I feel like you can sum up that entire difference by watching the 10 seconds after Dustin tapped out to Islam. When the entire corner jumps into the cage and dog piles on top of them. You don’t see that outside of family.
One thing I like about Uncle Chael is he'll always have an original opinion in this sport where casuals and so-called experts alike recyle and regurgitate popular ideas. UNDEFEATED ON RUclips! CHAEL P. SONNEN !
Habib and his team, Allah bless them and all, but they are almost evangelical strict with their faith. These guys are loyal to each other and share everything as equals cause they literally do not want to be sinful and selfish. Their brotherhood is very deep and religious, they keep each other honest and focused and clean.

Athletico de bilboa is a spanish professional football team that plays in La liga (spains highest level domestic league.) They ONLY field players either born in or raised in the small town of bilbao. They have never been relegated in over 100 years of professional competition. They consistently outplay multi-billion dollar mega clubs across Europe. Just one example uncle Cheal.
There is an example of a team, it is in soccer in Spain it's called Athletic Club de Bilbao (from the city of Bilbao). Whilst all soccer teams in Spain have academies were kids as young as 10 are taught the game and go through the system until professional, Atlético is different in that they only play (even at a professional level) kids from the Vasque Region of Spain (2 million people in total), 99% of all their professional players come from their academy and vary rarely do they transfer in Vasque players from other teams. Despite only using their homegrown talent they have won championships and have never been relegated to lower divisions (in the history of Spanish soccer only three teams have never been relegated, Barcelona and Real MAdrid are the other two).
Yeah lower level football teams are proper teams like you have in highschool and college, once you get to the top or second top level leagues it's all business.
I assumed you’re talking about professional sports, but I will say that my high school football team was certainly a team, and I’m sure a lot of other ones are like that too.
I would say its a family or brotherhood, its more than a team. They look out for each other and they want to each other to be successful. There's no ego, where someone is more important than the other person. Plus kahbib pushes them very hard. He's tough when needed and a supportive brother when needed. Teams argue, teams split up, and have jealousy. They are more like a family or brotherhood. Not one man is more important than the other man. The push each other and the are genuinely happy when the other brother has success. That's family, not a team.
The closest i can think of is back in either the late 80s or early 90s the Penrith Panthers (rugby league team) won the NRL grand final here in Australia. The thing that made this special is either all or most of them, i cant remember which, all went to school together and grew up together. They beat a team of virtual all stars called the canberra raiders who were a very rich club who had bought players from all over Australia and even from england. Well thats how i remember it anyway. I remember they were very close and tragically in the off season one of them died in a car accident. They were never the same and it all kindve fell apart after that. Nothing like the sustained success of the Dagastanis thats for sure but its about the only example i could think of to answer Chaels question. Love em or hate em we all love loyalty so hats of to Khabib and his boys. I know im not the only one who respects them and their story.
KHABIB 155 CHAMPION, ISLAM 155 CHAMPION, UMAR SOON TO BE 135 CHAMPION AND USMAN BELATOR 155 CHAMPION, 4 BOYS RAISED FROM CHILDHOOD BY ONE COACH ABDULMANAP AND CONQURED THE MMA WORLD!! ABDULMANAP IS THE GREATEST COACH OF ALL-TIME RAISING 4 KINGS FROM BIRTH INTO CHAMPIONS WITH AMAZING RESPECT AND HUMILITY AS WELL 👑👑👑👑
Abdulmanap alsp formed and trained many kids from his village to become world champions in sambo, judo muy thai and freestyle wrestling Olympic champions too. Helso has first mma champion in history to retire undefeated Plus fun fact : khabib and Islam also happens to be the only two guys to dethrone an active jon jones from the p4p number 1 spot, even legends like gsp, dj couldn't take the p4p king seat from jones when he was active and not in suspension for something,
This is like the argument that a table is made up of empty space because atoms are just electrons orbiting a nucleus. If you drill down hard enough on anything it invalidates it. That's not a picture it is a bunch of pixels. That's not actually a person it's just a clump of cells. The team is made of people acting like a team. The behaviors determine the quality of the team. If the people choose to be a team they are a team.
