@levoldunom it's an internet-based community lore, with a wiki dedicated to make monsters and mystical/cursed/ethereal objects. It stands for Secure, Contain, Protect. Very interesting. It started out as a fake post about an SCP (one of the entities) called SCP-173. Then someone made a game about it (SCP: Containment Breach). And once that hit, it went through the internet quickly and everyone was making up their own unique monsters, entities, and objects. You should check it out if that's your thing.
The pop music fans don't like Sleep Token when they play super heavy tracks like Vore The Metal "purists" dont like when Sleep Token sound too pop on songs like "Fall for me." Or DYWTYLM. Sleep Token fans know that its ALL incredible music.
The key is not being a purist of any genre. So much more fun that way. I love DYWTYLM, Mine, and especially Fall For Me. But I love the angst in Chokehold and The Summoning. Something to suit every mood.

This is SUCH a great video. Unrequited love is always a killer and this tells such a great story about how hard it can be to get over someone who doesn't feel the same way. I realised something new watching it today: I kept thinking how bad the main character in the video is with a sword. I just assumed the actor didn't know what he was doing. Then it hit me - in the story of the video, the main character is deliberately only swinging half-heartedly. He doesn't really want to kill his feelings for this girl. There's still hope. This stuff cuts deep.
You know the first time he tied a ribbon to the tree and went to cut them all down, he did so with passion and fury. But after having tied dozens upon dozens of ribbons, after having fallen on his own sword countless times, he realizes the futility. He still tries, knowing its hopeless, but perhaps relishing the sting of his own sword at the end of it all.

The beautiful part of this verse is the follow up chorus. “Cause I’m still full of the love you want” means: regardless of “swallowed keys” there will always be a virtue of accepting one for their flaws or misdoings. The entire song is an ode to someone that’s trying over and over again without getting success. It’s the beauty of perseverance, always try when the outcomes aren’t always in your favor.

They are so hard to explain to someone when you try to get anyone into them but that’s what I love about their music it’s art and good art makes you feel something whether it be through reliving an experience or reflecting on past successes or mistakes
Can I just mention that this music video used femininity and natural beauty with female movement WITHOUT sexualizing the whole damn thing. That is as pure as loving from the next room over and reaching out in faith alone. Wow.
Oh, I just realized, it feels like he's traveling through blood vessels and veins, the red leaves and petals are blood. It's like he's fighting off an infection, the feelings he has for this girl that have taken up residence in his heart. Or like an immunity problem, where the white blood cells attach the host. They turn on him, and he loses again. Every ribbon tied to a branch of veins is a loss, a piece of body he failed to regain from being "lovesick". A theme that was in Alkaline as well, a loss of control and autonomy, that ones choices are affected by how they feel about another and how their perspective of you changes what decisions you make. And then with Fall for Me, "I forgot what I am", it's hard to remember when the people you love aren't there to remind you and put the pieces back together, and when you feel so shaped by them by your own choice.
The only band I know that made the vulnerable sad male sounding vocals not come off as cringy or edgy. It helps that the vocalist puts 100% both in studio and live performances
also boosting ST is Vessel's approach to his intense creativity -- especially when you know that 2 eps and 3 albums later, his processing of loss, heartbreak, toxicity, pain, and unrequited love is very real, formidable, and true down to his bones.

Everytime I hear Vessel's voice I cry. It brings out all these emotions in me. I'm going through cancer treatment and when I'm getting chemotherapy I listen to Sleep Token. It helps me.

My 16 yo cat died today, after battling through a tumor, hyperthyroidism, and old age. The news of her slowly reaching to Sleep came out as this song did. She deserved the rest after so much pain, but she was loved throughout the entire process. Once more Sleep Token reaches out to my soul when I need it the most. Worship.

