3 things: there's a black friday price for Beatles singles box that is continuing into weekend. Second, 12 days of Beatles is strange as it's open to US/Canada but don't think there's a "state" option for province if you're from Canada. Third, I keep noticing your "Tune In" deluxe box in the background: I've read the initial "smaller" release - if you can call that major tome small - and it was amazing - outdid any biography on the Beatles I'd read before owing to the real research and love that went into it - I would like to know how big a difference, and how much more there is, to the deluxe (there was so much in the smaller book, I can't imagine what more Mark Lewisohn could say!)... not to mention, how many years before the next installment, and how can he not call the next two "Turn On" and "Drop Out" - would be perfect!
Keep up the great work! Thanks.
Pinning this comment to the top for anyone looking to pick up the Singles set. The Beatles' online store has it for 20% off the list price for now - probably the best deal out there (Through 1 December?). Thanks Alan!
That's weird that the contest isn't Canadian-friendly. Behind the UK and US, it's gotta be a huge market...
As for the "extended edition" of Tune In, there was no question for me: I wanted as much info as possible. :) The difference is vast. Lewisohn: "This is how we've ended up with two different products: the 960-page book (October 2013) and the 1728-page monster (November 2013). It's everything I wrote, and I'm very proud of it. More to the point, I'm happy with both books." I won't say it's twice as good - the best stuff is in the standard version. But it's just more tidbits and (worthy) rabbit trails.
TBD on Volumes 2 & 3. ML has given no timeline, but has said he's researching them simultaneously. Hopefully the gap between 2 and 3 is much shorter than the gap between 1 and 2.
@@FabFourArchivist Thanks for the great detailed info - I know I will pick up the bigger book at some point - presumably the extra tidbits and rabbit trails aren't highlighted in yellow so I'll presumably have to read the whole thing again - um, that's okay!
George Harrison died 18 years ago today, my favourite Beatle
All things must pass...
My fav Beatle too
My sweet lord
The random show thing he died on my bday...... WHHHHYYYYYY!?!!!
Cheers!
Great vid. A small correction: Both "Free As A Bird" and "Real Love" were 7" vinyl singles when Anthology came out.
Good catch. This set is the first time they have appeared on the same disc (A/B sides) - flubbed my description.
@@FabFourArchivist I wish they kept them separate. The b-sides weren't on the albums.
Yes, I am sometimes hesitant to watch/read interviews of Lennon or Harrison for fear that I'll have to endure negative or snarky comments about The Beatles or about Paul in particular. It's a shame, because I have found some interviews with John that were quite delightful. Thank you, Paul and Ringo, for keeping 99% of the those emotions out of the permanent record - not an easy task when interviewers and biographers relentlessly dig for dirt.
Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da is just perfect... sad that it doesn't get enough recognition. In it every Beatle stands out!
Totally agree, thouh everybody can Sing It ,what It means to me that It gets into people's brain for any reason that science has just explained 😁
It makes sense they came up with Ob-La-Di - didn't John hate it because it sounded too like a single, or too 'poppy' or something. The balance being that Paul wasn't keen on Revolution 9, which went way the other way! (I'd normally google, but I think that was the case)
John actually didnt hate Obladi at first. Its just that after Paul made them do so many takes, Joh was getting annoyed. But John even added a little part to the song.
I like the song. One of the appealing things to me about The Beatles is how diverse the musical styles can be. However, everyone has his own personal taste. I, for example, turn off the radio or skip the tune whenever a Harrison Indian-flavored song comes on. But let "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," "Something," or "Here Comes the Sun" come on, and the volume is getting turned up full.
@@jerrysmith2354 Yes. And he created the piano introduction.
Thanks a lot for the update about Beatles!!!
"In A Hurry" is my fav and it sounds like "Another Day" in theme, updated some 45 plus years later. Thx for the video, well done as always!
Good link to Another Day. I hear it! Thanks for watching, James.
I love "Another Day" ! 😍
„Home Tonight” is a very catchy, modern pop song. It’s like “Fuh You” and “Nothing For Free”. Paul always writes songs enjoyable by young people, it doesn’t matter if it’s 1963 or 2019. He’s a genius, I’m sure about that...
I saw that Paul recently added some gigs in Europe to the freshen up tour! I'm so happy he's still touring!
Yeah! All good news! Have you seen him live?
@@FabFourArchivist yes!!!! I have been fortunate enough to see him not once but twice!
