I couldn't disagree more. I don't want faster pacing. It's perfect as it is. The dialog is what makes it so good. This series gets a 10/10 on every episode for me. That being said I want an action filled and amazing season finale.
Last weeks episode he rated a 1/10..... a truly shocking (to me) rating. 1/10 implies it's one of the worst episodes of TV/Star Wars content there is. Meanwhile it was routinely praised by the broader community as one of the best episodes of the season. Now moving on to this week, an episode that had "more" going on than last weeks technically speaking. I thought for sure this time he would give this episode praise and have enjoyed it because lets be honest, it was a very good episode. But nope, once again a half-arsed review, almost apathetic and disinterested. I think at this point SWT is somehow immune to tensions and suspense? It's like these feelings don't even register for him. I really don't get it
@@sweatynerd6761 there is a lot that I liked about Kenobi and BoBF. However, it's clear now that the quality of these series can be much higher than that was delivered in those series. I think the group of directors they use for those shows are good but I think that they simply don't compare to Gilroy and his crew on Andor. What I'd like to see is Gilroy and Team work with Filoni and Fav to step up Mando and other shows like this. It's not going to happen but I wish it would. I remember when they released the sizzle real for this show all those years ago.. I knew this was going to be special since then.
not just that but like why is rouge one and this so desiccated towards its source material while makes something new yet fresh entirely, not heaping piles of garbage like boba fett, sequals, etc
Would not be fitting. Kenobi was meant as a "turn off your brain" type of show. Whearas this show was going for something deeper. But who knows? If this show actually gets the right amount of appreciation, then they might go fir a different approach for fututre projects
@@Chemical_Argentum He means it would be fitting if Kenobi was reworked into what it always should have been: the greatest thing to come out of Disney+ honoring one of the greatest characters of cinema of all time
I've agreed with you for every series, but for andor I feel different. I feel like it is a fresh breath from the other star wars shows which are similar feeling. It also disproves mark ruffalo saying "Every star wars thing is the same"
BORING. That's the show's real weakness. It's only a 'breath of fresh air' because Kenobi and Beta Fett were absolutely TRASH shows! Bad viewer ratings means Andor will die a slow death into obscurity. If you don't get the ratings, you don't get additional seasons. Otherwise you're just throwing money into the trash fire.
This is actually contending for my favorite Star Wars content ever. Rebellions don’t build overnight. The empire slowly squeezing its fist gives this show a tone like nothing else. It’s my favorite show period this year
I agree so hard. This show imo has the best acting in Star Wars Period. Yes, even the OGs. The cast is so impressive from A to Z&, the music is also top notch, as always, the CGI/VFX scenes would all deserve a place in the Hall of Fame of Cinema. Btw, I am not saying all Star Wars projects should have the same tone/paste. But I do want way more of this. Give me a Republic Commando show with that tone please god.
The medic wasn’t callous, ruthless or a representative of the empire. He was helpless in the face of the ruthlessness of the empire. He is forced to go around making a show of ‘medical care’ for the inmates, but at best he simply only ever either keep them up and running at minimal effort or terminate them like a bad part. He seems like a passenger forced to endure what little he is allowed to help.
Yep I'm not surprised Theory wasn't able to catch that when the medic himself unambiguously states that he's a prisoner. It's almost like Theory has been sleeping through the whole show and has missed a lot of the details. He's like a 7 years old kid whose only interest is "lightsaber go brrrr lmao".
Agree, I felt nothing but empathy for him, he was doing all he was able to do, and you could see the despair in his eyes. Such fantastic acting from every single actor in this series - really speaks to how good the directing is, and how well crafted the scripts are to get performances of this level out of everyone on set.
@@noleftturnunstoned He's not thick at all, I just think he wants his Star Wars to be Big Dumb Action. Lots of smart people like Big Dumb Action. I think he's disappointed he's not getting a show where he can switch off his mind and just enjoy the spectacle. Personally I'm loving this far more cerebral take on the Star Wars universe, much as I love The Mandalorian - this show is superior for me.
This show is rapidly becoming a masterpiece in my opinion. Character driven story, great actors, no fluff, darker and more brutal content.... need more Star Wars like this!
100%. The cinematography is amazing too. From crisp and clean prison to dirty and dank planet scenes; contrasts, camera angles, ripping sounds of tie fighters... just really well filmed.
It's a tall statement, but it reeks of GoT to me, multi-faceted plot with intertwinning plotlines, each and all developing not only the plot but also the world and the characters It's unnatural, after all we have been delievered by Disney
@@2kidsnosleep Reminds me of the dank and brittle Wall sliding over to the war and cozy King's Landing in Game of Thrones This kind of is the beauty that makes it work, multiple plot lines, all intertwined yet contrasting, keeping you always engaged, not just a 100% prison episode followed by ISB episode It feels so contrasting say from Boba, where you followed him doing...shit...then going to bacta, relieve his tribal dies...go back to doing shit...then be completely overshadowed by Mando, back to bacta, and I forgot the ending
This was genuinely the first time a Star Wars showed legit scared me. Like I had so much anxiety this episode. Seeing Bix tortured, seeing the prisoners inviroment, seeing the old man killed. It was a lot of dark moments. I loved it though!
