EASY Crochet: Alternative Blanket Stitch For Baby Blankets, Afghans - ONE ROW REPEAT! Sedge Stitch
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 28 дек 2021
- Learn how to crochet this VERY simple, easy, quick and beautiful crochet stitch - it's a lovely twist on the traditional Blanket Stitch, sometimes called the Sedge Stitch.
It's great for baby blankets, scarves, large afghans and more! The ONE ROW REPEAT aspect means that you can whip this one up without much trouble - a great one for beginners right through to the more advanced crocheter.
For the white baby blanket that I showed I'm using Stylecraft Bambino DK and a 4mm hook - I chained 128 + 3 for my blanket.
Shop Stylecraft Bambino here: bit.ly/3CjuML4
I'm using Scheepjes Chunky Monkey and a 6mm hook for the sample piece but you can use ANY yarn that you like and whatever hook size it recommends.

Lovely blanket stitch. I've been trying to find this, started it once then i lost this video and couldn't finish the blanket, so glad i found you again 😊❤
This is beautiful and explained well enough for a beginner, thank you 😊
Very lovely and simple stitch. Thank you very much. You are a very good teacher.
I must say I've stolen most of your textured stitches and I am now the proud owner of a formidable number of face clothes! This one is just begging to become an oven pad of some sort! 1 row repeat, nice and thick.....it's on its knees really!🤣🤣. Happy and healthy New year. Stella
Your great 👍
A formidable number…..that’s great !
I just love her videos. It takes me several tries at the blanket before I stop tearing my hair out, but her calm voice and clear instructions keep me sane. 🤣
The stitch looks so beautiful in a solid color. What a gorgeous baby blanket
Lovely stich alternative for a baby blanket, and a very dense looking result. Thank you for this tutorial.
So glad you like it 🥰
I really really love this pattern. I had a hard time starting bc I have adhd and kept forgetting how the pattern went so I restarted like 3 times but now I’m ready to start row 3 and it’s beautiful. ❤
I’m so glad that you’re enjoying your project and I’m sure it’ll be wonderful 🌸
Very simple but very lovely stitch! Going to make a blanket with this in the new year. Thank you so much for sharing Rebekah 😃
Love this pattern. You explain it so well.
It is a beautiful stitch. The blanket looks so pretty. A lovely simple stitch but so effective Thank you for the tutorial. ❤️
I’ve been asked to make a baby blanket one for a little girl and this (less pouffe😉) stitch is perfect. Thanks 🧶🤩
Such an easy yet gorgeous stitch ! Again thank you! 🙏🙏🙏🥰🥰🥰🥰💙💙💙💙💙😘😘😘😘 can’t wait to make this!
I crochet baby blankets for the premature babies unit and its lovely to come across a pattern I have not tried before. Very clear instructions, nice easy pattern. Thank you
Thank you for pattern, I did baby blankets with it and really liked the way they turned out.

Thanks to you I've learned the U.K. terms and it helps with watching other tutorials. Thank you Love your videos! You make everything so clear and easy to understand!
Thanks so much! 🌸
Beautiful! Thank you so much! Can’t wait to try it! 😊
love, love, love this stitch! thank you!
That's such a pretty stitch!
Thank you for this most appreciated lesson! I have been crocheting for 40 plus years and have never found a stitch pattern that I absolutely love as much as this. Also, your beginning of the row ch2 alternative stitch is amazing! I have avoided patterns that require ch2 starts because of the awkward edge it leaves. Now the edges are straight and perfect. My project is special because my 10 year old granddaughter asked me to make a white blanket for her. Much searching found your video and it has been saved as my only “favorite “.
Beautiful stitch, I was wondering what I could do next so thank you, problem solved x 👏🌹
Great tutorial of a pretty stitch. Thank you😁👍
Love this! A (city)bus driver asked me to make her daughter a blanket from yarn she (herself/the driver)tried making a lap blanket out of. But found that crocheting just isn't her forte. She brought me 3 large skeins of super chunky gray yarn, including the swatch that she started which was plenty long enough for a twin size spread. But I couldn't duplicate her stitch. So this will be it! She's fine with whatever I choose.
Ohhhhh that's lovely x
So glad you like it Jemma 🌸
Very beautiful & simple stitch. I gotta try this
Thats beautiful, thanks for sharing
Love this pattern! It’s easy yet sophisticated and I love the subtle texture. Beautiful and your instruction is spot on. Thankyou much! Cheers!

