Forget what you saw in video, this is my review: I've a 2014 4Runner Limited (Magnetic grey , like one in video but with chrome step bars etc) and I LOVE it. I saw people looking with some respect, like this 'guy is tough' kinda respect when I drive the vehicle around. It sits up high and you feel safe. Re: fuel economy, if you buy a 55-60 K CAD (incl tax) SUV, who cares about fuel economy? Those all are good/advantages, now the bad side. I've a 2006 Rav 3.5 L LTD, both these vehicle has same BHP (269-rav, 270-4R) - can you believe that? That's a rocket ship on roads, can almost beat any other small SUVs. But when I drive this one, I even let Honda Civics and Corolla over take me (reason: why to compete and get failed, very slow pick up compared to my V6 Rav). But again, when you drive 4Runner, you dont care how others feel ; you just enjoy and drive it :)
It's fuel economy isn't even "terrible." It's not a small SUV by any means, and it's definitely not lacking in power. The fact that would "can" get even a little over 20mpg on the highway is acceptable haha.
I traded my 1998 Toyota 4Runner Limited 4x4 with nearly 300,000 miles on a 2018 Toyota 4Runner Limited 4x4... Great trucks and I plan on keeping this one for another 20yrs and 300,000, AMAZING vehicles
Hilarious how he said "it might be kind of gross" to watch him attempt get into the third-row. I like his honesty in this and seems fair what he said about it comparing it others. At the same time there's a reason Toyota hasn't changed this machine much, it's reliable and tough AF
Kind of disappointed in this review, this is one of the few body on frame suv's left. Give it credit. Its a 4Runner, not a prius. 18 is not bad for a true suv. I have a 2007 4Runner and i love it. His nose ia way to high in the air for this vehicle. Go get your soccer mommy vehicle and leave the 4Runner alone.
In fairness to the guy he does admit he "loves this thing". The only reason he would bring up the negatives is because he realizes he's talking to a wide variety of audiences and most likely did not want to mislead anyone who's looking for something less of a truly capable offroader and to have them come back and say this video was not well done for omitting some facts.
Very nice and practical review. Not sure about all the "hardcore off-roaders" here, but the man doesn't need to be an off-roader to appreciate the car. I think he has hit all the points that are important for me - such as 5 vs 7 seats, fuel economy, and the occasional mild harsh terrain driving. Most vehicle is about it's specific use for you and how it is appropriate for it. This is meant as the last of the kind truck frame SUV that has some nice luxuries of a family car. Unless you are a "sports enthusiast" drive or a true off-roader, you can really enjoy this review and the truck itself. It really is a good unique car that will be hard to get from another brand.
I originally gave you a bad rating but after watching more of your video, you are right on. power rear window rocks! got news for you. people who buys 4runners don't care about mpg as much.
@ 00:02 - So..... you move from Michigan to California to skip the snow you can't stand so you could dodge the bums and gangs. then hop over all of the poop and the needles that clutter the streets … What a great idea!!! Brilliant!
I love my 2012 sr5 but I should have gotten the Limited for the leather and full time 4wd option. My next purchase will be the landcruiser. I love Toyota suv's!
I have a 2020 Limited full time 4WD, and unlike you, who must keep your foot on the floor, I can pull my 3,500 lb. bass boat to the lake 18 miles away and get 17-18 MPG, all day long. Also on a 200 mile road trip on the Interstate, driving less than 75 MPH, I can get at least 21 MPG. You people who get way less than that need to rethink how you drive. As Tom Cruises once said, I have the need for speed. That must be you! Slow down big guy!
I love 4runners and I thought that was a very fair, honest and well done review I don't get all the hate. I guess unless it's just a glowing review people get all upset
