Amazing analysis of the VFX of the show.

As someone with no artistic talent, this is fascinating. The comparisons are very educational.

Nice work on the landing! Clearly the vfx folks for this show never watched the prequels, where you see so many ship landings that any casual viewer should know how to add weight to a ship 😂

Was the original noticeable if I hadn't mentioned it? I was curious how obvious this was (or wasn't) to casual viewers.

The linear motion may have been a subliminal trigger, but what actually screamed FAKE to me was that it had no wobble in its final moments and that the ship stayed completely level but the ground is anything but. My mind went first to the Klingon bird of prey landing in Star Trek III as being more realistic despite the compositing being a little rough (between ground/dust/ship) because there it at least does a little wobble/rotation/reaction to the thruster blasts hitting the ground - 1984. But heck, Empire did it better in 1980 with the Falcon landing in cloud city!

I fly and funny you caught that little bump I saw it too. It looked really windy up there for sure it's possible that was the best take of several. If they were flying the Inspire 3 those drones have what is called 3D Dolly that records a drone shot and repeats the flight again for blocking and action shots. I am enjoying these breakdowns and as a creative itching to try something new such as 3D animation with no back ground other than film and commercial stills where would I even begin? Should I learn basic code or lean towards a specific software program?

    • @kneepayne
      @kneepayne  5 месяцев назад +1

Blender and Unreal. Honestly. I personally think that learning some basics in scripting in either program can get you a long ways. You'd be surprised how many seasoned professionals CAN NOT write a single line of code. And if you're not a good programmer, if you can do some basic scripting that can go a long way in the interviewing and screening process. That is sort of how I got my foot in the door.
But also, if you are talented and produce good enough work you do not have to code either. But I always advocate for learning something new.

Hello kneepayne, another great and informative video to watch. There were some shots in the show that I also liked, which you pointed out, such as the LOTR like depth shot and the red light of the saber between Osha and Qimir. There were also some shots that looked off for me and I found many scenes to be quite dark. I completely agree with you about Coruscant looking quite bare. It was interesting to learn abut instance geometry to particles and the effect of fog for volume. I really liked how you modified the landing of the ship which looked more natural. I didn’t notice the drone wobble.
I also would have liked to see more of Kelnacca’s life. I also didn’t understand why the older padawans trained with sticks. I guess Leslye Hedland wanted to emphasize the martial arts side of things.
In this episode, I felt nothing much happened and it confused me . There was a lot of of walking and inane dialogue. It came across as flat, clunky and poorly executed. Mae was so wishy washy, changing her mind quickly, 180 degrees style. The character development for her was so poor with such sloppy writing. The cliff hanger was so anticlimactic for me. The stranger didn’t comes across as menacing to me, floating like Mary Poppins. I don’t think that Ki Adi Mundi’s species had a very long life span?

lol yeah the Mary Poppins thing was a bit jarring the first time I saw it. I feel like the trailing sticks was to save money on VFX but with 180 million, why? That’s something like $600k per minute

When I finished watching the last episode, I no longer engaged with anything relating to The Acolyte series. Aside, I admit, for responding to one twitter post that posited the showrunner and two of the actors 'deserved better' after the show's cancellation. I think they did just fine given what they were given.
Anyway, I went against my decision not to engage with anything Acolyte to watch this and I'm glad I did.
I really appreciate the different angle of analysis you discuss.
Creators laughed, or disagreed with, or were otherwise unimpressed by the way the bad guy floated down behind Osha towards the end of the episode, like a ghost. I quite liked the use of stealth and the little nod to horror. I thought it was pretty effective and aligns with a Sith manipulation.
I also didn't mind the the last scene, with the big force push at the end.
    - NO SPOILERS -
I'm not sure if you've seen the next episode; I take issue with how the next episode picks up given how this one ended...
I'll wait to see that video.

I have seen the whole series. These reviews take awhile to put together. It's to easy to rage post right after an episode airs. I take time to think about it. I know immediately whether I liked it or not, but I take a lot more time to think about what I am going to talk about. Also have to fit this in around my adulting. So it takes time

@@kneepayneOh ok. Well in that case, I was expecting the opening of the next episode to be everyone enveloped in a dust cloud. From Sol's pov, he's tryna help but all he can see is distant lightsaber flashes as each of the red shirts are found and killed... Maybe Jeckie finds Sol and then the bad guy bursts out of the dust cloud and they have their duel.
I think it could've been done artfully.
But instead, Sol just not being there and Jeckie or Osha, coming to, mid fight like she's been unconscious... I didn't like it and I think it's because, either it's a continuity error or the force push didn't make much sense. Because the bad guy is immediately engaged with the majority of the party so what's the point?
Anyway, I realise this is probably not something you'd usually discuss in your videos, this was just meant to explain my issue with the ending of this episode and the beginning of the next.

I never watched the show, just watched people's reviews and the clips they would put in reviews... the training montages using wooden sticks or staffs really did annoy me. They clearly did it to save money.

I felt the training sticks was to cheap out on VFX, though with a 180million budget.... (just sayin')
