    Have to pay for a fishing licence but not allowed to fish anywhere apart from over priced membership lakes with stupid rules like you can only use baits purchased on site and all that bull crap... Can see where fishing is headed, once river fishing is outlawed completely thats when my gear will be up for sale.

    • @theHorizonLiner
      @theHorizonLiner  3 года назад +65

      Thank you for mentioning that, you make an excellent point. It's a sad truth and the worst part is this isn't even all of it. Just do us a favour and don't sell that gear, don't give up on angling. Remember it starts with you 🎣💯

    • @UncalBertExcretes
      @UncalBertExcretes 3 года назад +44

      @@theHorizonLiner The problem is as the free fishing gets outlawed, like river fishing and public lakes, the club lake owners feel like they have more traction on the anglers so they ramp up the costs to £300+ per year memberships, ban you from using your own baits so you got to spend £20 on their own bait every session, just trying to make you spend a ton of money to effectively cheat fish a stocked lake.
      I'm like you, I like proper fishing on the rivers and natural un-stocked lakes catching less but more prized fish.

    • @asp383
      @asp383 3 года назад +5

      @@UncalBertExcretes Should look at the River Uck in Uckfield, East Sussex, access to some parts are trickier than others and restrictions upstream of the section above the rugby pitches and downstream of the bypass.
      Only 1 lake in Crawley, West Sussex is open day ticket, all the lakes are owned by the council, but the rest are under the control of clubs or the company that runs Tilgate lake, the exception being Broadfield Lake, which is under the control of an angling acadamy, who have a restocking program etc, I think 1/2 the time, they may only charge £5 for me and 2 of my kids at worst.
      Agree about clubs though, I know they maintain and restock etc, but when you've got the annual subs, new joiner fee and still have to buy a day ticket, it takes the mickey. I've only attented a few private fisheries, but none have had their own bait only policy, however, being the tight git I am, any unused bait would be kept for if I visited again, after all, £20-£30 ticket + inflated bait prices of at least £10-£20 for something I could get at my local tackle shop for £5 is a rip off.

      I fished for years for pike at a nice lake near me and caught a few decent specimens there too, same spot year after year no problems. Then an older couple from up the country (city folk) with more money than sense built a mansion on the hill the other side of the road behind where I fish, and on two occasions while I was there minding my business, having a nice relaxing time, I caught sight of Mr "big shot" at the bottom of his garden which overlooks the lake, standing intimidatingly, looking at me through binoculars.......for a very long time, nearly the whole time while I was there. Next time same thing,, only I climbed up on a rock beside me and cupped my hands up to my eyes as though I took had binoculars.... He got visibly infuriated and stomped off in to his house. I made enquiry's about him and found out the people around him all hate him,, and their had been an argument already between him and a local farmer, something to do with access to a field, he was, or still is,, some sort of revenue inspector, so many no surprises there. Is it the freedom of country living that goes to their heads you wonder??

    Very sad state of affairs, I was born in Camden, London, in 1965, and from the age of around 8 years on; would hand catch sticklebacks out of the regents canal with friends. And so my love of fishing began. I fished over the years of my youth practically every river, canal, stream, lake, and reservoir in London and the greater London area, up until I joined the Army at 19; all of the forgotten rivers, even Thames waters new river (Great for Pike). Anyway, decades later I revisited Camden's Regents canal, and found it to be completely modernised with trendy estates and no fishing sings everywhere. Interestingly, I observed that Sticklebacks no longer exist in these waters. It is such a shame that whole new generations have and are being denied access to nature, curiosity, and the ability to learn the importance of conservation for themselves in these trendy city environments.

The only thing they care about is property property property. They'd slap private signs on everything they see if they could. No music, no wild camping, no fishing, no adventures. Boring robotic children that will grow up to be just like them caring only about house prices and how many cars are on the drive.

    It's a shame that anyone who lives near a body of water or next to a canal believes they have a right to control access to it.
    It's strted happening at my local dock, housing has gone up and residents are calling the Police or outright intimidating anglers.
