From my experience, shrimp thrives in an already established tank. I lately just put only 2 rcs in a my planted 20 gal established community fish tank with pest snails and now they are many and overrun the snails in population growth. An established planted tank with a sponge filter also works with dwarf mexican crayfish. I've got 2 and they eat pest snails too

I think my shrimp started thriving since feeding Kats aquatics invert food. I also tried putting berry tums in there for them to snack on for more calcium before I found Kat’s. Feeding your shrimp is key.

a lot of people dont kno about or even consider shrimp but a lot of ppl come into the store wanting a small tank thats full of life and ask if they can put goldfish or yellow labs in a 5 gallon, what they want is shrimp and they just dont know it

PH 8.2, KH 16, GH nothing with water softener but add Seachems Equilibrium to raise to 8,
Is this the best way to adjust the tank parameters? 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites and nitrates 10 to 20/25 at most. I can’t seem to keep shrimp alive! I have a 3.7 gallon tank, 6 chili rasboras, feed flakes, put just a little amount of algae wafer in every couple days and remove any leftover. Put Kats Aquatics calcium or 3 n 1 tab in tank. I have other tanks and even amano shrimp do not live very long. Same parameters for all my tanks. Any suggestions?

Water softeners will sometimes leave some salt behind which can harm shrimp?

I live in the Arizona desert and often find old desiccated bones on my walk about. I boil these and add them to my tanks sometimes, will this actually help with calcium for my shelled invertebrates?

It would add calcium, but I’m not certain about safety aspects?

@@PrimeTimeAquatics these bones are sand scoured from high winds and temps of 115-125 during the summer, and our humidity runs about 10-15% for most of the year. And I boil them for about an hour so I am pretty confident they are sanitary. These bones have been completely bleached white and are as porous as dead coral by the look of them, nothing organic remains on them

Hi my name is Graham. I purchased my mbuna cichlids from big Al’s aquarium services. They keep their pH at 7.6 to 7.8. Watching one of your videos I do understand NOW you should be keeping the fish parameters the same as where you’re buying your fish, not so much what the Internet says. my well water going through the softener is 7.4 pH 6DGH and 18 DKH. If I use Cichlid lake salt to bump up the GH to 8 to 9 and maybe a little bit of buffer to increase the pH is the KH too high or will it be OK for me to use my tap water?

If you do it, just use about 1/4 of the recommended dose to start and see what that does. You can always add more over time.

only thought big als was in canada, the ones i go to just use tap water and usually have a pretty fast turn around they dont always worry about exact water parameters and just focus on having clean water and fish free of disease, one that i go to is right around the corner from me we have the same tap water so i dont have to worry to much, another is in a difference municipality with slightly different water so i usually take more time acclimating my fish

How did you fix your planaria outbreak?

I more closely regulated the amount of food going into the tank and there were briefly small fish in the tank that must have eaten them.