1 thing that wasn't mentioned is the pulling power of the limited. Im pulled a dual axle trailer with a John Deer tractor on it and this '14 limited is not even struggling for it. I think that's where that 18.5 mpg compromise go. Its ready to pull.
Very nice review. I just got my 2015 4runner limited in blizzard pearl a few days ago with 124xxx miles after trading in a 2016 chevy cruze. Everything you described about it in your video is accurate so far. I love the thing. kinda drives like my old land rover discovery but I have a feeling it will last 100x longer.
How would you compare this to the Jeep Grand Cherokee? I'm currently an Avalon owner and like Toyota quality. Considering the 4Runner cause of its off road capability. I'll purchase most likely. Aren't they due to update it rather than a refresh? Your thoughts?
Check the dependability on the Jeeps line. My past 2009 Rubicon Wrangler was fun but too small and had weird electrical problems off and on. They would reset if you turned the engine off and then back on. If you like your Avalon, you'll love the 4Runner. My 2011 SR5 4Runner has 96K on it and still runs like a Swiss watch.
Stick with Toyota! Your repairs and cost of grand Cherokee will be equal to a Lexus. I own both grand Cherokee and Sequoia Toyota at this time so I know what I am talking about. We did have a 4 runner when we bought the Jeep - big mistake
This suv could have a 3L diesel or something similar and have great fuel economy. I don’t understand why Europe and Asia are so ahead when it comes to this.
Just bought an '11 limited with 90k miles, has 32" by 11" wide A/T tires, added heavy nerf bars and also added the roof rack crossbars and still got 19.3mpg, mostly highway but plenty of mixed use, using regular gas. Don't know what this guy's doing wrong.
I used to own a 2013 RAV4 which I hated the stupid car, the gas mileage around town was 18-19 and on Hwy was 21-22 ( sucked for a 4 cylinder)and I checked my mileage all the time just for kicks. liked my 2009 RAV4 much better sorry I got rid of it. Now I have a 2015 4Runner SR5 4x4 gas mileage is about 16-17 around town , have not taken it on a long trip so I don't know Hwy mpg yet ( only 2 weeks old) but even if it's 19-21 , I don't care I love this vehicle , I love everything about it . Before the RAV4's I always had jeeps and when I bought my first Rav my heart was crying for my jeep every day but not anymore .
It's an off-road 4x4 truck with body on frame that pretends to also be a car, rather than a car pretending to be a 4x4 truck, more suited for driving on snowy roads.
I think you missed or don't understand the 4 runner completely, the 4 liter V6 is torque driven, if you and your wife want HP you should have got the Hilander or an srt limited Cherokee, and the 3rd row is for kids!!! Quite obvious!! People buy the limited for the X reas suspension! ! Also the only SUV that actually has luggage space with the 3rd row up is a suburban! !!
thanks for the review. How do you compare the 4runner limited with the Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland? which is more capable, comfortable, and of course fuel efficient? Thanks
I think the Grand Cherokee would be more comfortable since you can get adaptive suspension and lower and raise the height of the vehicle which also improves fuel efficiency plus you can get a diesel. However the 4runner does have a trail edition and their special TRD Off road package with a real locking diff and all the goodies for off road.
I have to agree with counkev. My friend just got the 2014 GC with Overland, and it's definitely more "plush." It's definitely more focused on being a comfortable road car than capable off-road. I know most people wouldn't take either of those off road just because of their price, but if push comes to shove, I think the 4runner would outshine the Jeep in a heartbeat.
What a great review. What a good, honest reviewer. I really like this guy. Well detailed review... And ofcourse this thing would be good offroad. But it is, as he says, just like most other suv's, designed for on the road, and won't be any good for hardcore terrain. It is sad that most Americans buy these kind of cars just to ride with it around the block while many other cheaper cars are for sale with mutch better economy. You also don't need a heavy bulky car for offroad like this, because that is exactly what you don't need...