I came to this song when someone I was really close to killed themself and here I am back again after my dog just died. I can relate. I'm glad to hear your girl was loved and made it to a good age but I'm sorry you lost her.
I went through the same thing in 2021 my friend. It was slow and we fought so hard but the illnesses were cascading and nothing to be done. I realized that a few days into having to hold up an IV bag to intrevenously hydrate him because he was losing so much water and nutrients through his stomach issues. He was 14, and I had him since about 2 months old. He deserved the rest and my only regret was holding on too long and not giving it to him sooner.
This is one of those rare songs that midway through the first time hearing it, I thought, “Oh, this is going to be a PROBLEM.” Just a brilliant song. Every time I listen to it I find something new to appreciate.

Despite all the effort to imply a kind of edge and darkness the singular focus on writing songs that allude to some great romance and tragedy in a very obtuse way that flatters a certain king of listener. I can't help but think the whole project is, on some level, just an incredibly high-effort method of getting laid.

I've always seen the lore of this band, worshiping "Sleep" and spreading their message, as a metaphor in itself. In order to live the dream you first have to be asleep. So "Sleep" offers the promise of the dream to vessel. So every song has almost a triple meaning. The message on the surface that sounds like it's about a relationship, The one slightly underneath about the lore of sleep token, and then the real message behind everything about chasing the dream.
That’s an interesting take. I was kind of thinking about the metaphor of worshiping the Sleep deity too. I noticed throughout a lot of these songs he’s speaking from a very heartbroken, weakened and depressed state. I can’t speak for everyone who suffers from depression or heartbreak but I know that whenever I’m depressed or I got my heart broken, the first thing I wish I could do is just go to sleep. Perhaps the metaphor of worshiping sleep in a cult-like manor as a deity is his way of praying for respite from his pain.
One of the creepier aspects of creating any kind of art is losing yourself in it, even if just a tiny bit. When I look back on the pieces of a big project or the finish work, it is unreal. It didn't come from the waking mind; given enough time, it is alive to you. Far too much of what ST does reflects what art does to you. And in the end, it's a whisper in your ear telling you to close your eyes and step into that place, perhaps to never return. And then you wake up.
It might be a completely wonky interpretation of the song, but with Vessel being a "vessel" for Sleep's message, when I hear the song, I pictured it like Sleep is the one singing through Vessel but also TO Vessel, if that makes any sense? Like, Sleep and mortal beings/vessels exist on planes a tiny step apart ("you lie an inch apart on your own continuum"), Sleep chiding Vessel or followers to maybe not speak ill of themselves ("keep the freakshow talk to a careful minimum), kind of some back-and-forth almost like maybe Vessel doubting or hiding aspects of himself from Sleep in some ways, and Sleep doing the same. Also "too many swallowed keys will make you bleed internally" could be literally, or more like musical keys? Holding down emotions/songs/worship and the like. And in general in the song a message of Sleep promising love that maybe Vessel(s) and their followers have never known or been able to find/keep on Earth, but Vessel's devotion to Sleep also showing through the same parts of the chorus, that he's still full of love for Sleep? I dunno, articulating how I hear it like this is hard, ahaha, but regardless, love love LOVE this song and band so much ❤

