  • Welcome back to my workshop 😁.
    After my last SDS hammer drill purchase disaster 😫 i have opted for a new Titan TTB631SDS Plus hammer drill from Screwfix.
    This was about £80 when i brought it but i think it is now on special offer for £69.99 and worth every penny.
    I used it for hours and hours removing tiles in a kitchen. The house is about 70 years old and various owners have all tiled on top of tiles (5 layers of tiles) and they all had to be removed.
    For the price and the USEFULL functions it is worth every penny.
    I hope you enjoy the video and please like and subscribe.
    And please hit the little bell icon 🔔 so you get a little reminder when ever i bring out a new video.
    #frankslittleworkshop #toolreview #powertools
    Thanks for watching.
    Enjoy 😁👍.

    *Works as described , **MyBest.Tools** breaking out rock in my yard to install post for mailbox , fencing and trenches . We built the house on a high point that is mostly rock and this is a tool that helps for installing anything in this ground.*

    Ive now bought 2 of these, the first time I needed two holes drilling into the side of the house to get power outside, once id done it I sold it for £40 including 3 extra drill bits I bought separately, 24 hours after I asked the buyer if I could buy it back and give him £10 on top, as I felt id made a mistake, he wouldnt as he needed it for work and only having drilled 2 holes he felt he got a good bargain....."no kidding!!". It is a brute and if you were looking for another sds+ with similar power 1500w and 8 joules of impact force, you'd need to spend around £1000.
    Ive now recently bought the 2nd one, even though I have no requirements for it, but like any tool, when you need it, its great if you have it to hand even if its family, friend or neighbour asking if you have one, as some people may have a drill, not too many have an SDS+. With the 22 bit pack, its £79.99 and well worth every penny. Yes it is heavy, but its a small price to pay for having a monster of an sds.
    Also if you are doing some demolition work, as this is capable of demo work, and if you need a longer chisel or spike, you can buy on amazon 600mm long chisel and spike bit so you dont have to bend over too much when trying to remove matter. I just bought the 3 bit set for £25 www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00FW4299E/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
    Dont make the mistake of what many do, in that once you have an SDS+ drill, they cheap out on drill bits. There are reasons they are cheap, most are crap, but if you go for what is right, it will make your job so much easier, and you will have that drill bit for a long time, me personally will stick with Irwin and Bosch from now on, because they work very well and out performed everything I had.
    Irwin sds+ drill bits are incredible, im actually a DeWalt fan but the Irwins beat pretty much what there is. There is another video on here, where a guy tests a chinese cheap drill bit, DeWalt, Milwaukee and Irwin, on a commercial project, and the Irwin drill came out on top, even against the double priced Milwaukee.
    If you decide to use the standard drill chuck for normal type drill bits, then id say the bosch cyl-9 drill bits are hard to beat, I tested these against everything I have, and the bosch cyl-9 which are coloured blue beat everything I had, and they are multiconstruction so they are good on everything, they are a little bit more money, but seriously get a single one off ebay to try and pit it against the best one you have, like me you will buy the larger pack of them, I cannot rate them higher enough, I got two different packs and then bought various single ones going up to 14x250mm, simply because they killed every other drill bit I had to test them against.
    One guy on here took down a ww2 concrete bunker using one. I think for the price its worth getting those 600mm long bits, the chisel and spike, otherwise you would be bent over quite a bit. Another thing to try would be the 1000mm chisel, im still waiting on mine, and I did think if its too long, ill use a cutting disc to cut it down to the right length and then make it a spike. You dont want it too high if using it for that type of work, as it may be uncomfortable.
    The big mistake I made was selling the first, I can assure you of this, this puppy will be going no where, im glad to have one back again.

    Thank you for this video. I'd already bought this product but as a total SDS virgin, you removed the mystery surrounding this somewhat intimidating looking tool. I now feel more confident to start using it to erect some fence panels by attaching wooden posts to concrete posts. 👍

    I'd not used an SDS drill before today and maybe this is a bit 'cart before the horse' because I'm watching this review after having already purchased the same drill and tile bit you show here.
    So pleased you didn't find it a lemon.
    The reason I bought it is because I'm stripping a dot and dabbed bathroom back to breeze block and having previously done a similar job manually in a smaller en-suite, I'd hoped the SDS would save an OAP like me a little time and lot of effort.
    As an SDS newbie I've concluded that once I'd got used to the weight of the thing, the Titan requires careful handling when chiselling off the cow pats with the flat chisel blade that came with the kit if I didn't want to create significant craters in the blocks, but once familiar with the operation of the tool, I found it made life a lot easier.
    As for the additional £25 tile bit, I think I'll return it unused as I can't see it letting me separate tile and plasterboard (as required by my local tip). Maybe fine for tiles and plaster applied directly to breeze or brick, but doesn't look much use for tiled plasterboard.
    Now for the big question; the info that came with the tile bit stated that the shaft needed greasing, but I see no such advice in the Titan user guide for the included bits, so do I bother greasing the bits that came with the tool or simply not bother?

    • @frankslittleworkshop
      @frankslittleworkshop  4 года назад

      Mike, firstly, thanks so much for watching and commenting 😁👍. I think you are rite, getting tiles off of plaster board will probebly end up with a Finnish resembling the surface of the moon. So probebly only worth doing if it is going to be skimmed afterwards. As for the greasing, the more you use it... the more grease will come out (and it gets everyware). So it is best to grease it every now and then (if you want the drill to last longer). The weight is an issue but the main problem I had was pushing too hard.... just let the drill do all the work 😁. Thanks again and a Happy New year Mike 😁👍.