Yeah he is wrong on this take but he does have a point, that what we are currelnt calling "team" are not actually teams (including Khabib's). And he is also correct that Khabib's "team" is kinda unique and special, I dont know many of such examples tbh, but there are some out there for sure
Dear Chael, football teams around the world have their own academies. From a very young age children learn to work together with their teammates. That's why the feeling of belonging is so strong in football.
Chanel has this point of view probably because wrestling isn’t really a team sport. But the kids who step on the field, the court, the ice, whatever, know what a team is. It’s who you struggle with toward a common goal and you win or lose together.
I mean I highly doubt Uncle Chael is "working with Saban everyday" but I'll take "See him on ESPN campus everyday". Picking the greatest College Football coach and saying he's non-creditable as a coach bc he didn't play the game?
I've always believed this as I came from a wrestling background. When I transitioned to mma I made it very clear at the time that if if it came down to it I would fight anyone in the room in my weight class. As a wrestler you have to defend your spot every week before a meet. If you lose then you sit the week out. If you win then you're the one that wrestles that weight class for the week in the meet. So I have no love for my "teammates" because if I can't beat you then I don't get to compete. It is what it is week by week.🤷🏾♂️
Can we also discuss how Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia fight cards are slowing down/ delaying the UFC 's woman's fights, locations, and dates. I've done my research when it comes to this topic and this is becoming an issue. The financial push that the middle East venues gives men's mma is enormous
Why are we missing the obvious answer to this question? The Little League World Series is 100% played by kids who live in the same city. No $$$ incentive whatsoever. Every year they play to see who is the best team and each team plays another team from a different city. This goes all the way up to the top 2 teams in the world. What do I win for answering. A Captain Obvious Trophy?
I would say they're family or it's a brotherhood more than a team. Teams argue, split up and have too much jealousy. They are more like a family. Not one person is more important than another.
Lol, their the best team in the world because you say their the only team in the world...can't come in second if'n there's no one to play against.... Classic
You re right their relationship is beyond sport it's real brotherhood. Look how Islam sacrifice to let khabib be the champion and wait untill he stepdown purposely to let Islam be champion and help him with money and teaching and all means to broke his own records and at the same time they keep Usman in Bellator as champion in the same division as Islam and will never come to UFC to he will never compete against his brother Islam and I am sure when is lam retired they will bring Usman to UFC. What a beauty to see this example of loyalty and brotherhood in a world lacking of real brotherhood principles. May Allah bless them.
I can just see all the Khabib haters having a meltdown right now. 😅 It’s called brotherhood. Stronger than the concept of a mere team where their ideals on how the culture of their training and discipline must align, but it is that their code in life also aligns. They will literally sacrifice their lives for other humans and moreso their brothers in faith and even moreso the brothers they grew up with. Their ideal and ambition is loftier and higher than being purchased. Their goals are not the same as everyone else’s. In this sport, money isn’t their motivation. They can’t be purchased. It’s why Khabib was able to refuse to train Elon Musk for his fantasy fight with zuck. It’s why it was easy for him to walk away from a $40 million dollar contract. He’s now sacrificing his time, getting paid nothing, to see his brothers out.
Chael, this simply isn't true; Location, Location, Location, plus geography. The region of Dagestan is isolated. Furthermore, religion plays a 99% factor here. Unless you are D.C. or Javier Mendez, if you aren't Muslim you can't be part of this geographic conglomerate. The former and letters ties to this Muslim "clique" is bizarre! 2. We just saw Umar get unanimously beaten by Merab, who by the way is from that region, but not Muslim. So, Merab, Arman, Illia , to a certain extent cannot be part of this Islamic "clique" The 3 former mentioned are christian, as well as Mendez and D.C. 3/ Chael, of course this Islamic "clique" enjoys this because of not for MMA, would.be.part of world terror. Chael, we know this is true. Again, Location: isolation, geography, and religion Chael, I keep going back Genghis with you, why are you afraid to be critical of Dagestan Fighters. Why? You are retired and damn tough The whole Dagestan thing is bizzare. There are a slough of american/ European teams, who.encompass all.religions and a close like a fraternity. So, this isn't true, non debatable.
