down without one of those bubble pillows 😂

First off, love this song!!! I always blast this song when I hear it. I was born in 89 here so I'm familiar with a lot of music from the decade I was born in. Wished I got to jam during that time but also glad I had all my close relatives who introduced me to the 80s as well. Love my decade and the jams that came with it!!!
This was the nastiest song in the 80s and I fuckin love it!!!❤❤❤This song was banned soon after they released it in several countries. Soft asses. Before Trina, Lil Kim, Nicki Minaj, Megan The Stallion, and Cardi B, there was Vanity. Nobody could match this groove. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
@@The1066BMJ it's just crazy how this song was banned. They knew how Prince was with his song writing so they shouldn't have even been surprised. They weren't even naked in the video, but there's plenty of songs, even artists, that SHOULD'VE been banned if they were worried about THIS. If they considered this nasty, imagine what they think about today's music. Back then, they were used to men being nasty, not women. But all in all, nobody could match Vanity in the 80s. Shiiiit, imagine if she actually showed some titties in this video!👀🤣They would've had a whole ass heart attack.
I really feel like every time I hear this song that this is the greatest (pop/soul/R&B/Funk) song ever written. Every aspect… The lyrics, her delivery, the melody, the arrangement, the originality….This is an absolute masterpiece.
This is way, way, waaaayyyy before the House era, where synth’s and drum machines came with pre-programmed “sounds”. Prince made that. The House guys later down the line were programming these noises into 303’s and 909’s for House and Hardcore dance sounds
I was definitely 3 or 4 yrs old straight giggin to this and my mommy..daddy…aunts..uncles…all other family encouraged me by saying “get it boo” 💃💃😂😂😭😭💃💃♊️♊️🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️#80s baby
Just about every girl group since way back then has tried and failed terribly to match the sexiness of this group. This is undoubtedly the greatest dance beat every created!

This will FOREVER be a jam!!!
Jam on it
@@Terrance-dq4bs
3:29 Jam on this
Yes
Yes indeed it will be a forever Jam
Born in '94 but I love the 80s music. Shout out to my parents for listening to this type of music raising me.
The best freakiest song that you can play anywhere and it will sound amazing
There is no other like VANITY❤
This beat is a MASTERPIECE!! RIP Prince Rogers Nelson!!!
Brings back so many memories, one of my favorite old school jams 🙌🏼❤️😜
This is still funky and forever it will be the jam!
I love her and Prince I was listening to her on my way to work today 💞
Nightclub scene Beverly Hills 2 Taggart being called Gerald Ford 😂😂
I can still see all my girlfriends and I running to the dance floor to dance to this when the DJ played it at the club ❣️
Still a hot song in 2023❣️
This was the nastiest song in the 80s and I fuckin love it!!!❤❤❤This song was banned soon after they released it in several countries. Soft asses. Before Trina, Lil Kim, Nicki Minaj, Megan The Stallion, and Cardi B, there was Vanity. Nobody could match this groove. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
It was written by Prince... so what else would you expect???
@@The1066BMJ it's just crazy how this song was banned. They knew how Prince was with his song writing so they shouldn't have even been surprised. They weren't even naked in the video, but there's plenty of songs, even artists, that SHOULD'VE been banned if they were worried about THIS. If they considered this nasty, imagine what they think about today's music. Back then, they were used to men being nasty, not women. But all in all, nobody could match Vanity in the 80s. Shiiiit, imagine if she actually showed some titties in this video!👀🤣They would've had a whole ass heart attack.
and Prince
This song was produced and written by Prince to be exact... He was a genius... RIP Vanity & Prince🙏 ... You two will never be missed...
Knowing and missing good music led me here... where you at???
Right here wit ya!!!! 2024
One of my FAVORITE songs 🎵 💃🏾
I'm an aqua too
That BASSLINE yo... ❤
This jam was still banging in the clubs when I turned 21 .. back in 2001. Vanity remains one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen. R.I.P. 😇
Appolonia can never hold a candle to vanity
Amen,Brother !
Wait now.. Vanity wasn't bad at all
At all
I say that all the time! Apollonia isn’t in the same game as Vanity
You aren't wrong... Vanity was exceptionally talented, as a vocalist. Apollonia was an opportunist, with the right look, at the right time.
She was the most beautiful human being to ever grace the earth. RIP
Vanity turned to the ministry as she got older! She was a very attractive mixed- ethnic woman, when she was young!
Definitely .. Vanity remains the most beautiful woman I've ever seen 😲
The first time hearing it was on Eddie Murphy's beverly hill's cop in the strip club at the table..man you change!!!
Philip?! Hey man, I knew it was you!
@@rugs_official gimme a kiss baby uff lol
I remember that scene too.
Yes same here!!
I picture him sitting down doing that lol dance every time I hear this lol
It's a drum machine. You can buy one and program it yourself.
Vanity by herself destroys current gurls like beyonce, gaga and cardi
Who’s here because it’s not on Spotify?
Nah fr tho Spotify being mad stingy
If you want the single on vinyl you are looking T North of 20+ quid.. very rare.
Spotify sucks
Me
I'm here bc I heard this on my Grandparents radio like 2-3 years ago 🤭
Prince always had an on spot every single time he knew everything about music arranging everything that’s what made him the way he was so talented and gifted. It’s sad that he’s not here anymore.
this song had a heavy influence on hip hop and music in general for YEARS
When she say’s mystery, I just melt. Vanity is the hottest girl ever.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Haven't heard this song since the 80's!! I loved those years.
RIP Vanity 🌹
Wow r they all passed on?
@@stephanieb8239 just the lead singer Vanity.
2023! Still bangin'
Yes!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Capricorn Queen Boss, enjoy your music during my young days.❤❤❤❤😊

I was 2 when it came out lol. I remember seeing in the late 80's and this song playing
That beats actually crazy 🥀🔥
The ideal night club track. First time I heard this was when I was 14 (early 1984). Pretty good quality and a cool song.
Well done. 2 thumbs up. :o)
its was big in 1982 throughout night clubs in the US
Just remember what iconic scene from BHC is this classic song.
"Yo, Billy! I think she likes you!" Hahahahaha 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
@@carlosmarquez9178 "Yo Billy give her this $ she'll go nuts."
Thank You Beverly Hills Cop!
The rhythm on here is kicking! Boss drum track! Made for dancing.
There is absolutely no song in the world right now that beats this classic!
If I were a baseball player, this would be my walk-up song. 😝