    • @mosfear
      @mosfear 4 года назад +1

      I found I had to push the bit against the work a little just to get the hammer action operating, hence the reason I think it's harder to control. Also, as a newbie it took a couple of minutes to realise I needed to put the SDS in drill mode in order to rotate the chisel bit to the angle I wanted before switching back to hammer only. I'm sure there are plenty of other tricks and tips in using these SDS tools so I'll just have to keep an eye out.
      Happy New Year to you too Frank.

    That's mine finally dead. ⚰️ It still runs, but the the little BB in the chuck that's supposed to move (allowing release of the bit) is stuck in the lock position.
    I can only use it for core cutting now, as that's the bit currently stuck in the chuck, but I almost never do any core cutting.

      😟 Oh no, thats a bit of a shame. Hopefully you will be able to free it off 🤔. Its probably worth trying (im sure you already have), its annoying that the bit is stuck in it. Or you could just renew the chuck and it will be just like new 😔. Either way I hope you have had your moneys worth out of it, mine has already paid for itself multiple times. Drop me another comment if you manage to get it fixed. Good luck Otto. Thanks for watching 😁 👍

      @@frankslittleworkshop As far as I can tell, the only way to repair the chuck is while it's empty.
      If it had been a straight bit that got stuck, it's possible to slip the cap, spring, circlip, and washers out to release the ball bearing. A core drilling bit is too wide for that method.
      TBH, it was the cheapest one of its kind on the market when I bought it. I might liberate the stuck bit with my angle grinder, but I'd need to be sure I can get a chuck repair kit for this model, which is always the downside of buying cheap makes. If it was a DeWalt, Bosch, Makita or Milwaukee, then there's repair kits a plenty on eBay.

    I bought one of these today intending to use it to drill some 38 mm weep holes with a diamond core bit at the base of a retaining wall, after seeing several videos on you tube of people using it for that purpose it seemed ideal. I was surprised to find however that when i opened the case, stuck to the front of the instruction book is a sticker saying that it should not be used for core drilling as it could cause serious injury. There are videos on you tube showing people using this drill to bore holes with diamond core bits of over 100 mm diameter with no problem. I will still use the drill for other things but if i had known it shouldn't be used for core drilling i think i would have bought a different drill. I noticed that in the comments there are people who have used it or intend to use it for core drilling. Do you have an opinion Frank, bearing in mind that the cores i want to drill are fairly small at 38 mm. Great video by the way

      Hi John 😁. Thanks very much for your question. I am by no means an expert but I believe a "dedicated core drill" has a different clutch mechanism, a standard SDS or SDS+ is designed for hammer and conventional drilling. The concern is with core drilling the amount of torque required is a lot greater and a higher risk of the core drill "digging in".... this drill will not allow for that and will either twist itself out of your hand.... or twist your hand off of your wrist..... in a bad way 😖. So in this case I would never use it for core drilling 🙁. As I say, I am not an expert... but I have had simular experiences... and it hurts. I hope this helps John. Stay safe mate 😁👍

      Hi, m e 😁. It is without doubt a weighty machine, but i am not the strongest person in the world and i didn't have any real problems using it for extended periods. I think the secret is to allow the tool to do all of the work 😁. If you fight against it you will suffer fatigue a lot quicker. If you are using it and it is bouncing back at you then you are pushing too hard and your arms will suffer really quickly. i hope this info helps. i still think it was great value for money and a good reliable and effective tool. Hi Shane 😁. Although it's a great bit of kit I personally wouldn't want to be using it over head height for very long, it can get a bit weighty 🤔. But I would still recommend getting one just because it is such a great tool 😁. With the money you save by not buying an expensive "Yellow one" you could buy a kick stool to stand on 😀 .. it's a win win situation 😁. Thanks for watching Shane 😁👍

    Hi, I bought this product & people keep going on about greasing it, what do you grease! Is it the gearbox or the bits, I can’t find any information anywhere & scared it’s going to seize up. If it’s the gearbox you’d think they’d make a massive point of saying DO NOT USE WITHOUT GREASE!!! or it will blow up in your face 🤷‍♂️

    • @frankslittleworkshop
      @frankslittleworkshop  3 года назад +1

      😁 Hi Andrew. To be perfectly honest with you I will probably not need to grease mine for years as I am not a heavy user. However, when it starts to look a bit thirsty I would recommend giving your bits a good clean (the end you inser in to the drill) and give then a coating of EP grease (high pressure grease) before re inserting them. Also if you have been doing dusty work just give everything a wipe and a quick spray with Wd40 before storing it away, that should make what grease is there last longer. I hope this was of some help. Thanks for watching 😁👍

    • @frankslittleworkshop
      @frankslittleworkshop  4 года назад

      Hi Tony 😁. I've just checked and I'm afraid there is no gradual control on the trigger 🙁. It appears to just be a physical "switch". So on setting 1 it will instantly go to 200 RPM. You can then vary the speed up to 750 RPM by adjusting the variable speed switch. So I suspect it may not be suitable for turning a secondary gearbox as the initial inertia is quite high 🙁. I hope this helps Tony. Thanks for watching 😁👍

    • @frankslittleworkshop
      @frankslittleworkshop  3 года назад

      Hi J 😀. Yep, normal extension lead no problem. But I would advise using the shortest lead possible. And if you use a wind up type of lead make sure you unwind it completely. A long lead will increase the overall resistance and could cause issues with fuse trips etc (it's a big subject). I hope that helps. Thanks for watching 😁👍

      @@sdsfulham 😃 Thanks so much for the sub, much appreciated 😁. What i mean by a dedicated driver is... you obviously wouldn't run a drill backwards so I assume you would want to use it to undo something. Using a dedicated driver like the Stanley fatmax FMC647B-XJ or the Dewalt Dcf899hp2 (depending on what you want to do). The internal gearbox on these units are designed specifically for undoing screws or nuts etc. I hope that helps 😁👍
