This is true. I remember 4 years ago after I signed my first enlistment papers during my senior year, the recruiter said we had mandatory pt on Wednesdays after school. Pretty good PT sessions before I shipped.

Y’all should have kept quiet. Should be fine though. I got in with some pretty heinous shit from when I was a kid. Delayed me by a year. That was 7 years ago when retention wasn’t so bad

I was disqualified for ADD, I scored a 74 on the entry test. Outscored nearly everyone in my group. 200lbs six foot in height. Six minute flat mile. I got my own plates and train at the range in full kit. So happy I got disqualified cause I see what it’s become now.
Fuckin awesome episode Nikko! Gave me chills and ill admit you had me applauding couple times. Before i even went to my army recruiter, i started working out eating better and doing what i could to prepare mentally. Thanks for being so inspirational to us and not being afraid to share what you feel 👏🏻👏🏻
My recruiter helped motivate me and I worked on my own time to lose 80lbs to be able to join. Going through making those tough changes and working hard is what helped me get through the training and everything.
I’m currently still active and just had a class discussion in ALC about this fat camp thing going on. If there’s any NCOs in the comments, one thing you have to realize is that when these civilians go through the fat camp and manage to slip there way into the force units, you do not have any data on the soldier if they’ve ever had any weight problems. It’s literally erased from their ERB/STR. So with that being said it’s very likely that soldier will become over weight again and you don’t have any info to know if they need more help with PT, Diet, ect.
As an NCO, trust me if they get overweight (i cannot speak on other NCOs or units) they will have extra PT to get back into the army standard or they will go thru fat camp again aka the ABC program. But not maintaining the fitness standard comes down to personal discipline, if the person doesn’t want to maintain the fitness standard to do their jobs, i fully recommend they get out and we replace them with someone who actually wants to be here. (Sounds mean but I’m not saying the comment to be mean at all)
You literally didn't know if any other recruit that showed up "skinny" wont be fat later on in their career. It's a whole lotta stuff about nothing and is an odd thing to freak out about.
I think the biggest issue is something you touched on, talking about how civilian issues are now being made military issues. I saw this start happening while I was in AFSOC around 2019. Things that normally would’ve been considered stupid big air force shit started to ooze its way into special operations, so I got out in 2021 after 10 years and was looking to do more.
I went through a class recently in the military that had thier own psych professionals. I can say with 100% surety that if you can't displine yourself enough to be ready for basic then you will have a breakdown in the military. The standards are there to protect people that can't cut it simple as that.
I'm the opposite. Currently a cadet right now. And I was told I have to gain weight. No problem. Recruiter told me that he has other that he told that they need to loose the weight. He wasn't happy that people who are unfit came in but he told them what they need to do and do it.
As someone who wants to join (still in high school) it’s sad to see how soft the army has become and one thing I’ve really looked at is the pride and having a fat camp, drill sergeants not being able to use a knife hand, and the military in general getting weaker it makes us as a county look worse and worse. Niko talks about how it was way tougher when he was there and I want the same experience but I don’t think it will be that strong with the same challenges by the time I’m eligible.

Honestly this is what people need to hear because that is the problem! people don't want the truth
I love you Nikko lol , you are the best . Way to slap reality into people faces.
I’m glossary prior service from the marines, I finally got my stuff I need to re enlist into the army. From what I understand I shouldn’t be as thrilled as I am. Military has changed so much
Recruitment is down because theres no "fun" enemy's.
Agree I’m on the bigger side and I wanna join but I’ve been going for runs and hiking and gym to lose weight
My husband has wanted to join for years but has a misdemeanor for assault for something he didn't do. If you can get him recruited he would love to join.
Marine recruitment has skyrocketed compared to other branches now. The surpassed their quota whereas every other branch hasn't.
27:50 a solution: stop with the you can't join because you got piercings, tattoos or some crazy medical record and let the people who are physically and mentally fit join even though they got those things
I agree with you 100%. If you want to join, show the dedication beforehand and lose weight.
It gave me chills lol. I 100% agree
One big thing people don’t understand about non-combat MOSs is that they can be put in the shit too.
I love your channel bro especially the brutally, honest opinions you share I plan to join up myself next year .
Thank you bro makes me think a lot about this you are a good man man fr me thank you
Meanwhile someone like me who went to basic got and got hurt had been turned down 3 times when trying to rejoin the army and they have these shitbags flocking in.
I love this. I'm 35yrs old and just now trying to enlist. I got into some trouble in my early 20s and thought I'd never be able to enlist but when I seen the age limit raise it was a message to me that it is time. Now I'm having to file some extra paperwork to get in but if I they do wave me in I will be the best recruit they have ever seen. I'm lean and mean rough and tough and I have always loved the military LET'S GO!
Brother doing great shit
Literally