@@BlossomCrochet 😪 I cant do it, I keep ending with 3 stitches???
@@jemmawhitehouse1043 Just pop a double crochet (U.K. terms) into your very last chain - it’ll still be ok 🌸
Looks fab.
Thanks so much! 🌸
You can call it whatever you want, but I think it's my brand new winter sweater-coat!
Hi Rebekah This is a very pretty stitch, going to add it to my pattern library.
Happy New Year to you and your family.
Take care and stay safe

Thank you Amanda! Happy New Year to you and yours too ❤️
I love how simple and adorable this blanket is . I will be using this pattern on my next blanket. Love the calming music in background. Can you name the music, please? Thank you.❤

Harikasın 👏👏👏
Hi Rebecca, I love your tutorials and made a few blankets, I would really like to try and baby jumpers, dresses etc do you have any tutorials on these. I’m not experienced fairly new but I find it easy to follow you Thanks
“The stitch looks less poofy” 😂🤣 Is that a technical term? Love watching your videos 😘 Happy New year to you and your family x
I just completed a baby blanket using this beautiful stitch which I'm sure will use again and again❤ I am wondering where I can get the printed instructions, I love your tutorial but also I to have a printed version for when I'm away from home. Thank you so much for sharing this lovely stitch. 😊
This is a beautiful easy pattern, Its a yarn eater. I’m making a full size afghan and I don’t think 3, 1 pound skeins of Caron is going to be enough. Make sure to get plenty of yarn
Hi I Love all you tutorials on stitches you make beautiful baby things. Do you get you stitch dictionary on line or do you have books that you work from? If it’s books can you please tell me the name of books you recommend. Thanks for fabulous pod casts x
😃 love this pattern will use it on next blanket.
Just one thing, at the end (us terms) turn
ch 1 then work pattern? Is that correct?
beautifull texture do you have a "center out"version?
I'm lefthanded ,and I was wa during if you had any lefthanded tutorials
Love the yarn u r using. Went to website and I can’t find it. I’ll buy it from England or USA. Doesn’t matter to me. I see the texture looks soft.
i may be setting myself up to fail, but do you think you can change colour mid row and use the clusters for "pixels" in letters?
Hi Rabecca, I'm doing this baby blanket in baby blue colour and I'm loving it, the stitch is so simple yet gorgeous !!
Pls advice me on the border ?? Which border stitch should I do ??
Lots of Luv 💙
So glad you’re liking it so far! I’ve not decided for definite on the border yet but at the moment I’m thinking I’ll do a simple moss stitch 🌸
How much wool did you use for this blanket? Thank you
would this work with DK yarn? I have loads of it to use up and thought this would be nice stitch to use for an lap blanket.
Yes, absolutely it would be beautiful 😍
I love this stitch! I’m making a blanket for my daughter and her colors are grey and black. I was planning on using the black as a border. Do you have any suggestions on which border might look good with this stitch? Thank you for your tutorials I enjoy watching and learning from you. I’m still a beginner and you’re one of the great teachers! Thank you! 🧶
Thank you so much, how lovely of you to say ☺️
Your blanket sounds beautiful, if you’re wanting to keep it quite simple then I’d definitely suggest a Moss Stitch Border but if you’re thinking something a little more ‘fancy’ then maybe a Cluster Wave Border. I’ll pop both tutorials below 🌸

ruclips.net/video/HhPRHKNymfU/видео.html
@@BlossomCrochet thank you I can’t wait to watch both tutorials! I’m leaning towards a simple border so moss stitch it is! 🤗
how much yarn did you use for the baby blanket size.
So every row begins with 2 uk trebles (2 u.s. doubles) and ends in 1 uk double (1 u.s. single)? And starting ch is any even number +3 at the end no matter what size yarn we use? Is that all correct? I love this stitch so much. Thank you Rebeka
Yes, you are correct.

Thanks for replying @Hugs&Kisses. 💞
@@Pitoonya Glad I could help. I wish you well 😊
@@HugsXO
Well thank you! I needed to hear something good and positive. You made me smile 😊...Happy and healthy 2022 to you!🎉💞
Would this stitch work AT ALL for something like a temperature blanket? or because of all the dipping into the row below, would the effect get really lost?
Personally, I think it would work well with changing colours each row 🌸💗
@@BlossomCrochet Thank you for the feedback! I think if it switched every row, it would, too! The problem is, I'll likely have chunks of the same color in a row because the days' highs were all in the same range ... and then have one random one in a different range and then back down...
Can you give number of stitches for blanket, can't seem to find it, only get your sample amount. Beautiful pattern, ghank you.
For the blanket I made I chained 128 + 3 🌸
Thank you very much, will get started today. 👍
How much yarn did you use?
For my finished blanket, including border, I used 4 balls of Stylecraft Bambino dk 🌸
Just wondering, how many balls did you use for baby blanket and what size is the finished blanket with your starting chain amount? X K
I used 3.5 balls of the Bambino dk and my finished blanket (including border) measures 32x24 inches. It’s just a basket/travel blanket size 🌸
@@BlossomCrochet Thanks for replying so quickly. K
The sample swatch doesn’t really look like the actual blanket? The sample has more gaps in it. Seems a bit confusing.
It might be better if you could work in colours rather than white. It’s difficult to see the pattern when it’s worked in white yarn
This is called the sedge stitch.
Indeed it is.
This seems like the sedge stitch.
Yes, also called the sedge stitch 🌸
This is whats called the sedge stitch