If by Billy shepard you mean Paul McCartney then yes
Your videos and info are awesome.
This is just good stuff. I learn something new every time I watch FabFourArchivist. Thanks not only for the information, but the way you present it.
You're too kind, Richard. Thanks for watching!
ThNks for another great video.
Thanks Joe. Good to see you here again!
Now I know why my favorites Beatles song it what it is!! Thanks you are so awesome.
Thanks for watching, Kerry!
Nah, the most pleasurable Beatles song is Good Day Sunshine!
Interesting call. And good call. If you're talking major key happy positive, maybe toss in Got To Get You Into My Life.
Personally, I'll be Hey Jude-ing till the cows come home.
Bill Woo Those are definitely songs that make me feel good. The man's vocals on those songs are so ear-pleasing as well.
Really happy to be able to support your channel on Patreon, wish I could give more! Really enjoy the content, editing, research and effort that go into these videos.
Have to say the song that was considered the "most pleasurable" Beatles song is one of my least favourites, haha!
Regarding Pete Townshend's remarks, they came as no surprise, given the fact that throughout the years he's sadly said and done some really weird stuff.
I have free as a bird and real love on 7" vinyl and 4 track CDs and cassette. All from the 90's, all Sound great. Peace ✌ and Love ❤
I checked out the new Paul single on Play Music while standing in line at B F R S D. I wanted the Pretenders singles box, but Reckless of Chicago didn't get any. SO, against my earlier thought, I bought the damn picture disc of Paul's. I love those songs. I think In A Hurry would have made a great album track, perhaps in the middle of either side. I'd have to hear the album again to decide the sequencing. Thanks for posting that link about Townsend. I can't wait to read it when I'm off this bus.
Creating your own running order of Egypt Station... that's a fun idea! Might have to try that with these new tunes and the other bonus tracks. Without timing it out, I wonder if we could've seen a double album out of all the songs that were recorded?
One of the reasons John cited for the disintegration of The Beatles was boredom. They'd played together for a long time and he, in particular, and George were burnt out being Beatles. Aside from the financial difficulties, and some initial sniping in the press they faced after the break-up, it wasn't necessarily personal conflicts and hatred that caused the split.
In Townsend's case it was probably similar. I don't think he really wished both former band mates deaths, but he was probably tired of playing with them as well. In this instance he stated It clumsily.
I'm personally glad The Beatles broke up when they did. They went full circle, came out on top, and didn't endlessly repeat themselves.
Since Townsend was nearly the only writer/composer, there was apt to be jealousy. Nearly every band has it. John Ent. was great bass player and good on the french horn that got some exposure on Tommy. Keith was a great original drummer, but he could go too far and cause Pete to lose his hearing in one ear. Pete could sing but Daltrey was fantastic on vocals. When he song out on "the song is over, its like heaven on earth. he was great on pinball wizard, too. Great pipes on that boy! I loved the who until who are you, which has maybe 3 or 4 good songs, but that was all. That 1978 or 9.
@@diligenceintegrity2308 I like your comments ... but I believe you went overboard with Keith causing the hearing loss.
@@Bill_Woo Its straight out of Townsend's mouth, regarding the Who's appperance on
the Smother's Brother's show. Keith had put explosives in his bass drum
and set it off when Pete was smashing his guitar. Its right on youtube.
He only lost hearing in one ear. You don't get around, Bill.

@@diligenceintegrity2308 Don't be an asshole as your last sentence indicates. :) I'm fully familiar with the incident and even saw it when broadcast, smartass - did you? :) Pete does not equate that single incident to all his hearing issues (both tinnitus and general loss). That was a serious matter, but he has expressed that there has been cumulative damage, and progressive deterioration, chronic, from years of performance. You might be surprised to know that he played for the "world's loudest band." I think there might be something about that right on youtube :) :)
more! more!
Wonder what they're gonna do for the 50th anniversary of "Reel Music."

Free as a Bird and Real Love have been released as vinyl singles before, just not on the same disc. I own the original vinyls of both.
Good catch - I described it incorrectly. Someone caught that yesterday, too. I might have to pick up those 45s.... Came out with Anthology, right (95/96)?
Yes, that's correct. The B sides are Christmas time is here again for Free as a Bird and a live performance of Baby's in Black for Real Love.
@@99Michaelthom and the cd singles have 3 extra tracks each. None of which appear on the albums. Maybe if they put out another ep box in vinyl, they'll include the two anthology "eps".
