Thankyou. I saw this years ago and it has stayed in my memory as one of the most beautiful and moving things I have seen on stage. It's wonderful to see it again.
I only just discovered this, man I wished I could have seen it live. So astonishing. Hopefully the notification of my comment will bring you back to this masterpiece 👌
Incredible! He can breathe so much life into an inanimate object. He makes puppetry look so easy...his skill is incredible. I actually felt really bad for the poor little puppet, after it realizes that it is just a puppet, then *ends* itself. I didn't think it possible to feel sorry for an inanimate object...he did it for me. This is artistic genius.
I saw Phillipe Genty in Guanajuato, Mexico a few years back in his show "Vanishing Point" and have been a fan ever since. This performance is absolutely heartwrenching and mastering the art of marionettes is one of the most difficult in puppetry. Paul Daniels is an absolute genius.
Man. The first time i saw this it was on my mind for weeks. From how i understand this. The puppet realized that his life wasn't his own, that it was controlled by someone else, then he chose to be free even if it meant death.
this is the best puppet show i've ever seen. just to clear it up (because there seems to be some confusion) philippe genty is the puppeteer. paul daniels is a magician and philippe was a guest on paul's show
Really neat. Cool idea of the puppet breaking the 4th wall. It says something about bondage, like, the puppet rather be limp but free rather than continue to live a life where someone else is in control.
I understand that this is one person's interpretation: "In "Pierrot" a marionette determines to liberate himself from the strings that control him. With freedom comes collapse" Another is this: Pierrot, childlike and unhardened, is becoming aware of his surroundings and sees he has tragically misunderstood his situation. His is bound, with no self-determination, by the very strings that seemingly keep him propped up. His realization of this is soul wrenching. We literally see this innocent's perception of his servitude torture him to the point where he's forced to make an ultimatum with himself. His last resort. Give me liberty or give me death. He refuses slavery. For Pierrot, his longing for freedom is stronger than his fear of death. Vive Pierrot. Just one person's opinion.
Beautifuly said, without a doubt the darkness and light expressed in this performance is truly a statement about how freedom can sometimes lead to discontrol and a certain darkness
Another interpretation: Pierrot doesn't realize that HE is moving the strings of Philippe Genty. Pierrot is the master, his soul moves the man who serves him. Or you can even say that Pierrot is the soul of Philippe, this is exactly the way in witch we, the audience, see the scene. But the puppet doesn't understand the nature of his own freedom because he doesn't understand himself as a part of a bigger being in the same way as his leg is a part of him. His interpretation of the self is too narrow, that's why he is so sad and he feels so isolated and wants to die. Under this point of view the main theme is human solitude.
@@dracon5244Thank you!! Another beautiful interpretation I didn’t think of at all. It show how I can be so narrow minded too, thinking that I know like the pierrot did but in fact i know nothing. I only saw the surface like he did perhaps.
@@esraareda2755 Thanks to you. Currently we are taught that any dependency relationship should be avoided, which is why everyone wants to cut their strings, as if that were a form of liberation.
Exceptionnel.
I cried and shivered all the way through. Oh arent't we all hanging in there - and if we break loose, does it mean we will end up as a lifeless heap? who hold the threads? leelah99

@theresalinger But aren't we all in bondage by someone in our lives? A boss, a spouse, a child, a relative, a politician, or someone else? It is why the marionette falls limp, because he has freed himself from his bondage. Without being strung up by someone, his life falls apart, and his precious little freedom amounts to nothing.
This reminds me on what is happening in the world. Espacialy Iraq and libya. Beeing free is not always for the better. People misunderstand democracy. It is based on rules. Rules you must obey. And rules not every one agrees with. The only thing people should fight for is respect, onor and dignity. Respect mankind and al living beeings. Human rights and have more tolerance.
“I’m a woman, and the one controlling my strings just stabbed me in the eye with needle, I was literally just waking up to blood coming dripping fast from next to my eyeball on the floor in in front my face. It’s much more sadistic than this & the audience. I will never trust you….” ~MM

Mágico maravilloso

This is just amazing! Never get tired of watching it :) Superb!

Very relevant to my new production company. This is exactly what we stand for. To a degree. Beautiful puppetry work!!

THIS IS THE sinbol of lufe the puppet came to life and saw hiself attached to a hard life but in the end he ended his life great masterpiece
Exceptionnel.

Brilliant! Now this is art!
Brilliant excellent puppet show ❤
Great show ! Wonderful Pierrot .. like a dream

Do you by any chance know the name of the music used ?
A haunting performance. Thanks for posting it!
I can t forget this puppet show
Old but gold
I love and i create. Because I am a human, I am a man. Deeply in their mind, everyone knows this. superb performance though, real art!
i felt the pain and sadness of knowing later that you can nver have ur life directed by yourself cos even from the very start he never owned his life
What's the name of the song? I really loved it!

True art-Gorgeous stuff!
OMG greatest thing ever. So emotional BRAVO~!
like it. a man could not change the destiny, but the way he goes.
Hauntingly beautiful
There are no words.
BRAVO 👏👏 yapana
This little Pierrot wrecked my soul.
Thanks Limmy
Amazing performance! So moving and sad.
I was always amazed by The Paul Daniel's Show. As some of his guests were more talented than he was. I believe him to be an egomaniac.
Anything else like this out there?

sad, yes, but beautiful. heartwrenchingly so.
It's really better watching with the sound. The music is quite atmospheric. :)
👏👏👏
eerie yet intriguing
Imagine this on Britains Got Talent?
Beautiful!!

I really freaking want this music.
Ar.... so poignant, so beautiful, yet at the same time, so fatalistic and tragic!

Omg he's controlling looks real
Annie Co yes I agree
that was amazing~~
No matter recalcitrate or not, once you've found your own puppet string, your happiness will never come back. Sad.
which is worse to live like a monster or die like a good man ?
Exactly , its freeeeeeedoooooom .....
Live freee , or die hard .... :'(
Amazing ...
Pretty cool...and creepy. I dig it.
amazing...5 stars
Que intangible es la vida.

6:16 Puppeteer: IGHT IMMA HEAD OUT
At 1:01 , actor of the puppet: aah shit here we go again
Can we say depressing. That was super sad.
Scary but magnificent
that was amazing, but yet that puppet set the mood of saddness and tragity
This was so deep and kinda mesmerizing, idk
Feeling depressed after watching this. Get Freddie on.
WOW... !!!!!!!!!!!
Freedom is our life,.. why should we summit to anyone or any thing else that is not life and freedom,..
You gotta ask yourself who was in control? The puppet or the puppeteer.
Damn it's DARK !!
Moi et Moi.
Simplemente Precioso
belíssimo!

I understand the former part, but what means to tear the useless things apart?Could you please give me an example?
Can anyone spot the Boards of Canada sample?
da poor puppet!! he couldnt accept it! so sad... must...cuddle....puppet.... hehehee beautiful
❤
it's a shame puppetry isn't appreciated as much as an art form as ballet.
I worked with this master puppeteer.
Please, what is this music?
Hej Eva! Would you by any chance know this music?
A comment in the parent thread's other sub thread answers the question
A marionete's suicide. Rather free from the strings and dead, than trapped in their infernal constrictions and alive...
Did I hear someone crying near the end?