After over two years this song still doesn’t fail to touch the deepest part of my heart. One thing I find especially worth noticing are the white ribbons at the beginning and the end of the video, which are tied to tree branches. The video has many references to Japanese culture (the Katana or the makeup of the dancers, for example). When you visit a shrine in Japan, you can get so called „omikuji“ which are basically long, white, rectangle pieces of paper, on which one’s fortune is written. You can also see many of these paper stripes bound to tree branches on the shrine area and it is believed, that by tying your fortune stripe to a tree branch, it means that you ask the life force of the tree to help you make your wish come true. It is also a common practice to tie omikuji with bad luck to the tree in hope to avert your bad fortune. When I saw the video for the first time, the white ribbons immediately reminded me of the japanese omikuji, because they look so similar. So maybe the ribbons represent the foretelling of a bad fortune in terms of overcoming a one-sided love. And even though the main character gets killed by one of the dancers every time he tries to literally kill his feelings for this person, he still tries to change his destiny by binding the ribbon of one of the dancers to a tree branch after he wakes up. Or maybe I am over-interpreting things, but if I know one thing about Sleep Token, then it’s that symbolism plays an essential role both in their lyrics and their videos.
According to the lore, Sleep offered Vessel glory and power (something like that) in exchange for following Him and spreading His message; this video looks like a trial of sorts-- the power used is the same as the one seen in Alkaline, and it looks like this video comes beforehand. Some of the movements of the dancers are also quite similar to whatever creature it was in Alkaline as well. Didn't miss the ribbons on what seems to be the lead dancer's wrists, and how many of the same ribbons there are in that starting cave. I can only assume Vessel eventually figured out whatever test it is considering Alkaline. Thr lyrics express a lot of frustration and desperation, cycling through the same things over and over, perhaps in a slightly different approach, coming very close, but not quite close enough. It's pretty obvious Vessel has been through this trial-- and failed-- several times. But Vessel still wakes up at the end, trying again, as it seems, on faith alone. Taken in the context of Sleep and Vessel's relationship, the lyrics seem to make more sense. It's beautiful, though. Worship.
I personally think that this video has nothing to do with Alkaline... I think that this red place is depicted as Vessel's heart or veine. All the white bandes are his try to heal from the past relationship that he got. He is still exploring his feelings. But the dancers depict his old love and that she is still in his heart and makes alot of agitation. Thats why their dancing performance is so hectic. Everytime he tries to battle his thoughts about her he loses. Because he is still "Full Of The Love She Wants". Worship.

And when i watched it the first time it gave me an impressive feeling of how this "relationship" or "lost love" still has enough power over Vessel to bring him to his knees. I saw his sword as a literal way of trying to cut the strings still attached to that person/the past? But each time he tried to cut himself loose, the grip and power of that person would hold him captive, making him only hurt himself more - so the white ribbons are tokens to every time he tried to free himself and that despite the powers he obviously holds (as seen in Alkaline), love - or the loss of it - is stronger than all that makes him powerful. Which would make for an impressive metaphor.

I just need say. As an artist myself and a full time professional in the music industry, much of the music I hear gets lost by the wayside. Nothing personal just the result of continual overexposure. However, when I was shown the Sundowning album last February I sat in awe as the album came to an end. It was the first time in many years that a band touched my soul. A Cathartic experience to say the least. You all deserve the highest praise and support. Cheers to you Sleep Token for being a beautifully ominous soundscape that has given me and so many others inspiration and drive to create moving art.

I have been on anti depressants for years, it’s hard for me to really feel feelings as deeply as I used to. I swear Sleep Token has tapped into something inside of me and has helped me cry and feel. This is going to be my jam for the next week straight, nothing bad or boring about that, just doesn't have a dark feeling to it. Sundowning was like that too, it wasn't all heavy and dark, there were songs like Take Aim, or Give, or Say That you Will, or Drag Me Under. (It also reminds me of When The Bough Breaks, from their first EP, just the Epic feeling around the second chorus and that almost happy feeling around the song! Of course this isn't as long, but it still reminds me of that in some places ^^) It just shows that most people didn't listen to the entirety of Sundowning, which is a shame, because it is a 10 out of 10 for me, and it looks like the next Album is going to go in the same boat!

In all my years i have never liked every song any band or artist has made. That is until today. I havent found a single one of Sleep Token's mysic that isnt an absolute and complete example of pure MUSIC.
This band at some point will blow up. I think Covid obviously delayed it but these guys deserve it. Every song they put out is incredible. Heavy drops, jazz infusions, slow journeys, elite drumming, A+ vocals, etc. All amazing. To me they are like a Bon Iver/Deftones amalgamation on steroids but so much more than that. I haven't found a song I don't love yet.
I interpreted this music video on a deeper level than I thought I initially would… you’ll notice what seems to be countless ribbons tied everywhere and what I found very relatable and heartfelt was he is continuing to lose a battle with someone or more than one person that he loves and in the end… it kills him. Maybe not physically but it kills him inside… thus tying a new ribbon to resemble starting over again. Penance: voluntary self-punishment inflicted as an outward expression of repentance for having done wrong… Beautiful and profound video with such an incredible heartfelt depth…
I had a similar takeaway, but I also saw the dancers as representing multiple personalities of the same woman, and the protagonist is willing to keep fighting and not stop loving her, being defeated by each personality over and over again. He sees her real beauty, even when every part of her fights against seeing it as well. The lyrics in the first verse indicate that he knows the easiest thing would be to say she doesn't love him/ has lost interest, but his true love for her compels him regardless. Anyway, that's my interpretation.
Oh man, the consideration for both the "i" and the "you" in whatever relationship this is...just makes it all the more emotionally impactful. And that this is a continuation of his "weapon of choice". And the feeling of catharsis I'm so familiar with in Sleep Tokens music makes me want to Worship all the more.