Dedra interrogating Bix was one of the most chilling scenes of that kind I've ever seen. She didn't have to threaten with physical torture. Her delivery was so matter of fact in all of its cruelty.
Agreed, based on what the guy said and her reaction during and after, I’d say she’s a bit more then just “exhausted..” a good portrayal of someone being totally broken more like, and probably the darkest departure from older, light hearted Star Wars in recent memory. Sometimes I think we’re more similar to utterly callused Dedra, being able to watch this with little affect/reaction. Reality of war indeed
Can we all just take a minute to appreciate how damn good Denise Gough is playing Dedra Meero! The facial expressions and twitches, the way she carries herself with ambition and authority. Dedra is such a good villain. Would like to see more development of her
Overall the show is pretty interesting, I haven’t got bored watching it one bit. My favorite part of the show so far is the prison scenes. There’s something interesting about saying all the inmates/prisoners realize that there is no escaping the prison and they’re gonna have to have inevitably escape because that’s gonna be their only option
The ScreenCrush analysis of this episode noted that George Lucas' THX 1138 has influenced the Andor prison episodes - SWT did not mention this detail at all which I find to be problematic. As Robert Meyer Burnett has stated many franchise fans under 35 have a limited film vocabulary, and hence easily regard material such as Andor as 'boring', 'slow' and even 'not Star Wars'. Many so-called Star Wars fans who have not been keen on Andor have failed to recognise the links that episodes 8-10 of Andor has to Lucas' 1971 film THX 1138. "It's like poetry, it rhymes."
@@pauladdae3130, Perhaps, it should be obvious, but whose quote fills the last line of your post? I ask because it struck me that it's something that another SW YT content provider, whom I would characterize as being in a rather different league than SWT (or, RMB more generally), has referenced several times, but said in those exact words, just a few days ago in one of his releases.
@@melvinloyalist6758 yes, it was a general statement. Of course there will be those who appreciate it, bit it seems that most of those who have problems with Andor was those used to the whizz-bang 'Star Wars light' represented in Mando and Ashoka.
I don't see how anyone can say this episode was drawn out. It was tense nearly the entire episode, and on a different sort of way than episode 6. When the episode ended I was in shock about how quickly time had passed. And you can't tell me the that the scene change from Bix's tortured scream to the drilling was not masterfully done.
Everything about this show is absolute top notch. The writing, the acting, the soundtrack, the cinematography…..nothing comes close from a Star Wars content standpoint The fact that SWT considers these shows to be average content tells a lot about him as a reviewer and honestly his opinions are worthless going forward. The fact that he doesn’t see the depth of this show is incredible. He’s a lazy fan is my take away….he claims to love star wars but it’s clear all he cares about is Jedi/Sith story lines that are filled with Easter eggs.
@@MAF83580 SWT is just looking for different things in the show, thats all. I don't agree with his takes about this show in the slightest, but his opinions are his own. Every fan doesn't have to agree on the same things, especially SW fans, there is so much in fighting, it's pretty much part for the course lol.
@@SuperRamos619 I just don’t understand what he expected to see with this show. His breakdowns on this are so half assed….he’s clearly annoyed with the show. He didn’t even mention that Vel turns out to be Mon’s cousin. Kind of a big deal in the overalll scheme of things. He totally glosses over the manner in which Bix was tortured using the screams of murdered children. I mean my gosh that is so intense and shows so much about the Empire. For someone who loves Star Wars it’a just interesting how disinterested he is in a show that is showing so much about the rebellion and the empire……things we have never gotten close to seeing in any other star wars content.
@@MAF83580 the good thing is, there are a lot of other content creators on the platform that dive really deep into the show and talk about a lot more than just a simple synopsis. There's a lot of amazing film work going on, and SWT just doesn't care, or catch. Or even the amazing acting by the entire cast if this show. SWT just dives into the SW specific related stuff.
I honestly think this is the best star wars cinematic series ever released. No Disney stuff, no kid fan service, very serious toned and covering things never covered before with a great touch of realism
Preach on Baby Yoda Preach on. You be right sir. A show about the rise of the rebellion, as it should be without all the Jedi and meddling of overpowered super hero's NO WAY!!!!!! Although I wouldn't mind seeing JarJar and his race being exploited and put in chains as punishment for Phantom Menace. Maybe they can eat Gun Gun stu in one of the episodes.
I definitely agree. It feels like their actually trying to make a real show rather than milk all of the characters. I will say I like the characters in the other shows more but I would take a good story over them anyday
Absolutely loving this show, possibly heading towards overtaking the mandalorian for me. It doesn’t have any jedi, or lightsabers, jet packs, it’s just a man with a heavy sense or mortality Amazing story, characters, amazing seeing the early empire and the formation of the rebellion and it’s funding. Just generally a masterpiece of a shoe
Personally, I prefer when they take their time to develop a plot and don't rush dialog. There is so much richness in it that action junkies don't seem to appreciate. If Cassian got in and out of prison super quick we wouldn't appreciate the severity of his situation, or feel the sense of dread and helplessness he is going through. A hot pocket can be microwaved in 3 minutes. A five star 3 course meal takes a lot more than that. You can't rush art. 8/10 for me.