I disagree with them getting horrible fuel mileage. My 2012 Limited gets 20-22 mpg highway and towing 2 atvs easily gets 18 mpg (3500lb trailer/atv). Verses my old 99 4Runner Limited would get 17 mpg highway and a piss poor 13-14 mpg towing the same trailer/atvs. Which is why I upgraded to the 2012. I really like the updates on the 2015 Limited and am considering again on trading up. The front ends look so refined plus they have more options. The only thing I dislike is the black wheels and the fact Toyota is still running this 20" wheel as its only 7" wide. Limiting my tire options in the oem size to two tire manufactures. At least a 8" wide wheel would've been better for more tire options.
Or just move here to Texas and experience all these seasons shitty weather. 100+ heat, snow, and balls freezing ice...good pick of vehicle I would choose for a small family. Very capable, roomy yet very good overall unless you have big kids...suburban :(
18mpg? Shiit my tahoe is getting 14 max 🤣 that's mostly why I'm looking to get a 4runner. Tbh 4mpg difference isnt that much when the Tahoe gives you more room.
The Blake Channel It's "my wife and me" because he said "it doesn't bother my wife and ______" Take out "wife" would you say "it didn't bother I" or "it doesn't bother me"? That's also simple 2nd grade English, "I" is not always the right answer.
Wow, talk about a vehicle that is due for some advancement, 5 speed; sub 300 lb. ft of torque; horrible rear seat room; tragic rear storage volume; mediocre fuel mileage for the level of power and on and on...toyota, wake up here, how long can you ride the 4runner's glory days of a decade ago...certainly not on my radar...
V-8s are history. Ford is putting their "4 cylinder" Eco-boost engine in their trucks to meet fleet mileage standards. With direct injection they are having problems with cylinder carbon. The people that brought you Pearl Harbor have a much better idea. Buy a Banzai Toyota.
I hope the Toyota Gods make this UniBody and i will be the first one to buy. Yes I know it takes away from the off road capability but I am not hard core Moab rider. But i do on some intense dirt road riding that needs high clearance for MTB and hiking etc.
Reliability is the best feature of the 4Runner.
Ditto. My 2011 SR5 4Runner has 96,500 miles on it and still runs like a Swiss watch.
Forget what you saw in video, this is my review: I've a 2014 4Runner Limited (Magnetic grey , like one in video but with chrome step bars etc) and I LOVE it. Well-said! One feels a sort of superiority that we have a superior car that won’t let us down!!!
I would take bad gas mileage over poor reliability any day!
true dat!!!
Great video!
I rather spend gas, than spend so much time at Dealers mechanic.
Exactly! As high as gas prices are, people will always have the money to put some in the tank to keep driving it! LOL
It's fuel economy isn't even "terrible." It's not a small SUV by any means, and it's definitely not lacking in power. The fact that would "can" get even a little over 20mpg on the highway is acceptable haha.
Liked the honest, informative honest review. We're a 4Runner family since 96, this thing looks like a beast.
I have a 2011 4Runner Limited and still love driving it. No reliability issues here. Swapped out the skinny 20" wheels for the 17" Trail wheels.
I traded my 1998 Toyota 4Runner Limited 4x4 with nearly 300,000 miles on a 2018 Toyota 4Runner Limited 4x4... Great trucks and I plan on keeping this one for another 20yrs and 300,000, AMAZING vehicles
Jeffrey Sipes Is the Highlander as reliable ?
Yeah it doesn't get great fuel economy but it sure is gonna save you from going into the shop for repairs, that's for sure!
Hilarious how he said "it might be kind of gross" to watch him attempt get into the third-row. I like his honesty in this and seems fair what he said about it comparing it others. At the same time there's a reason Toyota hasn't changed this machine much, it's reliable and tough AF

