One other thing to consider on the options that have become available to Ukraine is to attack the critical reliance on rail transport by the Russian military. Ukraine can cut off rail lines supplying Russian offensives further south, and it brings their artillery closer to target other rail lines further east and deeper in Russia that can flow material southward.
If Ukraine had more manpower, it could also use this force as a blocking force while it deploys other forces to “roll” the Russians southward on their right flank. This would bypass the prepared defenses that the Russians have built up all along the front. This would be far preferable to sending what few troops Ukraine has directly into the prepared Russian defenses.

It's an embarrassment, humiliation and a mounting challenge for Putin. The war he started was getting nowhere earlier but is getting out of control now. The offensive operation has turned into a defensive one. By taking over kursk it's a major political victory for zelensky which will lend him an upper hand in the ceasefire talks and post war arrangement between the two nations. Kursk also has a historical and symbolic value. It was the battle in the above mentioned city that the Soviets defeated Nazis and Putin led the celebrations of WW2 victory here last year. The West is happy and egging kyiv, Moscow suffers a setback and the global South is dismayed, frustrated and agitated at the continuation of what it calls "the war of the rich world" that is having economic ramifications for them.

There was a huge "Tractor" factory in Stalingrad that was originally constructed under Stalin's "First 5 Year Plan" by International Harvester in the 1930s. This "Fordism based" facility was capable of both producing new T-34 tanks and also quickly "repairing" older ones with extensive battle damage brought to it from the "nearby front". The Heer had to ship their own seriously damaged tanks all the way back to Germany where skilled specialists were tasked with determining their ultimate fate.

As a European (Swedish), I found this a fair and balanced report and summary. That made me happy, as the little I've learned of reporting from India, it has been very unbalanced in favour of Russia. Something I frankly find very strange, as this completely unprovoked invasion by Russia on Ukraine is probably one of the most clear-cut cases of right and wrong. Borders were agreed and internationally recognized since 1991.
And of course the much smaller country Ukraine would never pose any serious security threat to Russia. Ukraine had even extended the lease to Russia of the Crimean naval base in Sevastopol (to 2047 I believe) - yet Russia in spite of this occupied Crimea. Which now seems a very bad strategic choice, as is pointed out in this video, Russia has now instead been forced to completely evacuate it's navy from there, following the sinking of some 30% of the Russian Black Sea navy.
This is a very, very sad war, where the Russian Putin regime has turned the Ukranian brother people into enemies of Russia for generations to come. For no good reason at all, except wanting to restore the Soviet / Russian empire. There were no cultural, ethnic, religous or security conflicts motivating an invasion. (Even Ukranian President Zelensky was borne in a Russian speaking home. Many Ukranian soldiers even communicate in Russian language on the battlefield.)
If Russia is internationally aknowlidged to be allowed to keep Ukranian territory, it would open a whole can of worms. The risks of countries going to war onto eachother, to actually expand their territories would increase.

It's same as US first asking to act the way they want and when the vassal country doesn't complies, they topple the government and place their own pawns. I don't understand what's so confusing here for you. Ukraine is an ant being crushed to fuel American arms industries and Russia's ego to control its border.
If Zelensky is so hellbent to align itself with western bloc he should've thought about Crimea. He can't ignore Russia and put her concerns aside. The war has cracked open the Nato alliance, how Nato with all its sanctions, military supplies etc is enable to bring down Russia on its feet and how west is so vulnerable without US. It took just one statement from Trump for them to realise how US can ditch its allies for money and EU needs to do more for its security.
Anyways my point here is if Zelensky wanted peace he would've never wanted to join Nato and again if he really wanted peace in Ukraine he should've invited Russia in peace talks that was held recently.

Sir, you need to update your knowledge on Russian accomplishments in Ukraine. The war has been lost by Ukraine and won by Russia. Russia did not fight Ukraine, it fought the entire NATO. Further, Global South is a major term of geopolitical reference. Its alternately called the Global Majority. You may not like it, but it reflects reality. Lastly, the world accepted the seizure of Crimea almost a decade ago....again, your cold war era thinking is showing poorly.

    • @andersgrassman6583
      @andersgrassman6583 26 дней назад

What a load of BS! Even if Russia somehow would get to keep some Ukranian territory, Russia will remain a poor man's country at least for two generations to come. Also the border with NATO has doubled in length with Finland (and Sweden) having joined. All of NATO is also spending more on military - something Russia simply can not match. It's plain impossible. NATO countries have some 30-40 times (!) the size of the economy of Russia. Putin is one of the worst rulers of Russian history.
Russian navy has completely evacuated from Crimea... after Ukraine first having sunk 30% of the Black sea fleet.
This is the damage so far to Russia, that Putin has "accomplished", and the war hasn't ended yet...

A very important question that has not been addressed is the question of what are the strategic Russian objectives.
I suggest that the immediate Russian objective is the attrition of Ukraine’s human and material resources.
This objective can be fulfilled just as easily on the Kursk theatre as any others.
The Ukrainians cannot penetrate deeper without outrunning their supply lines.
They are therefore left with two objectives. Withdrawal to preserve their forces or remaining to await the responding Russian forces.
If they withdraw, they can preserve their human and material resources but they lose the propaganda effect of this raid.
If the Ukrainians dig in, they are just going to get pounded in situ once the Russian air power and artillery comes into play and the troops will just be sacrificed for nothing.
In the mean, Russians are still attacking on other fronts and the a Ukrainians are still losing men and material.
I therefore suggest that in the greater scheme of things, this Kursk raid while tactically brilliant, is likely to have as much effect as the Battle of the Bulge.