As much as I love the Mandalorian, you know they would’ve had the imprisonment and the prison break in the same 40-50 minute episode. Which wouldn’t allow the viewers to feel the tension, and generally how terrible the situation is. I love that we have more types of Star Wars projects now.
@@Enigma75614 Because they’ve taken extra time in the prison some other inmates are genuinely likeable characters now, there is still tension for them on whether they make it out or not.
I love when a show is able to keep you interested with little action. Doesn't have to be all lightsabers and floating rocks. After every episode I find myself counting down the days till the next one.
It’s only slow to those who are uninterested in the show. Otherwise, it’s probably the most thrilling Star Wars series yet. It doesn’t feel predictable and the prison scenes are eerie and they keep you on your toes without telling what is going to happen next. EDIT: Palpatine has nothing to do with the prison as in episode 7 (I believe) we clearly heard his orders to put the ISB in control of everything after the Aldhani heist.
I do wonder what your thoughts are on the Kenobi show / boba fett / eps 7-9 because if you enjoy any of those then your opinion for this cannot be trusted
Andor literally tops all of those ten times over so. Kenobi was cheesy and lame. Boba Fett was pointless, the Mandalorian and Grogu sub-plot was the only entertaining part of that show and 7,8,9? More like Mediocre, Bad, Worse.
@@crackonweed Not sure why you'd need to trust his opinion... It's an opinion, not a fact - it doesn't need to be trusted, just stated to think what you will. Anyway, literally all of the things Star Wars related you just mentioned sucked ass. Kenobi was a disaster, boba fett was a super low-budget feeling knockoff of some kids hero team-up thing, and well I don't really need to bring up the actual movies - it's all been said before. Andor though, has been genuinely fantastic because surprise surprise, it actually has competent writing and direction. Edit* because my grammar sucks.
I think the scariest part about the Empire is not Vader or Palpatine but the vast bureaucracy that make this all work. Andor shows this pretty well. The way Cassian got arrested and prosecuted is exactly what you would expect in a regime like that.
The power hierarchy and oppression of the empire is so well demonstrated. The fact that we experience the fear people feel is insane , like you say it just shows how much on another level Vader and Palpatine are.
mining colony in 3rd episode of Kenobi TV show would be a joke, I can guess. Well, this is the same person who introduced us Final scene of Rogue one that inspired authors to make Vader even more intermediating.
No, the pacing is awesome! I love the tension, the room the actors have to actually act and let us feel the scene is what sets this show apart. I give this episode a 9/10
@@repticare101 He literally wants more action lol, like he sounds like a child. Is the show perfect, no but its by far the best content created by D+ in the SW Universe.
This is so true, I always have said SW should be so easy, pick a handful of great actors, and let them act. There is literally limitless territory to explore and every type of conflict exits. To me, the best option is to use the best talent available, and let just great acting fall on the backdrop of SW. This show is not perfect, but its by far the best acting, writing, set design and has the highest level of maturity of any star wars show ever. This is what I wanted out of the Book of Boba Fett, why not make that a dark or 'R' rated SW piece, drives me nuts what a dumpster fire that show was, Kenobi as well. SWT is a child, love a lot of his content but he is not to be taken seriously. He is just doubling down because just as this came out, he was ripping K. Kennedy and D+ rightfully so, saying SW is dead, and now this show is just miles better than anything they have produced and he cant admit he was wrong or is just a 12 yer old who needs Jedi and Sith and ACTIONNNNN or he gets distracted by a passing butterfly.
I appreciate the pacing of Andor. They are telling an important story that has never been shown on screen. The details required for the backstory of the original trilogy are important. Skimming over the details would be a disservice. Andor is a mature Star Wars story, it is not supposed to be explosions and light sabers. The politics and manipulation is what set up the story we love.
@@sweatynerd6761 _Kenobi_ and _Book of Baby Fett_ were horrible. And Theory also rated _Tales of the Jedi_ as a "1000 out of 10" lmao. @@KhukuriGod tales was good. But not out of this world omg amazing. Mind you I grew up with the clone wars. I grew up with the prequels. And the story telling especially towards the end of the clone wars was amazing. But one thing is cartoons and another is life action show. Kenobi and BOBF was pure cameos and trash story telling. Even mando ended up being cameos in season 2. Mando was great season 1. But season 2 just felt like it was dragged on. A live action video game with side missions. Andor ?? Omg man, it’s perfect they way this story is being told. Like I don’t need lightsabers or cameos or stupid corny jokes to actually enjoy this show. It keeps me on my toes, no scene is wasted honestly. You get to know these characters and how the empire is evil. Best shit Disney put out since they acquired Star Wars
A key difference between the characters is Dedra is portrayed (and shown) to be highly competent in her occupation, and is consequently highly assured in that ability. As a result she doesn't need to resort to shouting at any point really, which is never a sign of strength really, more desperation and/or insecurity (especially if it's a first recourse). Dedra is far more calm and calculating, and thus intimidating. It's similar to how Hux was markedly less impressive in his (laughable) rants than the cold composure of Tarkin.
