    The hair fibre that sheds is definitely polypropylene. It's what I mean when I say this fibre "rots" as it breaks down and why I nervously look at the current slate of Mattel dolls using it as they're all on limited time, no matter how nicely someone can take care of it....

    • @xCanadensis
      @xCanadensis  Год назад +8

      I would agree 100% that it’s poly but it’s hard to explain… it doesn’t shed like poly does. G3 super long hair Rainbow Flash (pink streak) and Daisy Dreams from MLP have this exact fiber and MLP g3 only used nylon in that case. It’s very odd. I think it was an issue with the dye or something. I guess it also affects this orange which I haven’t observed in MLP yet

    Sharing some love from a bioaerosol analyst who worked with mold for 7 years ❤
    In regards to mold, vinegar won't kill all species of mold, and it is a slow acting acid, taking much longer to break down the spore walls. You would have to leave them to sit in the vinegar for sometime before it works. I highly recommend peroxide, it works super well and you can end up removing stains with peroxide as well. Be warned that "mildew" isn't always just harmless spores, those dots are just the hyphae and structures that the spores grew on. And spores aren't dead necessarily just because they haven't been near water. Spores can stay dormant for a long time lol I highly recommend, that if you truly want to make sure spores are 'dead' peroxide will be your friend 🥰

    • @xCanadensis

      I'll re-treat them with peroxide- thank you so much! My area of specialization in biology is well. invertebrate paleontology so I am clueless with this sort of thing ahaha... I had to treat household mold back in New York and heard vinegar was a good call.
      Hydrogen peroxide and UV also can magically restore vinyl and plastic to its original colors after sunfading so I've been planning to buy quite a bit for a while :)

      @xCanadensis Lol mold was a huge passion of mine for so long so I managed to keep a few special tidbits tucked away in my brain 😆 Peroxide takes mere minutes to kill spores, and while vinegar works, it could take up to an hour or more 😅 That's just to say that in a pinch, vinegar will work but if you have peroxide, it would give you faster results 🤗 Lol and please, please, for anyone reading this, don't use bleach lol it doesn't kill mold, it just makes it bleached lol and thank you for responding Brooke, I didn't want to sound too know-it-all-y lol just wanted to offer up some suggestions for next time 💜 Sending love from Michigan 🥰

      You didn't at all- I really had no idea! Luckily I did leave them in that vinegar for quite a long time but I should have done more research. Thanks so, so much! I'm hoping to do a series on stain removal and sunfading specifically at.. some point.. so peroxide will be around to do a follow-up to this to explain better about treating mold thanks to you :)

Ever since the pandemic I’ve been scared of thrifting for health reasons but man this makes me want to go to my local thrift store and find some vintage toys and restore them… this video was so calming on a horrible day, thank you for recording your process it was so fascinating!!

    I loveee when you share videos about this line, I have a couple of these dolls still from when I was a kid and it's so cool that there's content about them available, you introduced me to the name of them because I had no idea what they were called until you made a video about them! I live in Australia and my mum bought these for me from The Reject Store and I was OBSESSED with them and have such magical memories of using the pellet in their tails through the bathtub. I wish there was more information about them out there, my remaining dolls are so well loved their hair is absolutely matted but I could never let them go, they've brought me too much joy. 🧜‍♀️🧜‍♀️🧜‍♀️

    I think brushes like that are for bog dogs with really thick fur. So it doesn't hurt them because because their fur is so thick it never touches their skin. I think if you are going to use a brush like that you should get a much smaller one. It will probably be easier to use and not cut up your hand.

    Ohh I loved them as a child. My sister and I saved our pocket money for them. There was only one store in our city that had them. My fovorite was the princess one with the dolphin that could swim with it's tail in the bathtub and my sister's favorite was the bride one with the two baby twins. We also had two or three Playset. A castle one, a ferris wheel one and a shell shower, which could also have been part of one of the other sets. In germany the color tablets where from a company named Tinti which makes bath color things for kids. So many beautiful memories. Thank you for reminding me of them! 🥰

    • @xCanadensis
      @xCanadensis  Год назад +8

      I don’t know anything about them but it freaks me out that it sliced up my hand so badly. I imagine it has a use (long haired dog makes sense) but I imagine using it on a cat or a short haired dog would hurt :( I’m glad it has an actual purpose! Sorry if that came off like I was acting like an expert I was trying to ask what the use actually was 😅
