Great video. Currently tearing down/rebuilding a 1995 jayco. Pulley system giving me a hard time didn’t want to pull all the prebuilt cabinets out. Looks like I need to do so.
Dude you are amazing. Just got a pop up from the neighbor. This channel is gold.
As a general rule for would be DIYers make sure you use open eye bolts to hold the cable ends, they must be sacrificial to prevent a cable from snapping. Keep a few spares in case of an emergency repair is required in the field.
any idea where I can find replacement square tubes for the spring? Mine got all bent up but the rest of the system still works.
Do you need to take out the square tube That houses the coil in order to attach the cable?
Nice Job GB!!
Thanks for watching MT. It is coming along nicely.
@@FakeLegGreg GB, Using the paint can to mark a hole in a tight spot --Great Idea. Using the magnet to fish a bolt into hard to get to hole--Another Great Idea. Another fellow who was like You, Auto &Truck Mechanic, Machinist, Electrician, Welder showed me a trick a long time ago. If You can see the hole but can't get to it with Your hands, take a piece of light guage wire and make a circle around the bolt that the head won't slip through. Lower the bolt to the hole with one hand and carefully start a few threads with a long extension and socket with the other hand. When You think You've got enough threads started--Yank hard on the wire to get it out of the way and go ahead and tighten Your bolt. I noticed a few other of Your work by Yourself tricks You used on this video. Thanks for sharing them with us and teaching Us to think as We work.
Interesting. I owned a PUP years ago, it was our 1st camper. Even did a panel repair of upper front left corner side. I found that to be challenging. Would definitely not want to tackle a whole rebuild.
Cheers
I understand. If I am going to work on something like this, I would rather build it up from scratch than spend time on patch repairs. Different strokes for different folks. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Something I don't see is people using some form of insulation in the walls. Is it because you are going to lose most of your heating and cooling through the canvas?
Yeah, I have never seen a popup with insulation. Could be the inefficiency of the canvas. A popup is basically tent camping off the ground.
Do you know where I can buy (clutch plate, springs, etc.) for a L&W Winch?
Why wouldn't you just get all new marine grade nuts and bolts for the lift system? You are doing so much good work, and for a few more dollars you could get new bolts.
Thanks for the input Chad. Several reasons. 1) The 1/4-20 fasteners have never been torqued to stretch specifications because they are tightening plywood. Torqueing the bolts to spec would damage the deck. So the bolts are fine as is. 2) If you are wanting the marine grade for looks, the whole cable life assembly will be covered, not visible inside at all. Underneath they will be painted black with Rustoleum for touch up, again not visible. 3) I would have to order all the fasteners far in advance of any assembly work because getting some items has taken a lot longer this year. 4) This will probably be the last time these fasteners will ever see the light of day. They will do their job well for many more years. However, be assured that I am replacing all the square drive fasteners with pan head phillips stainless steel screws. I hope that answers your questions. Thanks for watching.
how can i keep my cables from tangling?
Lubricate the centre of the plate that holds the four eye bolts. Check no cables are overlapping and all are running correctly on their pulleys. Look inside the cupboards to find them.
Hi, I've got a major problem with my Starcraft 2010 lit post. The spring popped out of the exterior post and repared the post, but now i'm trying to reinstall the spring and do not understand if the end of the spring should go all the way through to the tip of 3rd section (the small section) of the post, or underneith it. there was a small plastic cap at the bottom end of that top small section of the telescopic post. I've tried fitting the push spring back in the square tubing and it is too long.
Could someone help me ?
The confused Frenchman
I could but it is a year later, however if any else reads this and needs help, here’s how you get the spring back into the tube. You need to wind the winch DOWN and then the spring will retract enough for you to pop it back into the tube and it will self locate back into the top of the riser which has a small nylon concave fitting to take the convex end of the spring. That is for Jayco pop up campers. Prop the roof up with some boards while you’re winding the winch down, don’t wind more than a couple of revolutions or the cable might get weird on the spool.
Great channel! Keep up the good work. Maybe you'll enjoy my uploads also 😃🤘
Thanks for watching.