@@QuackDuck17 yeah, I'm getting tired of this shit tbh. I kinda understand the hate towards Reva, but Dedra is just a fantastic character. Anti woke people are getting even worse than the people they criticize so much.
Brilliant show. Amazing writing. Great acting. 10/10. I can see why people would give it a pass, but this is definitely my favourite star wars property in recent memory.
I think Andor is awesome. The old school SW fan wants lightsabre fights and blasters everywhere and I get it. But this is a whole different level and beautifully done.
Y'know when you say old school SW fans, I think back to how Theory states he was a Prequel fan, which featured a lot of political content yet he constantly harps on how slow this show is. As an "old School" fan (I was 3 when episode 4 came out.) I'm loving this show. None of it is dull or boring, occasionally slow sure but even the slow points are tense. And sure it would be interesting to see more Aliens and droids, after all it is a galactic empire full of them, But the thing that makes the show stand out from the others is the fact that it's not trying to sell you a box of toys.
Yeah. Hopefully they get more Tony Gilroys and less Dave Filonis in Star Wars. I want shows like THIS. Good, original writing. Not mindless action and cgi cameos
@@andyb6400 I want more animated stuff from Filoni and I think he has great ideas, but for a directing roll I think people like Gilroy. At least for a show with a serious tone.
I really like this show. It is a Star Wars soap opera but I love this for a change. It’s not slow, it is a different type of storytelling than maybe fans are used to but I really love it! It’s drama.
@ryeshack A crucial element that defines the soap opera is the open-ended serial nature of the narrative, with stories spanning several episodes. One of the defining features that makes a television program a soap opera, according to Albert Moran, is "that form of television that works with a continuous open narrative. Each episode ends with a promise that the storyline is to be continued in another episode (Bowles, 2020).
IF we get any action in this show, which I think we will, after all of this tension building and character development, it’s going to mean so much more than something like the space battle in Rise of Skywalker
There’s been no character development. I don’t know anything about these characters, and I don’t care about these characters. That whole scene where Dedra Meero was interrogating Bix was laughable, because we have no emotional attachment to Bix. This whole show is leading to nothing.
@@senorspook6279 I haven’t been bitching, I’ve been posting valid criticism of the show. I guarantee you can’t tell me one personality trait for every character, because the characters have no personality traits. They all talk in monotone voices and act like NPCs. Within the first episode of Game of Thrones we already know at least two things about Tyrion: he’s clever and he’s witty. We know that Ned Stark will do cruel things if he has to, but that he isn’t a complete psychopath.
@@Enigma75614 I respectfully disagree. This show is showing you how Andor goes from a regular outlaw that is a nuisance to the empire, to someone who hates it vehemently and will eventually indirectly lead to its downfall. Also the empire itself is being treated like the main antagonist of the show, it isn’t one single person. And due to that, the character development of the EMPIRE has been fantastic
This is the best Star Wars series, the last 2 episodes sold it, and sealed the deal for me. Episode 6 was fantastic as well. I do feel that episode 8 is still probably my favorite so far, but this past episode is a close second or just as good. So many moving parts in this show, it's dark, it's mature, and the subtle impact wearing down on people like Andor and others under the thumb of the Empire is festering, and we can see that evident with every passing episode.
Yeah, especially with the prison foreman, who refused to give the number of guards at each time but by the end he cracks, because of desperation. It also in a way shows Luthens ideology and plan is correct, desperate people will crack and form a rebellion, it also shows how dark the empire is and how much power they are getting.
@@PaperMoonShine1 Yes, this is basically Game of Thrones and everything else in SW has been Lord of The Rings. Both are great, but this is big boy Star Wars. The dialogue and several plot lines and character development moving is what drives this show. At first I wanted a bunch of action with the rebels striking at the Empire. But we get that in the movies, the key here is showing how desperate people can become squeezed under tyranny and that slow drip pushing, pushing, pushing until you suffocate is going to drive you to either off yourself like the one inmate in the previous episode, or rebel and fight back. That's what this show is developing, not some fancy pew pew force users.
@@PaperMoonShine1 Yup, he's not getting the significance of the show. All he cares about is watching the legendary characters of Star Wars. But there is an entire galaxy to build on
I don't think why they keep the prisoners there is that deep. The Empire can just rearrange them into the shuffle in the prison and have a limitless slave work force. The people on lvl 2 were only killed once they found out that the person transferred to them was from lvl 4 and was someone who completed their sentence, but was not released, and just moved elsewhere. It feeds the prisoners false hope, that if they keep their heads down and work hard they'll eventually get out when their sentence is up. When in reality, you're there until the Empire has no further use for you. To me that's more terrifying.
I'm confused by that though. If all the shifts have people who have finished their sentence but have been moved to a different level, then they'd all talk about it and everyone would know.
