Yui was the essence of innocence, truly the Baby in Babymetal. I only discovered them three years ago, but after watching all the SG material and early Babymetal stuff, I viewed Yui as an innocent, perhaps fragile enigma. She was turning into a beautiful young woman last we saw of her.

Great reaction, and interesting thoughts you have about the song! Thank you very much that you tried the MoiMoi version! This one shouldn´t be blocked. Yeah, cuteness overload 🤣 We got this insane amount of kawaii with Yui and Moa together, only. The song is written for girls of the age Yui and Moa had at this (or earlier) time, no doubt. Interestingly, the mood of the music, which is Pop at its core, is quite dark. It matches so well with the very heavy instrumentation, but the lyrics and the performance of MoiMoi are bright fun, IMHO. A very typical BABYMETAL song 😉 Yui and Moa as a duo were often called "MoiMoi", like they were twins, a thing that originated in Sakura Gakuin, I believe (The One might correct me, if I´m wrong).
Indeed, Yui might be gone, but she´s not forgotten. IMHO, she is/was the most kawaii metal person on planet Earth when she performed, and she left a huge mark on BABYMETAL. If somebody wants to know what BABYMETAL is all about, there´s no way around Yui.

I think I'd agree with that, and I think most would agree with that. That is partly why they always say that Yui steals everybody's souls with her look. Moa brought the smiles, and happiness. Su brought voice and death-glares. Yui brought the Kawaii factor. It's a damn shame she had to leave, but that's life. Hopefully she's happy and doing better where/whatever she's doing now.

When su metal sings at the same concert rondo of nightmare she stands at the centre and it rises about 2 meters into the air. She dances on this platform and sings, and you can see it moves slightly. Note that the lights are on her, so she will see very little beyond the platform making it even more disconcerting. That is well impressive.

with black Babymetal being as amazing as they were back in the early days, telling Yui and Moa apart from was neigh impossible. Until you see the way they perform, Yui was always left and Moa right but Yui was always the best dancer and kept up with timing. While I found that Moa was more outgoing and not as shy, one thing that the three girls did during the early days when they didn't know how to answer a question, they would say "only the Fox God knows" that always would make me laugh

You should have watch the kamishibai or narrated intro on this.
You can also enjoy the special Christmas live version at Legend 1997 with the girls wearing sweaty hoodies.
I guess the bones hoodies were just to match up with the sister bones.
And you're right about the rotating platform, it's not easy to dance on it losing your point of reference everytime.
Totally agree with your thoughts about the making of these lyrics, it's really genius.
Keep enjoying BM songs and see you next time.🦊🤘🔥

Great reaction again. You already have all the explanations about the skeletons, Babybones, SisterBones etc - the skeleton hoodies were the traditional costume for this song.
It seems the "I will marry you Dad" is a thing everywhere in the world said, as by your niece, in all innocence by young children who don't know how marriage works and who love their [insert older relative as appropriate] .... except maybe the USA. I think I've only seen American reactors and commenters completely misunderstand.
There was a time when BABYMETAL fans would print bank notes in the currency of the country where they were playing, but with the faces of the girls (and of the Kami Band I think). They would hand wads out to fans in the queues before the concert and at just the right moment during this song the notes would be fired and thrown into the air like confetti.💸💸💸

Every performance has its own appeal and I have no favorites. Moa performed it on her own for a reason and the versions with Yui are how the song was intended to be performed originally. The song was pretty much retired after closing Metal Resistance Episode III in 2015 and it was only performed at the Tokyo Dome Black Night show in 2016 (still with Yui) and then twice at the 10 BABYMETAL Budokan in 2021 (the one you watched previously). And now it's probably gone forever.

As mentioned in another reply, the Sisterbones (who danced for Black Babymetal) is a different crew from the Babybones (who were miming a band). The latter are still around in more recent fancams, usually deployed nowadays as "hype men" to work the crowds outside the venue (pre-show) as well inside (at the standing pens). Koba also donned such a masked skeleton costume to promote his book 鋼鉄っぽいのが好き -人生9割メタルで解決- ("I Like Steel-like Stuff: 90% Of My Life Is Solved With Metal") during the pandemic. Fits thematically with the BM lore, I guess.
The following is what he said about the goofy concept (obviously they couldn't afford a regular live band just for occasional small live showcases at that time too):
Q : What made you come up with an air-band idea at all?
Koba : I kept thinking that we needed a feel of the band because our theme was Metal. So we set up useless twin bass drums and piled up never-roaring Marshall units (laugh). To be hang on in details at the very least. We did our best for the feel of "We do it live in our heart."
Q : A member of the air-band even did it in sync, to be surprised (laugh).
Koba : They do tons of practices so hard (laugh). The air band (Mr. Bones) listens to Babymetal so deeply too. Every member love Babymetal. They would work on their choreography by themselves, so as to ensure everyone was fully in sync. I gave minimum suggestions like "we do the breakdown here, so you'll bend down lower to show your attack! attack!" like that (laugh). We call it "The crab" indeed (laugh). We had a talk like "The crab squat! Now!" I just gave some simple orders like "Let's decide whether two counts or four counts here," and I say "Enjoy yourselves as for the rest!"
The 'Air Band' (mime band) concept isn't unique or disparaged either. In fact, there's a popular visual kei band called Golden Bomber ゴールデンボンバー (nicknamed 金爆 "Kinbaku") which comprises a main vocalist cum songwriter/multi-instrumentalist, plus 3 sidekicks who would don band gear but never play them onstage. They were popular enough to perform 4 consecutive years at the prestigious Kohaku Uta Gassen in the 2010s (BM would be invited only once during their career), yet wacky & hilarious enough to mock their feat ever since (titling one album "We Realize We Couldn't Appear On Kouhaku", another live show "They Won't Let Me Appear On Kohaku Anymore", & the frontman tweeting every year ahead of the lineup announcement that they have been "eliminated from consideration").