I might be reading into this wrong, but feels like the dancers are the butterflies in his stomach that he gets for this person after all this time. It's unrequited in some way, so he ventures down each day to kill them to make it stop, but he fails, tying another ribbon to the tree to mark the attempt.

@levoldunom it's an internet-based community lore, with a wiki dedicated to make monsters and mystical/cursed/ethereal objects. It stands for Secure, Contain, Protect. Very interesting. It started out as a fake post about an SCP (one of the entities) called SCP-173. Then someone made a game about it (SCP: Containment Breach). And once that hit, it went through the internet quickly and everyone was making up their own unique monsters, entities, and objects. You should check it out if that's your thing.

This is SUCH a great video. Unrequited love is always a killer and this tells such a great story about how hard it can be to get over someone who doesn't feel the same way.
I realised something new watching it today: I kept thinking how bad the main character in the video is with a sword. I just assumed the actor didn't know what he was doing. Then it hit me - in the story of the video, the main character is deliberately only swinging half-heartedly. He doesn't really want to kill his feelings for this girl. There's still hope.

i love this part so much.
The beautiful part of this verse is the follow up chorus. “Cause I’m still full of the love you want” means: regardless of “swallowed keys” there will always be a virtue of accepting one for their flaws or misdoings. The entire song is an ode to someone that’s trying over and over again without getting success.
It’s the beauty of perseverance, always try when the outcomes aren’t always in your favor.

Oh, I just realized, it feels like he's traveling through blood vessels and veins, the red leaves and petals are blood. It's like he's fighting off an infection, the feelings he has for this girl that have taken up residence in his heart. Or like an immunity problem, where the white blood cells attach the host. They turn on him, and he loses again. Every ribbon tied to a branch of veins is a loss, a piece of body he failed to regain from being "lovesick". A theme that was in Alkaline as well, a loss of control and autonomy, that ones choices are affected by how they feel about another and how their perspective of you changes what decisions you make. And then with Fall for Me, "I forgot what I am", it's hard to remember when the people you love aren't there to remind you and put the pieces back together, and when you feel so shaped by them by your own choice.

also boosting ST is Vessel's approach to his intense creativity -- especially when you know that 2 eps and 3 albums later, his processing of loss, heartbreak, toxicity, pain, and unrequited love is very real, formidable, and true down to his bones.

I came to this song when someone I was really close to killed themself and here I am back again after my dog just died. I can relate. I'm glad to hear your girl was loved and made it to a good age but I'm sorry you lost her.
I went through the same thing in 2021 my friend. It was slow and we fought so hard but the illnesses were cascading and nothing to be done. I realized that a few days into having to hold up an IV bag to intrevenously hydrate him because he was losing so much water and nutrients through his stomach issues. He was 14, and I had him since about 2 months old. He deserved the rest and my only regret was holding on too long and not giving it to him sooner.
This band is powerful, brutal and sweet as a calm after the storm.
It's like they are the storm AND the calm at the same time.

Just realized the concept of this whole music video and wow, that’s really how life is.
This turned into one of my fav songs of all time. It has metal, it has Pop, it has indie vibes, it has calmness, Beauty, melody, emotion and a certain aesthetic I can't explain.