@@DS9TREK possible. But a lot of these guys sentences are already long. Maybe not that many have been “ released “ transferred. And when the mistake did happen (prisoners found out the truth) they fried the whole wing. Very dark stuff
@@DS9TREK another theory I have is maybe they transfer the prisoners to the other facilities we saw on the planet? Then that same thing should be happening in the other facilities. I’m not sure. Weird.
@@Commandobreezy I'm assuming it has to do with how everyone's sentences have been doubled as well as relying on having "healthy"/high suicide rates that probably makes reshuffling prisoners such a rare occurrence it's very likely almost no one will notice.
Even the quiet moments have stakes. Just a feeling of dread that doesn’t let up. Andy Serkis kills it in this role. That look of helplessness he exudes, eventually leading into anger and determination to Andor’s cause. Aside from Jon and Dave, I hope we have more content from Tony Gilroy for Star Wars even past Andor.
The look on Keeno Loy's face when he's trying to maintain calm while realizing something is very, very wrong is a great example of excellent acting. Kudos to casting, everyone plays their roles so remarkably well regardless of how small that role might be. Really enjoying the series. Great breakdown as always.
Syril is starting to really give off unhinged serial killer vibes. He is orderly, super clean, precise, and obsessive. I feel like him confronting Meero was his "bottom of the barrel"/last shot moment, and now that he has lost that, he is going to snap somehow. Potentially even by killing Meero, which would also go along with the theme of the Empire creating its own worst enemies and destroying itself.
Honestly, Syril going crazy would be very suitable for the character after getting canned from his job, then having to take all the BS from his mom, and then going off and ranting when he saw Meero. I could totally see him killing her by the end of the season.
The pacing is perfect and the dialogue is what builds tension. Reviews like this are the reason Disney land us with the absolute crap of Boba and Obi-Wan. This guy needs more lightsabers, skywalkers and explosions in order for something to hold his attention
I feel like your conclusion, hoping that they'll make the show "more fun," indicates to me that you're still waiting for this show to fall back into the formula it's trying so hard to stay away from. I'm not saying you're wrong for wanting it, or that you can't think the show is too dreary, but at some point you have to either check out of the show or accept it for what it is.

Ulaf's actor is amazing. He's so good that everyone just looks to the others to see how they react. Like we would if it was someone right in front of us.

Yep! He's also had basically no positive validation ever in his life (not least from his mother) and so suddenly being recognised and taken to the ISB (even if he is being interrogated) is enough for him to cling on to diedre
Honestly, I was hooked every minute. The episode is absolutely DRIPPING with tension - the nooses are closing and time is running out for Mon (with finances and her husband), Cassian (staying alive and not getting caught by Deedra) and Bix.
Absolutely adoring Cyril, he's pretty much on a roller coaster ride with his emotions and ideals, trying to find his place in the universe. This show just knows how to write characters.
Cyril is one of the most interesting characters in the show for me atm. I love that they totally had him go full on stalker. I have no idea where he's going to fit into the rest of this, and I love it. Hopefully he'll be able to get involved in the finale for this arc next episode.
I appreciate the slow burn. It makes you appreciate the characters. which in turn makes the big moments and pay offs that much better. Its classic GoT. The big moments payed off so well because of the dialogue in the slow moments.
@@ethnikiomada496 some people find the hallmark channel interesting 🤷♂️ I don’t know what to tell you bro. Sucks for you that you don’t think this is interesting 😂😂
Watched Rogue One over the weekend. I honestly believe this series and those involved with the start of the Rebellion are on the same level as those who reaped the glory at the end of the Rebellion. I wonder if any transitioned to the New Republic. This episode was tense from start to finish, Narkina 5 is the Imperial Hotel California. I don’t think it was a mistake about the prisoner from level 4, I think it was deliberate
It's clear that the Empire threatens the death of the whole floor for returning inmates. It's why Melsi says to not look at the number, it doesn't matter. He already knows, but cannot say anything because everyone will fry.
I liked that some of the stuff was slow, since it made it much more menacing, especially the dragged out scene where Andor tries to talk him down, or the dragged out scene in the speeder of Mon Mothma, you could see how terrified and glad she was at once, excellent acting by the way from most of the cast in that regard.
I think you don’t get the power of the dialogues and build-up I could listen to the characters talk for hours, it’s so refreshing when writers KNOW how to write
MAN!!!!! This entire episode is the darkest from start to finish, and The Empire gives no fucks to human life based on what you described from the title and everything we witnessed as a whole. Force, this makes me so anxious for next week as things are really amping up the stakes but I'm patient for episode 10.
I liked the "lot of dialog" and how it consistently connected one scene to the next. If the quality of the writing is so good, they can draw it out even more in my opinion, because it is entertaining and meaningful. For me, the pace was excellent. This is the way to build up tension and create anticipation. 9/10 for this episode and the series so far.
I love how they portray the empire in this. The empire has always been cold and ruthless, but in Andor more than any other piece of Star Wars live action media, they seem vicious. The actors seem instructed to scream at the prisoners, the automated voice of the prison is terrifying, the conditions are inhumane, and it all feels horrifically cruel.
