A narrative that was long overdue. Because of the long North/South dual orientation of our unique Garden State, many folks know little of the background of the seaside towns that are at the “other end” of the Jersey Shore they knew related to where they had grown up. Interesting to all visitors, but a great service to those of us who live here in the State of New Jersey.
Thank you, Eric! That is a very nice comment. :) This video tracks NJs coastal history north to south. I made another one that's over 4 hours and explores the shore's history chronologically. I made an error in that one and included a few copyrighted photos by accident. Hopefully that will be up again soon after making it more polished and some total re-editing. Going to try to make this one more polished eventually too. Thanks again!
Fret not about those changes. With projects like these, no matter how good they become, there are always things that can be improved. I had already seen your major series before and suggested it to others when the subject comes up. It is more work than most viewers can appreciate. Without inclusion of those great archival shots, the series would have less appeal. All those extraordinary buildings……..gone, but thanks to your work, not forgotten. When you get all caught up, I can think of two projects you might think appealing. (But don’t let me distract you.)
@@eburro96 Thanks Eric! You're pretty awesome. My email address should be in the "About" section of my channel if you want to drop me a line. Some health issues have slowed me down a bit but feel free to drop me a line anytime. Be well my friend!
Thank you! That's so great that you enjoyed it. I'm re-editing this video and it should be posted next week. I got a lot of comments that the music was too loud...and I agree. It needed some sprucing up in other spots too.
I was just down the shore the other day with a friend and some of the historic buildings came to life after watching your video. It enhanced my tour of the area.@@historyofthejerseyshore
@@muskduh that's an awesome compliment. Thank you so much! If I've helped some good people to enjoy the history of the Jersey Shore...I've done my job. 🙂 Sounds like you had a blast!
Been to all the Jersey shore towns, they have been declining for decades. People are more sophisticated now and demand more than greasy pizza and T shirt shops. New Jersey beaches are mediocre, usually cold and polluted. The new playground is south Florida. So much better in every category.
Thanks Drew. I really should! That's one area that I didn't realize how historically interesting it was until after I completed the full documentary. I'm slowing down in my old age but I think I'll try to give it a shot. 🙂
@@Gameboyboy17 Thanks! I usually do the research and put together the narrative story first. Then I record the narration and put together the pics and video. I watched the four hour series on the history of the coast of New Jersey, and just watched this documentary on town's. Can you please do a documentary on Manahawkin, Barnegat, Waretown, and Tom's River?
Hi A Different View. I would love to do documentaries on all of those towns. From past research I know that they all have fascinating histories. I've been slowing down a little with a few nagging health issues but I'll try my best! Thanks for watching! 😊
I lived on Long Beach Island for 62 years 1959-2020. Seasonal, year round weekends, year round, vacations. Hurricanes, Nor'easters, 2 major blizzards, many big day waves....
@charlesnolan7602 I met your brother Pete many years ago when I lived in Beach Haven with my friend Cheryl. She and I knew Pete through a friend of ours, Janice Eisman. Next time you see him, tell him Peggy says "hello". :)
I visited North Cape May for the first time last year and loved it. It must have been a great sleepy little town in the 70s. It has some great history so I would love to do a video on it in the future.
@@historyofthejerseyshore I lament the destruction of the Asbury Park Casino and 1875 copper repousse Carousel house.. It was the sort of architecture that people from all over the world would come to see. the Casino has been repaired for the elements but historically it is a disaster... It's just gone forever
I love it too! Your comment could be applied to lot of great shore spots. I tried my best to give proportionate time to each place according to how many people visit them. A lot of spots just got a mention because they simply needed to be recognized.
Excellent video. One note though. The name Absecon is pronounced with the emphasis on the middle syllable, and the "O" is more like a short "u". Anyway, very interesting history. Much of it was new to me. Thanks.
Thank you! Ya know, I knew how it was pronounced at one time and forgot. It ticks me off and would love to change it but it would take a lot of redoing. So glad you enjoyed it! 😃
Been a south Jersey resident all my life and I love the NJ Shore. I grew up going to Ocean City. Thanks a huge for this video.
Thanks a huge for watching! So glad you like it. South Jersey Shore rocks....
@@historyofthejerseyshore agreed 👍
Thanks for a fantastic visit to the beginnings of the Jersey Shore. The story of each seaside community went right to the heart and soul of the place.
Thank you, Sharon! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! 🙂
Good stuff! If you enjoyed this, Peter Slack has done two more specific documentaries on Island Heights and Mantoloking. Stay awesome!
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed it. I just checked out Peter's videos...absolutely exellent! Stay awesome! 🙂
Great video, thanks for sharing.
