Well done chaps, for reminding the world of You Tubers of the Integrity, Sincerity and Honesty of these Classic Land Rovers doing what they do best in their outdoor wilderness environment. I respect more than anything else seeing the Spare Wheel Mounted on the bonnet where it should be. Once you have Land Rover in your Blood - you are infected for the rest of your Life, I am testament to that at 67 years old. I have been around with Land Rover since I was 15. I really appreciate seeing you driving sensibly with respect to the limitations that 4 Wheel Drive accords to you. Clearly you understand - "You cannot apply Traction, where Traction cannot be applied". Here is a suggestion - you have a great opportunity to be organizing some maintenance of those washed out trails, all you guys need is a 4 Wheel Drive Midi / Mini Backhoe Digger to load some of the stone from the river and some 1 ton Builders Bags and a team of Land Rovers shuttling up and down. For a couple of weekends of effort, you could invite along some volunteers as some "manual labour" who have'nt seen or been any where near the wilderness, who may well be inspired to become Land Rover Owners ! Sadly it is my view that the Jaguar Land Rover company has seriously lost its way after the production of the Classic 2 Door Range Rover and again since around 2003 / 05. I have to say I wouldnt accept one their vehicle now, after that date, even as gift !
Thanks a lot my friend! Enjoyed reading this very much. Maintenance of some trails is often done for us as some of them are actually paper roads! I find driving on them is the best way to keep them up haha. Happy New year to you!
And a Very Happy New Year to you and your family and of course your Land Rover Friends. In my head, from my experience with these Land Rovers there is no greater feeling of the confidence that the Land Rover accords to you, as a Pioneer, ie 1st when driving over Open Terrain / Natural Un-driven Trail. Never forgetting, that all that there was available, prior to the Land Rover was a normal 2WD Car, but mostly Horses and a Cart to move stuff / families around, outside of the Towns / Cities ! People today, forget that fact . The arrival of the Land Rovers into New Zealand / Australia was Outrageously / Scandalously let down, with a thoroughly poor Parts / Servicing infrastructure. Where any of those trails are Washed Out / Rutted, you must organise some maintenance that will facilitate getting out there, for winter camping done as it was with the first Pioneers. Looking forward to hearing from you. @@foldinthemap
Hi and greetings from Ireland What a fabulous trip you had the 108 dond like sharp bends i have same problem ,what was temperature at night looks good in daytimes but nights could be very cold i bet.happy Xmas to you and all the landy fans out there keep safe everyone.
Great vid team. We are progressing a Forward Control build. And I have similar goals of mission, with recording. But way more amateur and probably private. With a little hunting mixed in. There will be a vintage theme. Always enjoy your colour contrast choice. Would love to hear how you do that.
Epic! Forward controls are so cool. The main thing I try and do is match the drone, big camera and GoPro footage to each other first, which can take a lot to get them all looking the same. Shoot everything in log or as flat a colour profile as possible and then go for warmer tones with less saturation and less contrast. I also muck about with the colour curves to make an overall look that gets slapped on top of the matched clips. Glad you like it I do put heaps of time into this and don’t always nail it but hey, always learning!
Only in a Series Land Rover it's just simply a way of life. Both my Series 1 and my Series 2A are still running strong after all the years. They've never let me down, and have always brought me home, under their own power.
Sounds like a good pair of legends. Can’t say the same for mine haha but hopefully soon it will be that reliable! Post engine rebuild things are looking up.
Nice to see you guys back, or was it me that was gone??? Nice video once again, nice narrative, from a purist Landy Nutcase in Sunny South Africa... 🇿🇦
Cheers! Thanks for the comment. Mostly this was shot on the Sony a7siii and the GoPro was used for all the pov driving shots as well as some of the footage of the scree slope. Whenever a camera is mounted on the outside of a vehicle it’s the go pro. Drone shots were done using a Mavic air 2s
Agreed. Yes and no, there was deep ruts that the 130 sailed over like they weren’t there and had me almost tipping over. They both have their advantages and disadvantages… I think Phil’s back came off better then mine though 😂
Love your work - nice to hear a kiwi voice. It was amusing to me for some reason to hear the playful serious Hollywood voiceover at the beginning. Thanks for sharing the stunning imagery from home. Looking forward to bringing my non-purist bastard child of a defender there when I eventually return.
The way your 109 just walked up that hill looked so effortless it was comical. I can’t quite get my head around why these old buggies are so good off road. But they just are! My 88” has 16” 109 rims on it and it just rolls over anything. I love my wife’s Jeep JKU, but my old series 2A makes me smile every time. Awesome video! Beautiful country! Much thanks for putting this out.🙏
@@calsurflance5598 haha I feel the same way! I actually have short wheel base rims on my truck atm but I'm about to set that right! putting the correct ones on this month. I think it will make it a lot less tippy.
@@foldinthemap You sure? The one on your bonnet looks like an early 5.5" with the width going in towards the body. I have the same on my 1966 88". Swb rims were only 5" for 6.00 and 6.50x16 tyres. I don't think those big toyos would fit well on 5" rims!
Here's hoping Father Christmas leaves you a few Lucas and Britpart spares under the tree.
Nice video, lads.
Cheers
If we’re really lucky some bearmarch old stock 😅 cheers! Merry Christmas 🙏🏼
Great video. I just love your eloquent voice over prose.
Cheers Steve! Means a lot 🙏🏼

What an amazing trip mate!
Love the intro 😜
Thanks mate! Features a few outrageous characters eh ❤

Glad to have you back! We have had a little break but there will be videos out every month this year without fail!
Love this! Thanks for sharing your adventures. Keen to know how much of this is filmed on the hero 11 vs other camera? Or is it all GoPro?

so which Go-Pro is it then ?????
Hero 11 my man
I love the real Land Rovers, not the luxury nonsense they build now. Is the LR Defender better than the series or not?
Agreed. Yes and no, there was deep ruts that the 130 sailed over like they weren’t there and had me almost tipping over. They both have their advantages and disadvantages… I think Phil’s back came off better then mine though 😂
YES THE109 Has always been my choice over the 130 too long and the shortys too short
Agreed, I’ve heard many attest to the fact that 109’s roll over things that 88’s bounce over… throwing the occupants noggins into the ceiling
Lucas GEt home before dark
Prince of darkness
Needs a deeper voiceover talent.
Should have used auto tune eh