I really hope they give this director more projects in the future. His way of storytelling with Star Wars is very interesting and keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Starting to think SWT needs flashing lights and explosions to be entertained. That's fine as we all enjoy different things but this series is by far the best TV show put out in the Disney era at the very least. Acting, writing, detail and visuals are all on point.
Its took too long for Disney Canon to realize it needs to "slow tf down." one of their main flaws with owning Star Wars is that they put too little thought into their projects and just wanna make a story and push it out there to the fans to eat up. And indeed the (casual) fans eat that shit up. Every time. But for those fans that take a little but more interest and time into actually studying Star Wars material, their lazy writing and conniving usage of EU lore is impossible to miss. Such criticism is hard to keep down in our gullet when we ALL know what we're watching could be better. Very much better. Andor has hit the mark for me personally and a lot of other fans. But not nearly enough of us are in agreeance and enjoyment of this series and I feel the lack of care by the causals will send us back into a spiraling pit of garbage writing (Sequels + Kenobi + BoBF).
I find it hilarious how the empire has andor right in their clutches but have no idea. Imagine the security bureaus faces when they learn andor broke out of one of their prisons without them even knowing he was their.
The pacing is perfect! This is the most well-written star wars content ever! I didn't think I'd like anything better than the Mandalorian, but this show phenomenal. Everything from the story, costumes, cinematography and character building is beyond excellent!!!!
I don't really know what pieces of dialogue were unnecessary tbh man xdd so far if it comes to dialogues/writing it's probably the best show Disney SW have offered to us.
"there was a lot of dialog", [regarding the torture sequence] "this was no different"... geez, it is sad to see that this channel clearly has a bias against the best written Star Wars show we have ever had. I also realized how much of the actual review contains images and throwbacks to the OT and PT, kind of diminishing the episode of Andor. I get that people want to find connections and easter eggs and so, but in this review it feels forced, it feels like trying so hard to find more connections in order to avoid talking of the nuances of the episode. Anyway, have a good day and I really hope someday this channel can truly appreciate what kind of astonishing cinematic and artistic experience Andor is. Cheers!
Well Mr. Theory, I'm more than fine with the pacing of this show because I'm glad we're getting very uncomfortable dialogue in the prison with Andor. Don't want this fantastic show to be rushed
It's funny that the constant complaint about Andor is too much dialog. That was the big complaint my generation had with the Prequel Trilogy. Too much politics and walking and talking. But this is a TV show so it makes sense that thing would be be slower and more focused on subtlety and character growth. Seems like they are doing a great job in that dept. The actual dialog all feels really natural and not has hammy as we have grown accustomed to.
Unnecessary dialogue? Dude just cause you can’t get off to Vader or the Emperor every episode doesn’t mean this show is slow! I love Andor and I hope they continue with this awesome world building
This show is amazing. My wife and I were watching the episode and I said this is not just laser sword fights and space battles. It’s subtle, there is zero fan service. It refreshing-Star Wars for adults.
Cassian building parts for the Death Star only to be killed by it later on adds to George Lucas's whole poetry through circular storytelling. It's amazing and so sad at the same time.
I thought this episode was Brilliant!!! This Show just gets better and better for Me! It isn't slow or drawn out, It's just Brilliantly Written and Brilliantly Acted. 10/10!
Really love how ideas of George Lucas in THX 1138 gave birth SW and now SW gave birth to THX inside of Andor. Really love hove Tony Gilroy respects works of George, in his own, very thorough way. And at the same time portrays Empire as ruthless empty yet very efficient machine, just like Vader. I bet if he'd make Solo TV show - we'd see many influences (and maybe arcs) of Indiana Jones in it.
Yes. The ScreenCrush analysis of this episode noted that George Lucas' THX 1138 has influenced the Andor prison episodes - SWT did not mention this detail at all which I find to be problematic. As Robert Meyer Burnett has stated many franchise fans under 35 have a limited film vocabulary, and hence easily regard mayerial such as Andor as 'borong', 'slow' and even 'not Star Wars'. Many so-called Star Wars fans who have not been keen on Andor have failed to recognise the links that episodes 8-10 of Andor has to Lucas' 1971 film THX 1138. "It's like poetry, it rhymes."
I just finished watching this episode and was shocked when it ended….even though it had zero action, I was so enthralled I barely realized 50 minutes had passed
7 out of 10 wow. This is the best Star Wars from Disney. This episode was so full of suspense even if it had no action at all. I really like this kind of Star Wars. There are strong character moments and world building. When you include the easter egs regarding games and original movies, this show really shines brightly. It's just too bad that most of the people think this is boring. I guess they need their light sabers and force powers:(
This show depicting the how dark the empire makes the other movies that much better for me. I think it’s great context for all the other Star Wars and fuels my passion to see the empire overthrown in the later movies.
i really enjoy Andor, not every show has to be pedal to the metal levels of action, i like the dialogue, the drama and the overall vibe of the show so far
I couldn't disagree more. I don't want faster pacing. It's perfect as it is. The dialog is what makes it so good. This series gets a 10/10 on every episode for me. That being said I want an action filled and amazing season finale.
