    Well, that's the beauty of the cloning software we used as well as a bunch of clone utilities on the market actually - the software will allow you to specify the partition size on the target, regardless of the source partition size, so long as the data isn't actually larger than the capacity of the target drive obviously. In other words, it should auto-size the partition down to the target drive and I believe I explained that quickly in the video. It's hard to get it all in under 10 mins!

    Hi good video but you forgot to say that before replacing the hard drive to remove the battery before replacing the hard drive

  • @nHeroGo

    This is a very good instructional video. Thanks. But something tells me that it is a good idea to remove the battery from the laptop whenever poking around with components.

    "2009 the year of ssd" it was only that year because in 2014 we still use hard drives in over 70% of computers and laptops

      ***** ik im very late but SSD is kinda expensive hence the one u linked is 500GB and $258.57 when i can get a 1TB hard drive for $60 which is double that space. with 240 dollars i can get 4TB's why spend 250 on 500GB's? thats just how i look at it even tho im sure there are some cheaper ssd's out there still...its just not worth it to me

      SSD for system files + HDD for storage. This is the ideal setup. I was tired of waiting my hard drive spin. An SSD made real difference. But I still have terabytes of data on my external HDDs.

    • @MrKJH4
      @MrKJH4 10 лет назад

      reha candan yeah ive done some looking around since then i still find the price a little extreme but they are good devices for what they do if the price of them went down a little then the'll be perfect

    • @rehacandan2022
      @rehacandan2022 10 лет назад +1

      I believe one of the reasons behind the higher prices is the perception that SSD's are "cutting edge". Yeah, they are the latest and greatest technology indeed, but I suspect manufacturers may be taking advantage of this to keep prices higher.

    • @MrKJH4
      @MrKJH4 10 лет назад +1

      reha candan well i think they really should just charge a little less im sure more people will buy them ik i would if a 500 gig ssd went down to like 100 or 150. 250 is just too much for me

  • @tylerbradshaw7957

    Could you clone your disk to an external hard drive (via USB), put in the new SSD drive, boot from the external USB drive, and then clone the external drive to the newly installed SSD? Essentially, this would bypass the need for a USB-to-SATA converter.

  • @DonnyThailand
    @DonnyThailand 15 лет назад

    Everything is explain so clearly. Thank you.
    But I see one problem.
    For the cloning process, what if the capacity of the source hard drive is bigger (as it should always be) than the target drive's? (unlike in this video)
    The data in our laptop could be less than e.g. 80GB, but most HDD size these days are well over 200GB. How could we clone them??
    Thank you in advance.

  • @Hothardware
    @Hothardware  15 лет назад

    Yes, definitely a good idea! We didn't do that but I would recommend folks do that for sure.

    Tony, the battery is +12, V.D.C. and the charger/power supply is +18 V.D.C.
    Not a Shock Hazard. ? why would you think otherwise? Desktop machines have 120 V.A.C. or 240 V.A.C depending on what country strait to the box but again the internal voltage is +5,-5,+12,-12 V.D.C.too low to hurt you. I agree it is a good idea to remove power, but this is to save the machine from damage not keep you from being shocked by internal wiring. peace 2u

    Two questions:
    1. Will this be perfect for my Toshiba Satellite Series laptop?
    2. Will an SSD really save me a lot of battery time?

    • @Hothardware
      @Hothardware  8 лет назад +1

      +Stephen Phillips SSDs generally consume less power but I would be surprised if it helped battery life that much. However, an SSD will add a level of speed and responsiveness to your laptop that you'll find quite noticeable. If it's a standard 2.5" HDD in there, any quality SATA SSD will do the trick.

    did you put an operating system *linux , Windows, etc. on the drive or clone old drives contents to the new one? that would be a big reason. also did you remove the old drive or (add the new drive. requires bios setting attention).
    P.s. I know this is 7 month old Question. added answer for information purposes. Peace 2u