I've always seen the lore of this band, worshiping "Sleep" and spreading their message, as a metaphor in itself. In order to live the dream you first have to be asleep. So "Sleep" offers the promise of the dream to vessel. So every song has almost a triple meaning. The message on the surface that sounds like it's about a relationship, The one slightly underneath about the lore of sleep token, and then the real message behind everything about chasing the dream.
That’s an interesting take. I was kind of thinking about the metaphor of worshiping the Sleep deity too. I noticed throughout a lot of these songs he’s speaking from a very heartbroken, weakened and depressed state. I can’t speak for everyone who suffers from depression or heartbreak but I know that whenever I’m depressed or I got my heart broken, the first thing I wish I could do is just go to sleep. Perhaps the metaphor of worshiping sleep in a cult-like manor as a deity is his way of praying for respite from his pain.

One of the creepier aspects of creating any kind of art is losing yourself in it, even if just a tiny bit.
When I look back on the pieces of a big project or the finish work, it is unreal. It didn't come from the waking mind; given enough time, it is alive to you.
Far too much of what ST does reflects what art does to you. And in the end, it's a whisper in your ear telling you to close your eyes and step into that place, perhaps to never return.
And then you wake up.

It might be a completely wonky interpretation of the song, but with Vessel being a "vessel" for Sleep's message, when I hear the song, I pictured it like Sleep is the one singing through Vessel but also TO Vessel, if that makes any sense? Like, Sleep and mortal beings/vessels exist on planes a tiny step apart ("you lie an inch apart on your own continuum"), Sleep chiding Vessel or followers to maybe not speak ill of themselves ("keep the freakshow talk to a careful minimum), kind of some back-and-forth almost like maybe Vessel doubting or hiding aspects of himself from Sleep in some ways, and Sleep doing the same. "too many swallowed keys will make you bleed internally" could be literally, or more like musical keys? Holding down emotions/songs/worship and the like. And in general in the song a message of Sleep promising love that maybe Vessel(s) and their followers have never known or been able to find/keep on Earth, but Vessel's devotion to Sleep also showing through the same parts of the chorus, that he's still full of love for Sleep? I dunno, articulating how I hear it like this is hard, ahaha, but regardless, love love LOVE this song and band so much ❤

im only just seeing this music video now after my obsession has taken root and i think i could write an essay on it . but i also can't put any of it into words? sleep token makes me feel so crazed and so complicated
After over two years this song still doesn’t fail to touch the deepest part of my heart.
One thing I find especially worth noticing are the white ribbons at the beginning and the end of the video, which are tied to tree branches. The video has many references to Japanese culture (the Katana or the makeup of the dancers, for example).
When you visit a shrine in Japan, you can get so called „omikuji“ which are basically long, white, rectangle pieces of paper, on which one’s fortune is written. You can also see many of these paper stripes bound to tree branches on the shrine area and it is believed, that by tying your fortune stripe to a tree branch, it means that you ask the life force of the tree to help you make your wish come true. It is also a common practice to tie omikuji with bad luck to the tree in hope to avert your bad fortune.
When I saw the video for the first time, the white ribbons immediately reminded me of the japanese omikuji, because they look so similar. So maybe the ribbons represent the foretelling of a bad fortune in terms of overcoming a one-sided love. And even though the main character gets killed by one of the dancers every time he tries to literally kill his feelings for this person, he still tries to change his destiny by binding the ribbon of one of the dancers to a tree branch after he wakes up.
Or maybe I am over-interpreting things, but if I know one thing about Sleep Token, then it’s that symbolism plays an essential role both in their lyrics and their videos.

According to the lore, Sleep offered Vessel glory and power (something like that) in exchange for following Him and spreading His message; this video looks like a trial of sorts-- the power used is the same as the one seen in Alkaline, and it looks like this video comes beforehand. Some of the movements of the dancers are also quite similar to whatever creature it was in Alkaline as well. Didn't miss the ribbons on what seems to be the lead dancer's wrists, and how many of the same ribbons there are in that starting cave. I can only assume Vessel eventually figured out whatever test it is considering Alkaline.
Thr lyrics express a lot of frustration and desperation, cycling through the same things over and over, perhaps in a slightly different approach, coming very close, but not quite close enough. It's pretty obvious Vessel has been through this trial-- and failed-- several times. But Vessel still wakes up at the end, trying again, as it seems, on faith alone. Taken in the context of Sleep and Vessel's relationship, the lyrics seem to make more sense.
It's beautiful, though. Worship.