@@robertsaul234 that'd be sweet!
I absolutely adore The Who. They’re the best rock band ever not named “The Beatles.” The quote is much ado about nothing. I understood what Pete meant. His clarifying post states it all perfectly.
The Who were great. In spite of Daltrey/Townshend's disagreements they've simply created greatness.
And yeah, without that clarifying post it was much worse. But I am still surprised those words left his mouth... in front of a Rolling Stone reporter no less. Bad day for him?
Glad we haven't seen that kind of infighting (well, publicly) from Paul, Ringo, etc.
FabFourArchivist It’s not infighting. He’s not even really being serious. He has long complained about how difficult it was to play with Keith moon, how he was unable to let loose the way he wanted, and how John could be a moody and difficult person to work with at times. I think his original statement was intended with good humor. He’s an old man who’s laughing about how it’s actually easier to play now without those two, because he doesn’t have the same energy or patience. Very honest stuff and not that hard to empathize with.
@@wgb01001 There is no way he could ever make it sound good to say, "I am glad they are gone because they were a pain to work with."
Dallas Brubaker It’s humor, mate. 🙄 Look into it.
@@wgb01001 sure, sick humor
George Harrison r.i.p
When I heard them say that Lennon was lucky that McCartney was around. I made some mini derogatory remarks about Lennon and his past as if anyone is perfect.
McCartney was lucky that The Beatles were around.
They were lucky to have found each other. Yin to the yang.

I'm not a huge Townsend guy. He was jealous of the Beatles and bad mouthed my 2nd fav band led zepplin...
Ya know, to paraphrase another comment here, he's one of those guys where it's probably best to separate the artist from the art (if that's even possible).
I think Paul's two tracks are very good.
What were the circumstances of Paulines death and who will take care of Stuarts estate?
Or, catchy, but simple.
With all the music Paul has written it must be tough to write meaningful lyrics for every song. All the more reasons for you kids to pay attention in English class.
I think it's fair to hold this caliber of musicians to a higher standard, though. When McCartney is mentioned in the same breath as Dylan, it's OK to say "well, he's not Dylan... lyrically" :)
In my view, a bit overly romantic take of Beatle business and unity. The structure of the Beatles’ estates allows the widows to now have an equal say in Beatle business in place of John and George. You bet “all’s forgiven” by Paul and Ringo. The biggest business/estate offense was to Julian Lennon, John’s first son from a prior marriage. My god, Julian had to buy some of his dad’s memorabilia. Sad.
Fair point. I try not to romanticize this stuff (hence the "PR" comment!), but the point remains that Ringo and Paul have had the smarts to not spat in public. There's some behind-the-scenes gossip from the Anthology era, but even that is 20+ years ago.
FabFourArchivist btw, great content love your channel!
Extreme Wadsworth Constant material here.
Just read Pete Townsend’s Facebook post walking back his comments about Keith Moon and John Entwistle. While I understand the complexity of relationships with family and friends, one needn’t blurt out loud in one of the most read rock-n-roll magazines your bitter, mean feelings, even if taken out of context or whatnot. Townsend is entitled in thinking Keith was an awful drunk and Entwistle a cokehead, but there’s something about not saying anything if you don’t have anything nice to say, especially in such a public forum. People are watching, reading and listening and they don’t need to see you air your dirty laundry. And for my own personal beef I’m still unconvinced about Townsend looking at child pornography and his weird explanation of it that he was doing “research” for a book or something. Sorry bringing all this up in a Beatles forum, but in a roundabout way I guess I’m just saying GIVE PEACE A CHANCE!!!! Viva los Beatles!!!!!
Townsend is a genius ... but, he’s also a blowhard. Take everything he says with a grain of salt.
Without Entwistle and Moon The Who would never have existed. The fact that Entwistle changed the
Way bass players approach their instrument says enough about the Ox whether he was in the band or not.
Ryan d Lion Entwistles first album, Smash your head against the wall, was really good. He did a solo version of Heaven and Hell that is better than The Who’s version. The Who are the only band from England, other than the wasn’t the same without all four original members. AND it was Entwistle who made Townsend join the band when they were kids. so ... he’s kind of ... THE MAN
I’m don’t think it’s best work
The two new McCartney songs are disappointing in the one common area ...the lyrics. It's a shame as there are some good points to them musically.
