What you said about stand-up comedians is so true! I remember when I was one of those fashion student dressers backstage at some fashion awards show in the late 1980's and the MC was a very famous local comedienne, whom I saw bring the house down with her hilarious shtick on 'fashion and the Aussie male' ... but I'll never forget how miserable she looked backstage before AND after she went on stage. I had never seen someone so sad and dejected in my whole life. Several years later she did come out publicly about her chronic depression, and it was around thew same time you saw other big comedians going through similar struggles. I know we are wildly generalizing here, but the psychological make-up of a comedian is quite fascinating because of that... And on another note, being someone myself who also has to sell stuff he doesn't want to out of necessity, I feel your pain. (Man, you have no idea how much I feel it! It may be for different reasons, and under different circumstances, and I am trying to get myself 'excited' over the prospect, but if I'm really honest with myself, all I feel is dread. And I don't want to!) I can also relate so much about what you said about the 'hustling' one had to do in the fashion industry. That never suited me at all. I was the happiest when I was working with my tight-knit teams at the few magazines I had long-term contracts with, but all the other hustling I had to do outside of that dealing with agents and what-not, I HATED. (Not that I love or even LIKE my current job any better, but that's another story for another day.)
I mean this in the best way possible since I struggle with it as well, but it seems like you sort out what you want to sell and then keep it away where you can't see it and put it off because you don't really want to part with it yet. You definitely wanna give yourself the space to do that so you don't go on a big regret-fueled shopping spree, but it's also incredibly frustrating to feel like you want to make progress but can't. I don't know how helpful this is for you, but something that has helped me a lot with my dolls when I get stuck is rotating them out and also making them as visible as I can. When you're more inclined to buy too much and hoard, you sort of lose object permanence. Out of sight, out of mind. Maybe swap out your display for a bit and then put all of the stuff you want to sell in clear containers that are as out in the open as possible. The more you're exposed to it, the more time you have to really think about it and to say goodbye (giving yourself a moment to thank them and to literally say goodbye helps alleviate a lot of that stress as well). Likewise, the more time you spend away from the stuff you like the most, the more satisfied you become with it once it's back and you feel less of a need to fill the void. All of that is a process though and like I said I'm still dealing with it. So I hope we can both get through it.😭
at this point, i don't have any problem saying goodbye and it is very clear to me what means the most to me... but i really just hate listing things on ebay. that being said, recently something has clicked and i have found the mindset to make it more enjoyable. i am now on a roll! :)
@@jasonchipmanhowlett Awesome, that's great to hear! There's always dumping stuff off at the thrift store, but that never feels very right with collections.
Everything looks great in your apartment Jason! I truly relate to you here and am glad you made this video. Surprisingly I found that you and I have a lot of similarities. Thank you for making this video
Jason your mind may work differently, but that doesn't mean you can't succeed in life. You seem very positive. I believe things are gonna work out for u. I thought I was the only one who rinses out the containers before recycling them. Those halloween plushies on the bed are too cute. My favorite video of yours is the one where u & Luke were staying at the hotel. You were eating the bread with the sprouts, green apple, carrots, & dark chocolate bar. You told Luke he couldn't have any chocolate. Lol. enjoyed