And when i watched it the first time it gave me an impressive feeling of how this "relationship" or "lost love" still has enough power over Vessel to bring him to his knees. I saw his sword as a literal way of trying to cut the strings still attached to that person/the past? But each time he tried to cut himself loose, the grip and power of that person would hold him captive, making him only hurt himself more - so the white ribbons are tokens to every time he tried to free himself and that despite the powers he obviously holds (as seen in Alkaline), love - or the loss of it - is stronger than all that makes him powerful. Which would make for an impressive metaphor.

I just need say. As an artist myself and a full time professional in the music industry, much of the music I hear gets lost by the wayside. Nothing personal just the result of continual overexposure. However, when I was shown the Sundowning album last February I sat in awe as the album came to an end. It was the first time in many years that a band touched my soul. A Cathartic experience to say the least. You all deserve the highest praise and support. This is going to be my jam for the next week straight, nothing bad or boring about that, just doesn't have a dark feeling to it. Sundowning was like that too, it wasn't all heavy and dark, there were songs like Take Aim, or Give, or Say That you Will, or Drag Me Under. (It also reminds me of When The Bough Breaks, from their first EP, just the Epic feeling around the second chorus and that almost happy feeling around the song! Of course this isn't as long, but it still reminds me of that in some places ^^)
It just shows that most people didn't listen to the entirety of Sundowning, which is a shame, because it is a 10 out of 10 for me, and it looks like the next Album is going to go in the same boat!
The instrumental is again amazing. The chords, the piano, the drums when it comes in.

In all my years i have never liked every song any band or artist has made. That is until today. I havent found a single one of Sleep Token's mysic that isnt an absolute and complete example of pure MUSIC.
This band at some point will blow up. I think Covid obviously delayed it but these guys deserve it. Every song they put out is incredible. Heavy drops, jazz infusions, slow journeys, elite drumming, A+ vocals, etc. All amazing. To me they are like a Bon Iver/Deftones amalgamation on steroids but so much more than that. I haven't found a song I don't love yet.
I think we’re finally seeing it, headlining festivals and tours in 2023. It’s much deserved for these guys. 🖤

I interpreted this music video on a deeper level than I thought I initially would… you’ll notice what seems to be countless ribbons tied everywhere and what I found very relatable and heartfelt was he is continuing to lose a battle with someone or more than one person that he loves and in the end… it kills him. Maybe not physically but it kills him inside… thus tying a new ribbon to resemble starting over again.
Penance: voluntary self-punishment inflicted as an outward expression of repentance for having done wrong…

I had a similar takeaway, but I also saw the dancers as representing multiple personalities of the same woman, and the protagonist is willing to keep fighting and not stop loving her, being defeated by each personality over and over again.
He sees her real beauty, even when every part of her fights against seeing it as well. The lyrics in the first verse indicate that he knows the easiest thing would be to say she doesn't love him/ has lost interest, but his true love for her compels him regardless.
Anyway, that's my interpretation.

Oh man, the consideration for both the "i" and the "you" in whatever relationship this is...just makes it all the more emotionally impactful. And that this is a continuation of his "weapon of choice".
And the feeling of catharsis I'm so familiar with in Sleep Tokens music makes me want to Worship all the more.

I just found this song right now. I have been listening to it on repeat. I first only listened to the song and was amazed. Then I watched the video and I had never listened and seen such beauty. From the instruments and singers. To the art of the video and the dancers. This song in its entirety is now my number one song.

My love for these artists has no limits , no music has ever stirred every emotion within me so beautifully and ugly.
I love how you can feel/hear his anger and hurt build in this song until it breaks and fades away... in a sense that's how time and healing works it all builds until the dam gives out and everything just flows onward to clear sight and better days.. I might be reading into this wrong, but feels like the dancers are the butterflies in his stomach that he gets for this person after all this time. It's unrequited in some way, so he ventures down each day to kill them to make it stop, but he fails, tying another ribbon to the tree to mark the attempt.
