Whispering Steppes (哽噎的草原) 慾水(欲水)的英文版: Love is dear, lover is rare Love is never where your eyes would stare Unexpectedly even blindingly Love will show its face to you, no lie Fears subside, clearly why Time has come for me to stand aside Unencumberedly though reluctantly Upon the whispering steppes I lie with pride I was cradle of my hopes, now lies my resting grave The warmth of life has left me half-embraced For those who rendered fears and pain I will surely pay with a smile you can’t escape Free at last, from the past Time has come for me to greet the vast “Unencumberedly though reluctantly Upon the wispering steppes I lie" Unenecumberedly, so gracefully Above the whispering steppes I’d fly ===
Why do all Chyi Yu songs make me wanna cry?!?!?! O___o You know I'm probably wrong, but my interpretation of this song sounds like its talking about someone disfigured in an accident of some sort.
+kilderok You're right to a certain extent ... this song belongs to a chinese movie called The Send Down Girl (Tian Yu in chinese) .. its a story about what happened to a teenage girl during the Chinese Cultural Revolution during the 60s and 70s. The government had a programme of sending young teenagers to the rural areas to learn the skills of agriculture. The tragedy was that when the program was stopped, many of these teens were forgotten and left behind by the irresponsible officials who failed to bring them back to their home place .. This girl in particular was so desperate to go home in an honourable fashion (with properly appraised paperworks by the officials) that she resorted to giving sexual favours to a bunch of crooks who promised but never brought her home. I think the movie was based on a short story ..the movie itself was forbidden in China (its secretly filmed in China and smuggled out by first time director Joan Chen) but the beautifully filmed tragedy was so well made that it won many awards that year .. watch it if you can, an amazing movie ..
If you see the Chinese version and understand the meaning. It actually talks about the feeling of that girl. I think it is some kind of desperation and feel ashamed of herself.

Whispering Steppes (哽噎的草原)
慾水(欲水)的英文版:
Love is dear, lover is rare
Love is never where your eyes would stare
Unexpectedly even blindingly
Love will show its face to you, no lie
Fears subside, clearly why
Time has come for me to stand aside
Unencumberedly though reluctantly
Upon the whispering steppes I lie with pride
I was cradle of my hopes, now lies my resting grave
The warmth of life has left me half-embraced
For those who rendered fears and pain
I will surely pay with a smile you can’t escape
Free at last, from the past
Time has come for me to greet the vast
“Unencumberedly though reluctantly
Upon the wispering steppes I lie"
Unenecumberedly, so gracefully
Above the whispering steppes I’d fly

Love this song! I don't get why the words sound so poetic even though they keep making no sense if you take the melody away o.O
It makes sense and relevant if you do watch the movie.
@ZOENNEFEY that's why i'm watching too!
