  • How to run a 10K PR and a marathon PR in the same month!
This is the science of peaking
If you want to truly smash your PR in any event, you should train specifically for that event, right? What if I told you there was an easier way? A way where you can smash you PRs in every event leading up to your one peak event?
Sound too good to be true?
Haha! That’s the point! It’s so flipping awesome when this happens that I just had to share with you a story of one of my runners, Tim, who did just that, and how you can too.
How would YOU feel if you had run a PR in your 10k, and in your half-marathon…while only training with laser-like focus on the marathon? And without ever doing a 10k, or half-marathon pace workout?
You’d probably think “Holy Moley! I’m so flipping fit! I ran these PRs without training for them. I wonder what I can do at the race I HAVE been training for…☺"
    That’s the Run Elite difference.
When you FEEL this way, when you show yourself how fit you are, when you didn’t even try…it’ll make you believe that you are CRAZY fit for the race you have been training for.
When race-day comes, it’s virtually a guarantee that you’ll PR now. After all, you have the fitness to back it up…and you never burned yourself out training too hard for any of the shorter tune-up races.
THIS is specificity in training baby! And it’s how all of the greats train.
Want to see what it’ll take for you to PR like this? Both easily, and with joy?

Great video. There’s so much info on training on the internet and RUclips, but your training philosophy makes the most sense for sustainable performance at any age. It is exactly what I have been looking for! I’ve enjoyed watching all your videos.

I have 13 weeks left of base training and 25 weeks out from goal marathon. I have the JFK 50 in 9 weeks (Nov 23). I was thinking since you said longer and slower as well as shorter and faster are good non specific training stimulus that the 50 would be okay to run in base training. There are some fun 5k-10k-and 1/2's coming up in October, are those okay to run in base training? Do you think the JFK 50 is a bad idea? I am 6 weeks in to base training and doing 65 miles a week with 65 strides. My last race was Umstead 100 in April and it went really well. (17:40 finish). I am downshifting from Ultra's to marathons for next year or two. TIA

Yup a 50 is great training far out from a marathon if you have enough time. Racing a 5k or half in base is ok if it’s not too frequent and you have a lot of time in base. But it’s arguable better to use that effort to just get a metric ton of strides plus a higher mileage day. But it’s ok if it’s infrequent

@@runelitecoach okay awesome, I will save the shorter races for the next phase of training and continue to build base. THANKS!! Your videos and book have revived my passion for running.
