Found an old VHS tape of my of my late wife and I going on our a road trip for our first anniversary in 1995. This song was playing on the car radio. I listened amazed. How did I get by without her? It fit so well. Losing her 28 years later I don’t know how I will get by without her
it's one thing if you're a John Waite fan and you like this song. But this should have been a mainstream top 40 hit. I guess it just had no promotion. It's up there with his other hit singles....
This is such a beautiful song. My favorite JW song. I can listen to it over and over again. And the video is so simple and beautiful. I love his voice.❤❤❤
How many times I've listened to this song and to the whole Temple Bar album, hundreds of times. Often while driving, on holidays or ... not. John Waite has got this special texture in his voice that makes it so pleasant. He should have achieved much more success with this album and the two next.
Yes it's a Great Album if you Love ❤ John Waite's Vocals!❤ I've followed Him since the Baby's to His number # 1 Solo career of Missing You! To The Great Bad English ❤ group & line up.I bought Temple Bar CD in 1995, Memorized the songs & Sang them at Karaoke 🎤 ❤
I believe that this is one of the greatest love songs ever written. Beautifully performed by the wonderful John Waite. Fantastic job on the video! Thank You.
I agree re the music and thoughtful interviews. I have listened to a lot of John Waite interviews and no matter the questions or how skilled the interviewer is, he always answers with grace and intelligence. Not many artists would say they are back in the moment the songs were conceived when they perform them up to forty years later, or that performing with a band when it all clicks into place is close to a religious experience. A true artist who eschewed the corporate dollar for musical integrity ( and I still love Bad English and wish they'd released more music).
I have found it to be a love song written to divine love after much of life is lived. Then it could also be divine love writing a love song when we discover it. Beautiful. Love John Waite!
One of the stations in my small college town played all the "cheesy" love songs and one night they played this. I was changed after hearing it and so many years later its still a favorite.
I have always liked this song, since I first heard it. I never knew it was filmed in winter, following a snowstorm, on a roof. The video direction in this is great, fabulous images captured that make this video really stand out. I have to admire the coat, too. It is great. The buttons really make that coat unique. I love pieces of clothing that have small details that stand out. The smallest things catch my eye. Thanks for sharing this video. It is lovely.

Some time in 2005 I was in Las Vegas at a cafe/restaurant on the strip on a Sunday morning/early afternoon. It was 'bloody mary bar' time. As I'm sitting at my table, I had a view of the bar and its patrons. I noticed three ladies walked in and wanted to sit at the bar, but there wasn't 3 seats together. So, I watched them, as one leaned over to a patron and asked him if he'd be so kind to move over so they could all sit together. He obliged. That 'patron'? John Waite. Earlier, I had just gotten my photo taken with him. There he was; just sitting there, the day after his gig in Vegas - all alone, enjoying a beverage. There I am, my jaw almost hitting the floor. He left soon after the ladies got their drinks. I couldn't help myself, as I was leaving, I just had to go up to them and say 'Do you know who you were sitting next to?'. Yeah, they were floored.
Michael Good incredible story of John. I've always loved his music. Think he's so under rated as a singer and artist. Have yet to meet him, one day, I hope. ❤❤

John Waite spoke once on how he would unwind at the end of the day at the Temple Bar for a glass of wine. The old man at the bowery he spoke of on " Downtown ". I still believe the wrong songs got released but I did enjoy the Glittering Prize.
Returning to rededicate this Song to Melissa. My pretty Doll that became my Wife. There is no ring on my finger. Couldn't believe that I would lose it at my job. But that really doesn't matter because it's around my heart. As a Christian im not supposed to let my heart control me. So I ask God in Jesus name to have mercy on me and please let me join her in Heaven.

My appreciation of John began with the Baby's. I watched them on Dick Clark's show on T.V when I was a kid. They played with absolute confidence.

Eleanor Rigby You got that right hands down. You know, that John Waite has such a unique if I may say, or soulful sounding voice. I'm sure you agree.
+unhooked25 , I do agree. Combined with these lyrics (and I'm a lyric person), this is so incredibly romantic.
As soon as I hear the opening cord I get all of the feelings! This song will forever be a favorite of mine!
Getting married in August 2018 and this is our first song. Thanks JW!!!

+Michael Good Thanks for the John Waite story, much enjoyed reading it. I met Tom Scholz of Boston once and it was amazing.
This is a great story and of a piece with the other comments on You Tube and elsewhere by people who have met or seen him in person.

Unbelievable song! 😊
I have to learn this for karaoke ... I can sing "Missing You" !
He has such a great voice !
He sure does Hun
There was a time
When I thought I knew
Everything about
This great big world
Until I met you
Into my life
Like a brand new sun
Now I find my home
Inside your eyes
Wherever you are
It's hard to say it
Cause I hide things so good
But you make me say it
Like only you could
I love you
More than any man could ever say
I need you
Baby let me count the ways
And I'll be here
I believe in everything you do
So how did I get by without you
For the longest time
Playing games of solitaire
Taking my wine
But now I'm with you baby
And I can dream out loud
You're as pretty as a picture
And you make me so proud
It's hard to say it
Cause I hide things so good
But you make me say it
Like only you could
I love you
More than any man could ever say
I need you
Baby let me count the ways
And I'll be here
There? s nothing in this world I couldn't do
So how did I get by without you
You love me
Now I know that I'm the lucky guy
You've got me
And there's nowhere I can hide
So I'll be here
I believe that all my dreams came true
So how did I get by without you
In the morning light
To see you wake up next to me
It? s a beautiful sight
Now everything's alright
Yeah
I love you
More than any words could ever say
I need you
Baby let me count the ways
And I'll be here
I believe in everything you do
So how did I get by without you
You love me
Now I know that I'm the lucky guy
You've got me
And there's nowhere I can hide
So I'll stay here
I believe in everything you do
So how did I get by without you
How did I get by
How did I get by without you in my world
How did I get by without you as my girl
You're beautiful
Beautiful
So how did I get by without you
Without you
Without you

Would have been a huge hit in the 80s but his record company folded right after this album was released so it didn't get promoted. Great song!
This must've flopped sales wise. But wow, so beautiful. This is how I felt about a lady in the 90s. And she never knew

Maybe romantic songs are only real when you pay for them.
