    This video breathes "competent violence." Like the guy knows what he's doing, he's not doing anything wrong, but it just feels... rough.

      Haha, had the same reaction. The way they laid that bead of sealants though, you could tell they know what they’re doing.

    What did you set the digital torq to bolt the valve cover? What's the nm or lbs? Did you need something under the car to hold the engine due to the engine braket removal?

    Nice narration comments! Also, that tech appears to be working crazy fast. How much faster is he than the book time for this job? Like 3x faster? Just curious.

    Do you have to remove the engine mount bracket? Also, did you put cylinder 1 in TDC?

      You do not have to do either of these things.

    What kind of grit or name if that yellow pad used to clean the cradle/valve cover??

    • @xPurpBoyyx
      @xPurpBoyyx 3 месяца назад +1

      it's an adhesive remover pad. They're not abbrasive to the metal, and some are even for paint use without scratching the body.

    Did you have to drain the oil first

    • @GremcoGarage
      @GremcoGarage  10 месяцев назад +1

      You do not have to drain the oil to do the valve cover reseal.

      It will piss out a bit from the dipstick tube due to how the oil level works.

    How do you keep the cams and timing in check?

    • @370szn6
      @370szn6 8 месяцев назад +1

      Yes I was wondering the same thing, I am about to have to do this all for my girlfriends car. The Mechanics said it’s a 8-10 hour job and quoted just under $5k for it, but this guy made it look way too easy to take that long (which I do know that’s because he has spent hours, days, months and years of his life building up his expertise but still I know when a mechanic is trying to pull a fast one). Wonder how long it should actually take? Hopefully he can throw us a reply, never the less he gained a follow from me 100%

    • @twentyonehertz
      @twentyonehertz 8 месяцев назад +1

      Yes I am wondering this, it doesn’t seem like the cams or timing is touched at all.

    • @GremcoGarage
      @GremcoGarage  8 месяцев назад +4

      I would just mark the chain and cans with a paint pen . I know it’s not the “correct” procedure but I’ve done hundreds of these and as long as you leave the chain and cam bracket alone the timing won’t move

      @@GremcoGarage thanks for the insight. I’ve done the piston soak but the resealing has me a little spooked. I’m a diesel mechanic by trade and this little 4 cylinder has me shaking lol.

      Do you have to have #1 tdc or just remove the cover and be careful not to bump the cams or sprockets.
