I'm more interested in knives like this lately. Well made folders with pb washers have such a nice feel. The biggest issue I have with spartan knives are the plunge grinds. Not that adding a sharpening choil would be difficult but you shouldn't have to at that price. Just looks sloppy the way it's done
I love it when knife companies include a little tab in the recess for the clip on the unused side, I wish all companies have a recess for the clip and the little tab.
Got a full size Harsey in S45VN used about 9 months ago and really like it. It's built like a tank! It is big. I've got large hands and I could easily get another finger on the frame, (If I had an extra finger). Not a thin slicey blade, but it is sharp and it cuts things.
Of Course You, Nick, David C Anderson, the other guy when his wife is at work and.. continue with our favorites.....we Love you all💙 Stay Sharp 🇺🇸 Sgt. Steve (Ret.)
Ive always liked that design. Id prefer a 3.5" or larger blade size for it though. The design just lends itself to larger, heavier duty tasks imo. I certainly wouldnt pass on it as is though. Thats a handsome knife! Great review as always. Thanks!
I got the DLT exclusive Spartan Harsey Folder - Warthog 4.875" love it, Spartan deserve more love they're definitely Chris reeve and Hinderer level and quality.
Love the Spartan Blades Harsey. And the guys at Spartan Blades are awesome next lvl customer service. Only company I can compare them to is protech and honestly protech is the best in the business when it comes to customer service.
I’ve wanted one of either these or the full-size harseys for a long time now. This, xm18, sng and an arius are on the list of high end users I’ll eventually buy
Love the knife. $400 plus is really good for a knife you would not be afraid to use. As you were speaking of glove use with knife, i was thinking that you could wear a thin work clove to demonstrate. Or do you think that's too much? Just thinking. 🤔 Thanks for your reviews. The newbie 🦁
The full size SHF is one of my favorite knives. It had some pretty bad fit and finish issues at first, which seems to be a thing with Spartan. But the issues were easy enough to work out and smooth out. Also, they must do really well with their heat treat. I have used the hell out of that knife and still have a great working edge with nothing more than stropping a few times.
@@f4t4lity0r4 I didn't contact them. The filler tab was raised, but putting some folded up plumbers tape under one side made it flush. There was a bur on the lockbar that was rubbing the blade that required some filing and the blade came off center. All easily fixable, but sloppy mistakes for a knife in this tier.
Now that’s a nice looking knife 👍👍. I really don’t like liner locking knives and think they’re prone to fail but I really don’t abuse them like that . I pick up a hatchett or the right tool for the job . Ontario Rat went up to $35 . Do you guys think it’s still a deal ?
I love that Harsey, I want to save and get one of the special ones like the plague doctor. They oook so good. I want the big boy though. I wouldn’t mind getting it re-ground to make it a tad thinker behind the edge though. I think a good hollow would be perfect for if.
This is absolutely beautiful and looks like its built like a tank. Now I might catch flack for this, but the blade shape looks almost EXACTLY like my Bestech Swordfish in S35VN (which I love btw). I know there is no comparison as far as build quality between the two. This is more than I would typically spend as my knives see some regular use and I really don't have any 'show knives', with what this costs I feel thats what this would become.
Trust me, as someone who regularly carries and uses an umnumzaan, you’ll feel good using something that you know was made very well to extremely high standards. It also feels good to support the home team. Assuming you’re from the US.
I buy cheap knives and expensive knives. Some of my expensive knives are a lot better than my cheap knives, and some are about the same. The one thing that will absolutely, 100% of the time get me to open my wallet (even if I can get the same quality for half the price) is if the knife is made in the USA. Easy decision.
@@metal_complex I agree, I'm always willing to pay more for a USA made knife. The most I've spent so far was on my Para 2, I have yet to take a $300+ plunge
Nice knive, but having no lock bar and a too wide milled groove in my opinion is a no go. This is 2023, and there are other ways then milling for that grove.

Dude every time you unbox or review something I think why haven’t you reviewed this yet and I see your review of it- literally I was thinking this is a better sebenza I have the blacked out 3.95 inch version and it’s really an improved sebenza
I've got 3 Harseys, two little guys and a full size, and they all have that slight angle to the filler tab. Doesn't really bother me but also is something I noticed right away and just figured it was a normal thing for these. To me, this is interchangeable with my small Sebenzas in terms of use, and they're nearly identical in dimensions. I tend to grab the CRK if I want something that looks nicer or this if I want something a bit more flashy, especially the plague doctor.
I love Spartan knives. Unfortunately, all of my SHF knives have pivot lash. I was really surprised that yours doesn’t. Been thinking about sending mine all in or not. Any suggestions or what to do to fix the pivot lash?
Spartan customer service is the best I have ever seen. Hell they pushed me to send it in. I have the worst luck in the world sometimes so I actually had to send it in one after the other as there were new issues... But totally worth it because they both are perfect now. Like much better than a seby or a hinder or a strider but all rolled up into one.
I'm thinking about grabbing it, since 3.25 - 3.35 is my sweet spot. But, I might hold out for a 3.5 inch, or I might cop in like an hour from now since I keep missing out on the firetacs.
I know it has nothing to do with this knife. And I’m totally kidding when I say this. I curse you for ever showing that dang Kizer drop bear!!!! It’s all I’ve thought about!! I’ve searched all over. And it’s always sold out. I’m subscribed to so many knife pages and to notify me when it’s back in stock. Haha. It’s such am amazing looking knife. Rant over. Lol.
It’s the lack of a sharpening choil (don’t want to dremel) and no deep carry pocket clip (because that’s what I want from this knife) that prevents me from getting the full size shf.
Slightly off topic but not… any chance we will be blessed with another episode of “Metal Shabazz” or “Nick Complex”? Love the channel Sir. keep up the great work.
Guy's a bit of a blow-hard. If it has "Made in USA" on it's basically at least 95% made in the US. It's a fairly tightly controlled label. You can look up the FTC's requirements online.
Olamic cutlery has a lot of their parts made in Italy and then they are assembled and customized in California as far as I am aware. Not really aware of any American brands that claim American made and have parts or the whole of their knives made overseas. Except for Jake Hoback Knives (yikes). 100% American brands are CRK, Hinderer, tactile, Protech, toor, TRM, microtech (except for socom bravo) etc. probably forgot a couple.
I've got both (0450CF and SHF 3.25). The ZT has thinner blade stock and is a little "slicier". The ZT's handle is a smidge longer, so if you have bigger hands, your pinky may be a little more comfy. The SHF has some pretty aggressive jimping, for light use it will not be as comfortable as the ZT. The SHF is made for harder use and that jimping will come in handy for tighter grip situations and will lock into hand easier. Blade length is the same, except the ZT has a sharpening choil, so the cutting edge on the ZT is a little shorter. The ZT has the flipper tab which, when open, will keep you from riding too far forward. The ZT is S35VN, so the steel isn't quite as tough as the SHF, but probably won't really notice. Two great knives, just made for different intensities.
My only problem is as a user the blade is brittle . One broke falling off a tailgate. I ground that down then it broke cutting a zip-tie . Sure they look great , but for everyday use I would gladly pass .
I find it waaaaay less painful to join a bst group for the manufacturer or just the manufacturers main group on Facebook. People are much less likely to price gouge and scams are very very rare. There’s also a lot of fun people in the groups.
No steel lockbar insert? thats the biggest dealbreaker, for that price. I go rather with CRK in this Price range. Becouse over Time u will rubb the Titanium down and the lock not works probably anymore
You talk about Spartan knives like they are above Spyderco, Benchmade, ZT etc, but then they come with issues.