great reaction Johnny-Metal, the full context of this song is set up in the Lore of Legend 1997 and 1999, when the Power Idols tried to stop the Metal Resistance before it could break out of Japan, Yui and Moa were lured away from Su and turned into dark characters (Black BABYMETAL)

The Budokan was a popular venue for Japanese professional wrestling for a time. The first pop group to ever play Nippon Budokan Hall in Tokyo was The Beatles in 1966, a concert that caused quite a scandal because of the auditoriums' semisacred status as Japan's premier martial-arts venue.

Nice reaction. Kawaii overload indeed. Yui is loved and missed. The connection between them is more than just band mates. Moa was there for Yui when her family had health issues, and she had to go to the hospital every day but was too young to be let in to see them. She had to wait but while she did Moa would visit and the two of them did their audition tape for Amuse! Inc. together at the hospital. Amuse! Inc is the talent agency that put together Sakura Gakuin. It was from there that Babymetal was formed. And history was made. The Foxhole is deep and full of surprises.

Fun reaction and yes. The song is absolutely awesome!
So, in my (VERY limited) understanding, the marrying your dad line comes from the idea that the Father should be the prototype husband as an example for their kids? Which seems to make sense in the context of the song for sure since it's about a girl trying anything to kiss up to her Father to get that cash money 😂

As you mention the moving stage, at 3:49 you can see the railings at the walkways around the center stage.
The outer ones were not present the day before and Yui fell off a walkway while interacting with the crowd during Headbanger missing the second half of the song.
And Moa slipped and fell when they were running around at the beginning of Ijime, Dame, Zettai and had to fight to perform this last song with visible pain.
The middle part of the stage could also be raised, mostly for Su to stand up there alone but during Uki Uki Midnight all three were jumping around up there...

@@JohnnyReacts1 Not at all, don´t worry... at Budokan 2014 Yui and Moa were fully live😉 And the Kami Band finally became an integral part of BABYMETAL.
"Legend 1997" wasn´t the first time the Kami Band played life, their first appearance was at "Legend I", not quite a year before "Legend 1997". The roster differed, tho. First Kami Band ever consisted of SHIN (drums), RYO (bass), Leda Cygnus (guitar, you already listened to him several times, he was the guitarist performing with BABYMETAL the most, and he is the only Kami Band member with official song credits) and SHIREN (guitar).
The "Budokan 2014 Black Night" performance is just as kawaii as the "Legend 1997" version, although the "Legend 1997" had a "red Santa" outfit instead of the skeleton hoodies (ok, THAT was a bit more kawaii! 🤣)

The skeleton thing. In the early days before they could afford a real band they had some guys dress in the full skeleton costumes and pretend to play. They were called “Babybones”. The girls you see dancing with them here are called “Sisterbones”.
The later performance you reacted to by Moa alone had some girls dance with her in costumes similar to the ones Yui and Moa are wearing here almost as if Moa was singing to her younger self and her erstwhile friend. Both performances were at Budokan .
You mentioned health & safety & sadly later poor Yui fell off stage during Headbanger and missed the end of the song ….she was back for the following song I,D,Z. …the next night there were safety rails everywhere.
Moa also tripped and hurt her leg during I.D,Z but continued on like a trooper but you can see she’d hurt herself.
When they returned to Budokan for those 10 shows in 2021 Moa was nearly hit by a flame pot (you can see her and Su’s surprised faces when it goes off just a little too close to Moa).
Anyway. Great reaction, this it’s my favourite black BABYMETAL song . If you listen carefully you can hear Su sing backing (the bits about black BABYMETAL ). 👍👍

3:21 well, the skeletons where in the first video they released: Doki Doki Morning, so yes, that has always been part of Babymetal, or at least early days.
7:33 yeah, these kids are crazy, they have such a passion to perform live, they most train like crazy (and they had school as well, not western school, but Japanese school).
When Babymetal performed in 2016 at Wembley Arena, they had a stage build in Japan first to figure out how they wanted the stage to be and for all the practicing and had an exactly replica build in the UK (cheaper and less time consuming than shipping).
I'm incredibly curious what the origin story of this song is, we don't get to hear about all those things when it comes to Babymetal, a lot of stuff happens behind the scenes, but Kobametal initiated, especially during that time, made songs inspired by what the girls do and did, how they act, etc. But my guess is this could be from personal experience of Kobametal, because he has kids, including daughters, the same age as Babymetal. Uki Uki Midnight is a song about the touring life of Babymetal, the part after the show when they are back in their rooms before bed, having a snacks party.

The skeleton guys are called Babybones. They were actors pretending to be musicians back in the early days when Babymetal couldn't afford to have a live band. They were used intermittently between April 2012 and Feb 2014 alongside the Kami Band, before they were retired and the Kami Band fully took over. The dancers are called Sisterbones; they only appeared a few times at big shows in Japan, with Budokan 2014 being their last appearance.
