Right after I went on a diet and ramped up my daily workout routine I see this. I never knew desk-bike is a thing, and as a cycling enthusiast I'd love to have one, too bad it's so expensive - 500 bucks, when a bike without a desk costs 50.

The idea of being able to edit while working out is awesome.

Speaking of stereotypes, as another white middle aged overweight IT guy with an asian girlfriend (although I have a thai model compared to I assume your Chinese wife), here's a pro-tip: recumbent magnetic resistance bicycle with a detached (thus no instability introduced by your locomotion) side table with a regular wireless mouse (I'm using a Logitech G602) in your living room near a large screen TV w/ a HTPC to game on does wonders. With a high density memory foam cushion and a towel on top, I can comfortably bike for an hour or more playing CIV6 which really only requires a mouse, and the distraction keeps you from noticing how many miles you've gone. In addition to a low-carb diet, the biggest change being no more bread or breaded products, I've gone from 250lbs to 175lbs, with some added muscle thanks to starting resistance training (I can now bench 225lbs which is a lot considering I thought the bar was heavy when I started heh). I'd also recommend once you lose the weight to shave your head and grow a beard, and the combination really projects masculinity and I think you'll really enjoy it. As a side benefit, my endurance in other things has increased tremendously, and while oddly I still require blood pressure medication, it is reduced and I'm not on anything else.

Good tips. Except for "projecting my masculinity"! That's not something I've ever felt the need to do, and my wife hates beards. I've had a shaved head the past 6 years. I want my long girly hair back! ;)

Man... I had a project to do something like this hacking up a standing portable desk and an ergo bike for the longest time. Only I imagined using one of those exercise bikes with backrest instead.
Never went with it because those bikes are super expensive (nice ones at least), too much money to pay for something that I'd be experimentally hacking apart.
I know you guys don't usually do these, but is there a way to follow your progress on this one James? I wanna know if you are still keeping at it, and your opinions about it say... 3 months in. xD

Good idea. I'll set myself a reminder and see where I am in 3-6 months.
