Great and informative video as always :) Just a fun fact to save yourself the headache of the washer fluid connector, the black retainer doesn't need to be removed all the way. Half way and the connector will come out.
That's not just a fun fact, Joshua. For someone that could mean saving their eyesight from it springing into their eyeball! I'm sure I'll install another one sometime and will have to use that trick. Thanks!
Companies should really pay you to do installation videos for their products! Very informative and easy to follow. Just bought a Mk7 GTI and your videos have been super helpful.
This is the best spoiler extension install guide on RUclips and I've watched all After watching this video, it literally took me 20 mins to install it because I knew what to look for
Installed it today. Your video was spot on. I found that Windex when cutting the glue worked so much better than without. I sprayed some on my knife and went so fast after finally do that.
Just wanted to say thanks for making this video. Very detailed and informative. I just recently bought my mk7.5 GTI and came across the Aerofabb spoiler extension. I was curious as to what the installation entailed, and thanks to your video I'll probably be purchasing the spoiler in the near future. Keep 'em coming!
You're very welcome! Thanks for taking the time to let me know that you found this helpful! Keep your eyes peeled for something new from aerofabb coming very soon.
What an excellent video. You guys did a great job of explaining the details of an install. This video convinced me to move forward with a purchase of this spoiler.
If it has the same rear hatch spoiler as the GTI and R, then it will. I just don’t know if it also has the side spoilers that come down. Aerofabb notes that this will fit the GTI, R, and GTD.
Haha, thanks! I hope it's most people's goal to turn out with something that looks better than when they start. Plus on this one it wasn't my own car, so could you imagine how I'd feel if I goofed it up?
Love all the details you put in to this video on installing the aerofabb spoiler vs the first. Nice tips and tricks you picked up. Do you think one could just use the 3m tape, and do the installation with the spoiler on the car, without the hardware?
Thanks! If you decided to install without the bolts you'd probably want to add more 3M for the areas on the outer extents of the extension since they don't sit flush without the bolts. I've heard of some folks going with various other types of rivets or screws so they don't have to remove the spoiler, but you might risk causing damage to the part you're securing to. I highly recommend following the instructions for the best result.
@@Vaguh wouldn’t it make it easier to first pop the 4 clips on the OEM spoiler, before you cut the clue/tape on the sidewings? Instead of first cut then pop the clips and then cut again?
@@pederfree1251 Definitely worth a try, but I think cutting it first gives the spoiler more flexibility for movement to make popping the clips easier. As it is, they can be kind of stubborn. Otherwise, that butyl adhesive is holding it down tight with its Kung Fu grip.
I've done the V2 Front Splitter and the Side Splitters on my R. Check out this playlist for all other aerofabb bits I've done to my R and my buddy's GTI. ruclips.net/p/PLXAallTk1_3eyEdP71t4iHcm7NihrmOYi
I don’t think so. I believe the standard Golf has a rear spoiler that is fully integrated into the hatch and the only way to get the GTI spoiler installed is by getting the GTI, R, or E-Golf hatch.
Other than the bolts on the back.. is it really necessary to remove the whole trunk piece? Like its glued and 3m taped.. i feel like short screws that just grab the inside would also be fine. It just seems like alot of work is all. Hah
There’s some other makers of spoilers like this out there and use well nuts or screws like you’re describing. When I bought all of them and reviewed I wasn’t as happy with them as Aerofabb’s. A little more work for a much better result.
@@Vaguh ok ok.. ya i bought a maxton spoiler.. not bad. I came across this vid to get some ideas.. im thinking of making a custom plexiglass one with lights maybe in the same style.
I never had a MK7.5 specific install, but I did RE-record the install that used to be up from my MK7R. It is the same process for all Aerofabb spoiler extensions. Anyway, check out 15:20 as I think you’re wondering about my comment about not placing it totally flush against the bottom edge of the spoiler.
Crazy story, so on the highway my COMPLETE stock spoiler flew off my car.... I got a replacement spoiler, but the problem is when the spoiler flew off it ripped off the wiring that was connected to the 3rd brake light...my new spoiler has the adaptor connected to it, but I don't have what that connects to. and I can't find what exact part I need to fix this because I don't even know what was is missing.hheeelllppp
Well, that's unfortunate and pretty strange. I think your best option would be to see if a local junkyard has any Golfs that you can go cut as much of the 3rd brake light wiring and connector from to splice in to what is left on your hatch. Otherwise, contact VW to see what a rear/hatch wire harness may cost. But that would likely be a very time consuming job to replace the entire harness.

Thank you so much for this dude. Ordered a Strafe Wing Extension from ECS and go figure, no instructions. This was in mad detail. Thanks again
Interesting. I got at least a 1-pager with the Strafe one I bought for comparison. Glad you found this helpful!

Thanks for the feedback! I’m not sure how windex may change the adhesive properties, but if it worked for you that is great!
@@Vaguh It worked out fine. I heated it back up. I think Aerofab recommended the windex
in the directions if I am not mistaken.
Man.. I just want to drive over to your place and watch you install it for me LOL great video!

put mine on yesterday... thanks for the vid.

I Agree, Aerofabb does have top notch instructions and hardware compared to other products.
Everything down to the packaging and tape they use is ultra high quality. OCD packaging tactics FTW!