If he gives this a 7/10 then Kenobi and BOBF get a -10/10. Cause honestly the directing and writing of this show is definitely up there man
Last weeks episode he rated a 1/10..... a truly shocking (to me) rating.
Haha
Amen

Agreed, you summed it up for me.
Yes this ep left me shook especially that Doctor guy who described the torture device with glee, so evil.
There's something about the prison scenes that just feels claustrophobic and frightening.

Theory wouldnt understand. The writing, acting have all been the best that star wars has ever offered. But nope "tOo MuCh DiAlOgUe" for Theory.
But there is an entire galaxy to build on
@@ColoradosBackyard He’s more concerned about tales of the Jedi. Which is 10 minute long animated episodes…
That ending really shows you that things are about to ramp up, such a good ending to that episode. "Never more than 12"
I guarantee they’ll waste half of the next episode with them planning the escape. EDIT: I called it!
12 prison guards, 12 episodes in the season, and 12 likes on your comment. Don't ruin it
@@MarkW1210 Oops I almost ruined it until I read your comment. Took back my like to keep it at 12, Sargent. 🫡
And that’s why Kino in the end tells Andor the amount of guards. The truth has been realized
Amen!!! Gilroy is BRILLIANT. This show is a MASTERPIECE. *Chef's Kiss*
Fantastic choice with Serkis his facial expressions say so much!
The look on Keeno Loy's face when he's trying to maintain calm while realizing something is very, very wrong is a great example of excellent acting. Kudos to casting, everyone plays their roles so remarkably well regardless of how small that role might be. Really enjoying the series. Great breakdown as always.
Romantic tension? She was completely creeped out by him. First time in the series we’ve seen her shaken and a bit scared. He’s a psycho
They're both freaks anyway. She's probably into it.
I agree so much! Syril honestly gives huge incel vibes to me!
lol
I think Theory is a tad aurtisic getting a "Romatic tension" from that scene tbh
No there is tension two evil people with common goals she was shaken at first but she recovered and it's an obvious power couple in the making
Imagine if he kills his mom, first.
Honestly, Syril going crazy would be very suitable for the character after getting canned from his job, then having to take all the BS from his mom, and then going off and ranting when he saw Meero. I could totally see him killing her by the end of the season.
When he confronted her I literally said out loud: "oh he has some form of autism. That makes sense"
Completely agree with you
Yep. He is stalking an ISB agent and still manages to seem like the bigger creep.
Love seeing Andy Serkis in the flesh. I’m really pulling for him to not die. 😄
If he dies we need to riot.
That ending gave me chills. Ep.10 is gonna be a banger
The stuff in the prison has been pretty compelling imo. One of my favorite parts of the series so far
Just want to shout out again the insane quality of the actors in this show, probably the best in any Star Wars project. I know some of the scenes/dialog might seem unnecessary but the show makes it so worth it for having to wait. I’m sure the ending of this season is going to be chaos and non stop high stakes tension I can’t wait!
This show slaps insanely hard
Ulaf's actor is amazing. He's so good that everyone just looks to the others to see how they react. Like we would if it was someone right in front of us.
He has been in a ton of movies and series, like The Fifth Element and Guardians of the Galaxy 2.
When they put this device on Bix and the door closes it is exactly the same way as it did in a new hope with leias interrogation
I realized how close Luthen was to getting caught. The empire was following box and if she contacted luthen it would fall apart. Good thing his assistant slapped him up a bit and told him he is getting too reckless
Palpatine is very cruel. Makes him my favorite villian of all time
And he is a meme lord
The joker literally exists
@@DrewShiiesty He said said palpatine is his favorite villain, this doesn't mean he ignores the existence of the joker or said joker wasn't the greatest villain of all time.
@@realobiwan A meme lord?
but why does he have to keep the ds secret? doesnt he control the senate and the empire? what could they even do?
Personally I feel they are doing a better job building up the prison break than they did the vault heist, but I very much enjoyed the heist either way
Wonder if they'll use a rodeo as a cover story like in Stir Crazy
Syril is obsessed with revenge against Cassian, and with proving his worth as an investigator. That's why he pleads with Diedre--he sees her as the only open door he has
Yes 👍
And he wants to get it on with her lol
Yep! He's also had basically no positive validation ever in his life (not least from his mother) and so suddenly being recognised and taken to the ISB (even if he is being interrogated) is enough for him to cling on to diedre
my only issue is that i feel like they could have done a better job in explaining his obsession with cassian. Like it feels kinda strange
@@kaimckeown3603 It's very Les Miserables. Syril=Javert, Cassian=Jean Valjean.
Of course you do. Cyril simps hard for dedra and eats his cereal while getting pestered by his mum like a good little beta male. LMAO 🤣
My vote is he kills Meera when he goes full simp and she rejects him.
