The story of the former CEO threatening the new CEO's life over raising the price of the best hot dogs will always stand out to me as the best and most gangster story in the history of retail.
Ngl the $1.50 hot dog and soda come in clutch when you’re broke. When I go to Costco here in Mexico I always leave with a $30 peso hot dog and soda and I’m set for dinner. I’m glad they won’t ever raise the price 👍🏼
So you spend 1.5$ on ONE meal and think you’re saving? i understand why you’re broke since you can buy a pack of 10 hotdogs for 1.5$ at the grocery store
I burst out laughing so loud at this part that my boyfriend heard me all the way downstairs, in the garage, over the noise of his compressor- and came to check on me 😂
@@zero_gaminghcr2146 fr dude, like the only way I could see it happening is in California and they each order the double quarter pounder with bacon and large combo
What did you just order the entire menu..? Our family of three never goes above like $30 at McDonald’s. We don’t even spend that much at actual restaurants.
If you sell, ready to eat items, such as hotdogs or rotisserie chicken, at a deep discount, you eventually have people shopping while hungry. The hunger feeling makes people purchase more! It's no accident that they put the hotdog stand right after the checkout lane!
The Executive Membership is worth it for small business owners. I got one for my small business of vending machines and I have been able to keep the machines stocked up and I get a great deal on other things as well.
@@loubiethecat9771 You're right. I never checked that out. It's just that even though I do much of my shopping at Costco and spend anywhere between $200 to $400 on any one grocery trip I still don't get up to buying $3000 worth of stuff a year, although one time I did and they asked me if I wanted to upgrade my card
For those who dont know, the Costco hotdog combo is something called a loss leader. This is a business concept where a company creates a product with an impossibly low price on purpose. This products purpose is to lose the company money, but generate buzz and keep their new and returning customers coming back. Other examples of a loss leader include McDonald's $1 drinks or the dollar menus at various fast food restaurants.
I hate that they claim it loses money, it's an expense... if money is being made elswhere then it's not technically losing money. But yes, no one bats an eye at McDonald's for doing this but when anyone else does it it is gawked at... makes no sense lol
Sorry, but charging $1.00 for a soda dors NOT qualify for a loss leader. For fountain sodas, the syrup product makes up a very small percentage of the cost, add a large amount of ice and at $1.00, they're still making a profit. Movie theaters always made their profit on sodas and food.
Bros a knock off Henry Belcsster in every way. The voices, animations, how he’s holding that little mic thingy, the way he talks, how he pulls up the green screen, etc.
What about all those people with the executive gold cards? The people who spend so much money at Costco they get their membership back and then some at the end of the year
Well those people and Costco both benefit. The customers get lower prices but Costco also has the makeup and is still making money. His 80% number from memberships does not make sense if you look at the average spending of members
Omg, you're so right never seen a closed waffle house plus the United States checks the level of threats in the area depending on if the waffle house is closed or not during storms and bad situations 😂
Businesses like Sam's Club and Costco are clever in a sense because they've guaranteed themselves a steady stream money due to their memberships even if the memberships are only used to buy things like gas or food at the food court which I know some people do
Well then that would actually lose them a crap ton of money as they lose money on food it’s only there to draw people in so they buy things which actually makes them the money. Memberships make money but not as much as sales do the 80% number he gave has no basis
I worked for Costco for 7 years. Your facts are correct. It's why they heavily promote their executive membership program. Memberships are straight profit to them. They make $2 for $100 of merchandise sold.
They are in UK for a while now. I love shopping there. Undercuts all the other big supermarkets. I mean we’re heading for 5-7 GBP for a carton of brand orange juice here. It’s super busy if you go on the weekends but with all the wide aisles you don’t even notice. Plus I love that they have wider parking spaces, especially a luxury in London (probably not an issue in the US 😋). The only exception to shop there is that you can only get a membership if you work in a certain field (healthcare, civil service, education, etc…). Not sure if it’s the same in the US 🤔