Yeah, he's obviously very capable of writing amazing word. It seems like either he knows these are weak lyrics and doesn't care, or he's unaware and surrounded by no one who will tell him!
@@FabFourArchivist Still as you mentioned his "average" is better than most people's best.
I hope he gets something special in the can, he's due it...and so are we 😉
FabFourArchivist, I think that sometimes he doesn't really care. I imagine that if he likes the "feel," he figures, "Good enough." He is certainly capable of great lyrics.
I'm of two minds over the passing of Pauline.
On the one hand, she's a link to my favorite Beatle that's gone now, and that really sucks.
On the other hand, she's a damned liar who took advantage of the fans when she released that version of "Love Me Tender" supposedly by Stuart, even though it's by the Boston Show Band (both are on RUclips, listen and compare for yourself), and only spread difficulty and trouble relating to Stu.
So sucks that's she gone, but good that she's not in the way any more.
Paul is kind to take away the blame from Yoko Ono for the break up of the Beatles. Paul cites many other reasons such as musical, personal, economic, etc. differences. BUT, Riingo and George did not absolve Ono. There was mention of her unwanted presence during recording sessions and her desire to be part of the group. I think the worst was when she was right there on stage covered with a blanket while the band was playing.
Edgardo simon , the worst for me was when she asked for a microphone and preceded to scream "J-O-H-N-N-N!" Over and over again while Paul played piano, trying to block her noise out and trying not to feel offended. Ringo, God love him! I want to hug him when he remarks to Yoko, "He doesn't appear to be in." 😆
Townsend always says crappy things about the Who in general.
Honestly if it wasnt ringo i think the current macca relationship with anyone else would be sour, especially george and macca, who was probably the most sour after, ringo is a friend of all beatles and a good guy, so it makes kr easy to see how Paul would easily get along with him
Good videos but would like if you ‘slow down ‘ ur talk
Paul McCartney's song's don't mske it as much as Lennon's. In live appearances, Paul is applauded when he sings Beatle song's, not for his own works after the split. It's as if people try hard to bring back the Beatles in Paul but the magic just is not there.
Edgardo simon, I couldn't disagree with you more! And I have actually listened to 95% of Paul's post-Beatles output. BTW: most of the Beatles songs that he performs are HIS SONGS.
I never liked Obladi Oblada.
Pete Townsend has always said stupid stuff . I think a lot of rock stars and just celebrities in general get used to all of the adulation and begin to think they know what’s best , it just goes to their head . Not all , take Paul McCartney , he’s probably the most level headed of them all , and Ringo .
Always knew obla di bla da was their best song.
I think I would've put Good Day Sunshine at the top of the list. But, to be fair, that may be linked to the words - this study actually stripped away lyrics and just looked at chord progressions.
Diamond Jim, I like the song, but let's not get crazy!!! 😳
First!
Idiot
Fab 4 free for all is a joke podcast. They are so anti-Lennon and pro McCartney
Been listening a while or did you just check out a few episodes? I feel like it’s pretty balanced, especially with it being three of them - good variety of opinion. I listen for the humor mostly anyway. :)
'"Even a weak McCartney track is better than many artists best work." That pretty much sums up why hardcore McCartney fans, such as yourself, keep on buying McCartney throwaways year in and year out! I wish McCartney would just retire from the music business! He hasn't released anything relevant and of quality since "Ram" excluding the dreadful "Monkberry Moon Delight". Talk about another '60's musical artist that should retire, that's Pete Townsend!!! The so called "Who" also haven't recorded anything of relevance in the last 50 years!!! Without Keith Moon's innovative and explosive Drumming and John Entwhistle's unique use of the Bass as a soloing instrument, the early Who tracks would sound just like like any other British Pop group!!! The rhythm section of John Entwhistle and Keith Moon is one of the finest in the history of British Pop Music!!! Pete and Roger Daltrey should also retire and go away!!!
No
Gotta disagree with you, but I appreciate you chiming in. Artists can create or tour as much as they like. Their legacies are their own to manage - not mine. If the general public loves the output and the diehards hate it (or vice versa!), I say let the market dictate. No one's forcing anyone else to buy or listen to anything.
And, yeah, I like Paul's stuff. And - surprise! - I like all four of them, together and separately. This isn't a generic music channel, it's Beatles and related. If I wasn't a "hardcore fan," I wouldn't spend hours putting this stuff together for the nearly 40,000 subscribers who enjoy this stuff.
FabFourArchivist 👏🏼 Well said.