So is ok of five people

Once again it's great that you guys are walking around and jumping in and out of the vehicle, which helps me understand its scale.
I have a 2015 limited. No complaints so far. Only regular maintenance, which I do in my garage.
Very nice and practical review. Not sure about all the "hardcore off-roaders" here, but the man doesn't need to be an off-roader to appreciate the car. I think he has hit all the points that are important for me - such as 5 vs 7 seats, fuel economy, and the occasional mild harsh terrain driving.

family just bought this vehicle in black, we love it! and dont mind the full economy since it isnt as bad as our other cars :)
Awesome review. Very non-traditional and refreshing. Great information, kept me engaged the whole time. More from him please.
I originally gave you a bad rating but after watching more of your video, you are right on. power rear window rocks! got news for you. people who buys 4runners don't care about mpg as much.

This guy needs a mini-fucking-van. He's reviewing an offroader SUV as a minivan.

best I've ever owned, 1997 runner limited
5:15 the third row isn't for adults that's why only a kid can sit in the thrid row
I have a 03 & 2011 4runner limited and you can easily pass most cars on the road. Even though the 4runner does need a v8 the truck is far from slow
Very informative, honest and intelligently presented. Thanks for your time in making this excellent review.
I love my 14 4runner LTD but my fuel economy sucks. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a great off road vehicle
Love my 4Runner forever... END of Discussion. Peace :-)
Like all SUVs it needs a V6 diesel option.
+RadioEditHits V6 turbo with more low end torque for better off roading
всесезонка колесы
it has one, but not available for the USA
I love 4runners and I thought that was a very fair, honest and well done review I don't get all the hate. I guess unless it's just a glowing review people get all upset

How is that terrible gas mileage? Most sport coupes get way worse and to me this is a sporty suv.
I see this car all over the suburbs... Then I again sometimes I live in the Minneapolis suburbs where people need this car because of the snow.
This car is just excellent!
Excellent review. Very real and no sale pitch.

Update works since this design was in 2010.

Did the fuel economy ever change? If so what year?
I want one.
3rd Gen Rocks
The 4runner does have a power rear door and an avg navigation display
Nope, no power rear door for the 4runner unfortunately.
Nope
great real world review - thanks for taking the time.
Have a new SR5 model, and with part time 4 wheel drive the economy improves slightly!

What do you think now? As the 6th Gen and its specs, has already been unveiled.

Haven't been following it,but I'll read up on it and see.

A supercharger will fix any power issues this baby lacks.
Heated Steering Wheel?
could u not lower the seat more? you seem perched up too high.
You shouldn't worry about gas mileage, if you're not a taxi driver.
How dare you say that about the snow!!
Excellent review.
Do Americans consider Michigan to be the mid-west?
I feel you here up in buffalo then moved to Texas.
Toyota 4runner limited GOD
The amount of whiny suburban crap in this review gave me a headache.
This was a California girlie-man report.
Good review. Thanks
this guy seems really nice, i hope hes doing okay
I still think that it needs a V8...
sounds like this guy really wants a mini van.
Don't like the car but like the honest review
I thought John Ritter had passed away. He was great in Bad Santa.
I have 99 ltd beast baby

I get barely 16 on a 2017 Limited. Regardless I LOVE my truck!!!

shutup about cubic feet for cargo capacity! no one measures anything in cubic feet.
Nice SUV but it's under power very slow it's a heavy car it needs the V8 engine back and 6 speed

3rd row seat is too tight.
Third row seat is a death trap to get out off or get hit in.
That's for kids 3road
Toyota should include a 6 speed transmission and a Turbo on the 4Runner.
You don't need a turbo and a 6 speed trans for going OFF ROAD. Get a sedan.
Kansas is the Midwest
Seriously? The third row would be for kids not 6 ft tall adults. Lol.
And on average in my sr5 I average 21ish mpg. The limiteds are thirsty slugs
No way 21mpg, maybe coasting downhill! ! Your dreaming
BigpoppaKC doin about 40 as we speak getting 20.7... they arent bad on gas in 2wd... limited stuck in awd all the time
Would be cool to make the front end of a Tacoma look like the 4Runner. :)
You talk too much
Put a turbo in there Toyota