@@DarkRaven40011 bro I could see that totally happening. Either that or she comes around after he does something crazy in the name of the empire
Cyril is one of the most interesting characters in the show for me atm. I love that they totally had him go full on stalker. I have no idea where he's going to fit into the rest of this, and I love it. Hopefully he'll be able to get involved in the finale for this arc next episode.
What I like about him is just how generic the guy is. I mean he feels almost out of place.
I appreciate the slow burn. It makes you appreciate the characters. which in turn makes the big moments and pay offs that much better. Its classic GoT. The big moments payed off so well because of the dialogue in the slow moments.
I’m so glad we are finally getting well written material from this franchise. It has been sorely missed…
You’re gonna sit there and tell me syril simping for dedra is good writing?? Some of the writing is sooooo cringe
Syril eating cereal for 4 episodes straight???
@@AHomelessDorito his behavior is supposed to be cringy
@@AHomelessDorito I mean it’s apart of his characterization and moves the plot forward it didn’t stick out as “cringe” to me but ok go ahead 🤷♂️
@@ethnikiomada496 some people find the hallmark channel interesting 🤷♂️ I don’t know what to tell you bro. Sucks for you that you don’t think this is interesting 😂😂
This is my take: Cyril's mom is not alive and hasn't been for awhile. He is hallucinating as he spirals out of control.
That would be wild. It does feel a bit Norman Bates to me.
You got some dark thoughts my friend
Or she’s part of the rebellion
That would be fucking sick
@@Ian-ky5hf that'd be sad af bruh.
Honestly Im really loving this show. I think it’s the most genuinely interesting and intriguing show.
The reason the ending is so great is because of the way they structured this show which is why I love this show
Watched Rogue One over the weekend.
Watched rouge one yesterday again too it’s very good
It's clear that the Empire threatens the death of the whole floor for returning inmates. It's why Melsi says to not look at the number, it doesn't matter. He already knows, but cannot say anything because everyone will fry.
A show with very little action that still manages to leave you on edge of your seat every single episode. Incredibly show so far.
Why can’t we just have a constant stream of Star Wars content like this???? Just soooooo good!
I think you don’t get the power of the dialogues and build-up
I could listen to the characters talk for hours, it’s so refreshing when writers KNOW how to write
This is - in my own personal opinion - the best written and best acted Star Wars content made so far. Which is high praise and I hope they keep it up!
MAN!!!!! This entire episode is the darkest from start to finish, and The Empire gives no fucks to human life based on what you described from the title and everything we witnessed as a whole.
Force, this makes me so anxious for next week as things are really amping up the stakes but I'm patient for episode 10.
10/10 for me, Andor is such a fantastic show, really shows the horror of the Empire. I love all the different viewpoints they give.
Holocaust vibes. Shows how evil the empire was. Decent episode!
The empire is amazing...do it properly yourself dont depend on others...
@@darthgorthaur258 they literally depend on everyone lol
Vibing out am I right
Decent???? This episode was amazing
No way you just said holocaust vibrs
For a series that I thought would be kinda whack, is turning out to be a lot more of a banger than I thought it would. Looking forward to the next ep!
A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one!
SWT :
"Staaaahp taaaahking!
I jus wan muh spathe majik n lithesabas!"
Starting to think SWT needs flashing lights and explosions to be entertained. That's fine as we all enjoy different things but this series is by far the best TV show put out in the Disney era at the very least. Acting, writing, detail and visuals are all on point.
I Feel alone when saying this: This is one of the best Star Wars series i have seen.
How would you feel alone about that? Read the comment section 😉
i kinda dig the slow burn. i get there is little action. but that is what makes Andor special to me. Its not for kids.
What i love about Andor is they have real development of a character.
This episode was so incredibly well written. I was honestly so captired in all of it! 🤯
Andor is hands down the best Star Wars content Disney has produced.
I don't really know what pieces of dialogue were unnecessary tbh man xdd so far if it comes to dialogues/writing it's probably the best show Disney SW have offered to us.
He just wanys to see anakin and palpatine, otherrwise he will hate
Cheers!
He just wants this to be about anakin, darth vader and palpatine, if he doesnt get that he will hate
I love how andor humanizes the empire but also shows how truly evil they are
Really hope the Acolyte is like this show, showing how the sith took over the galaxy in the shadows.
Well Mr. Theory, I'm more than fine with the pacing of this show because I'm glad we're getting very uncomfortable dialogue in the prison with Andor. Don't want this fantastic show to be rushed
This is unlike any of the Star Wars Disney series, I binged it all tonight. Obsessed, the cast, the writing.
I really want a scene where Palpatine makes a surprise visit to the senate to shut down Mothma
10/10!
Perfect timing. I just finished the episode and I get a notification for your video. Great video as always!
I just finished watching this episode and was shocked when it ended….even though it had zero action, I was so enthralled I barely realized 50 minutes had passed
This show is incredible. Please ignore SW Theory's opinions for this show cause everyone seems to love it except for him lol
I cannot express enough how much I absolutely love this show.
I guess they need their light sabers and force powers:(
The momentary blackout was all of floor 2 being electrocuted to death.
