Bearings and Direction (PreCalculus)

- This video is about bearings and direction. You often see this sort of material in a precalculus class. I talk about three-figure bearings and also about compass bearings. There are two questions with solutions and a third more difficult question that will be linked in the comments.
There is trigonometry involved as well but nothing too heavy in this video.
as was pointed out, my questions ask for how many miles did the boat travel but my units are in kilometers (d'oh!)! just pretend the units are the same (make it all miles or all kilometers) or just feel free to convert at the end. sorry!
yo im in my second year of engineering school, i dont need this. but i just wanted to say thanks for the help since freshman year in highschool, and nice to see u back!!!
Facts he helped out a lot when I was in highschool as well
He got me through engineering school a few years back. I will forever be indebted to him.
thanks homie :) i always appreciate the kind words.
You helped me pass my math classes while a freshman and sophomore in college. I'm one year away from being an EE. Thabks for everything man. Will always be a subscriber
so cool. you will be making bank! congrats man :)
I graduated Engineering thanks to this guy.
I didn't... But I sure did pass my math classes!
@@acorngirl might I ask why?
@@pokeman316 depression (manifested as bad self discipline, alcoholism, low confidence, not doing much of anything at all) lol. I think everything turned out pretty well in the end though :)
@@acorngirl I understand man. It is never late to try again tho.
Great video sir. It's been long since you posted. I have really missed you. Thank you for inspiring me to start my own RUclips channel. ♥️♥️♥️♥️
awesome homie. best of luck to your channel!
There is another one who started channel with your inspiration 🌹Thanks
Just came here to say thanks for helping me get through my math classes you’ll remain like a bright star in the sky of my mind
I believe solution to the second problem is wrong. The hypotenuse should be 51km.
i re-read it as i definitely do make mistakes too! but this one is correct.
@@patrickjmt Well, I'm not going to argue any further. But the problem clearly states that the boat is due south of the lighthouse and it 'sails on a bearing of 292 degrees for 51km' until its due south of the lighthouse. Whereas your solution starts from boat being at 51km south of lighthouse. Two things are altogether different.
@@ajaymore3009 I agree that the way the problem is stated implies that the hypotenuse is 51Km.
I finished engineering. Thanks to you.. i wish u had some sought of patreon account ....
i do have a patreon account :) go join and tell and your friends :)))
Patrick I hate to do this to you because the principle of the lesson you taught on the 1st problem was right but the answers were wrong, the units were in kilometers 25 km and question 1a and 1b asked how many miles did the boat travel north and west, just a heads up. (minor correction)
thanks, i appreciate it! i will make a note in the comment section about it :)
Omg Welcome Back! I graduated from University already but still enjoy your lessons.
Yay! Thank you!
He’s back!
guess who's back? back again? patrickjmt is back, tell a friend.
Good to see you again. 👍🏻
thanks, i appreciate it
It's good to see you again. You inspired me a lot and I recommend some of my students to check in for your videos. I really appreciate your work and together we can help out many people as far as mathematics is concern. Keep up the good work!
thanks!
The term “bearings”, when did this come about? I don’t remember this at all and I took precalc in 2013. Lol
Will be thankful if you share the details of new setup you are using
ipad pro and notability app
@@patrickjmt thank you
Though I did bearing 10. Years ago I am here just to say hi u really helped me in my Applied mathematics but ur voice is just as it was in 10yrs ago
i' m getting older and older and older, glad i don't completely sound like it yet :)
Anyone know what happens to Nancy pi?
Hey Patrick,
Welcome Back! So, I am in 11th grade taking pre-cal. It is super interesting and I recommend students to do pre-cal before cal and best of luck for you math journey! To pan out, students will do extremely lit in this course.
yyyyyyyyyeeeeeeeeessssssss you have no idea how long I have been waiting for this lession!!! I did not know it was coming but the second it was shown in my notifications, I was like, bless his soul!
The master returns ...
Yoooooo, appreciate you very bro!
Good to see you again
Love the new set up! I used the same set up when distance learning first started last year. If it helps, I also used an Apple Magic Track Pad 2 as a mouse pointer to point at what I was referring to as I was talking. At that point, mouse support for iPad pros had just been released! Notability also does have the laser pointer, but I found it easier to just have the track pad to my side and use that instead of switching back and fourth between laser and pen 😊
this is so helpful, thanks!
The King!
love the new setup
thanks!
