This is literally the first positioning discussion I've seen for Wow arenas. Having put in some reps in Overwatch as a healer, I've seen what positioning can mean in a game. It would be nice to see a discussion of winning positioning for comps other than double caster vs melee healer too.
The number one reason you lose arena: You run out of health before your opponent does. You're welcome
real reason: you dont pick fotm/op classes
:O thats the kind of information I was looking for ty !
Thanks man! Saved me 11 minutes and 58 seconds 👍🏻👏🏻
From Maui ?????
😂😂😂
Briggsta here - this gave us a ton of insight when rewatching this. There were a lot of things I could’ve done to play this better. This was a great teaching moment for my rl friend Dmabe about positioning as well. He’s only been playing the game for almost 2 months now and learned a lot from this single match. Good stuff.
I love this! Have fun learning together. You 2 will do great
they are not friends anymore
In short: when your in to deep always pull out
😂😂😂😂
lmfao Rules to live by
Never pull out
But it feels so goooood
Ma man, combust n dip
I used this info in my latest arena matches. You're the man. I couldn't figure out how to alleviate pressure when I'm getting trained, but this one vid made life so much easier.
"Hide behind your Warlock's skirt".
That sums up those 12 minutes.
Are ya saying it’s a bad thing? Lol I mean, pillar, skirt, whatever, it’s just what leads to victory and the ends justify the means!
What I took from this is just be patient, dont try to 100-0 them straight out the gate and wait for your openings. Thanks Xar!
15 years of wow playing, and you just teach me something very usefull.
Thx bro
Depends what the comp is.
I actually absorbed info from this step by step pause explanation style compared to your other vids. Thank you keep these coming!
The Number One Reason You Lose Arena: You Picked The Wrong Class.
NefariousPorpoise the number one reason why you lose in the arena: you only play pvp and dont get pve equip
And you do not have needed corruption and your clock level corruption resistance is low because you started to play recently.
@@PartosBarbos saw a video of a german player whi played from 0 to like 2200+ as a enhancer shaman with 420gs....so it seems like were just all shit (:
more like you forgot to pve
@@tomnguyen128 ohh dude pve for pvp is such a mess I'm wishing the old days back where I do pvp for pvp x)
I'd love to see this kind of video with an actual bad pvp class. This was helpful but as a mage you actually have chances of doing things but what happens with others classes.
Classes like what? Rogue? Priest? Warrior? You do realize the lock is doing he heavy lifting right?
@@oslier3633 like Ele Shaman? =P
Definitely gonna take this advice, thank you so much!
good idea for a series- teach people to arena- love the vid man
Great lesson man. Thanks for these small tips that are really game changing.
SO glad to see you hit 100k my brotha. And amazing view counts on the videos. Love it. Been here since 15k. Been all about positioning ever since
Love you vids, I thought I knew a lot but you've taught me so much more :D! Very entertaining video as always, keep it up!
Awesome vid man! Very helpful
Very funny and very informative. Thanks! Learned a lot and subscribed.
Nice guide Xaryu. What about some insight to how the melee should play against double caster? I have been having this frustration in 2s and 3s. We LOS caster cds but I can never stick onto one caster without being peeled off and having to run behind a pillar again. What are you thoughts from the melee point of view?
i like instructional arena commentaries like this one great job
Thats actually pretty useful, never really thought about this.
Thank you very much!
Very nice and informative, every video I’m learning something new.
Finding an equally skilled player who is playing the right class is the most important thing. It's a social game.
‘Equally’ being key, if you’re trying to find someone higher rating to carry you you won’t progress as quickly.
@@domhamai exactly, you need two good players who aren't playing bad classes. Chain only strong as weakest link 🖇️
Love this style of video, like you said most of us know what to cast etc, but positions is a different story.
Would like to see more of these!
i dont usually comment on arena tips vids, but imma make an exception this time. really well explained. awesome content.
I like how you explain this. I know arena isnt my thing, but i'm gonna try this now
Super helpful brother thank you!
I am amazed how u explaining so detailed, thanks Xaryu!
Great video Xar! You explained the impact of positioning very well and I think a lot of people who watched this video have taken something from it to improve their game-play.
I loved this video and I’ve been questioning the same thing. Fixed my positioning after this and pushed 2k rating in one sitting
This is one of the most useful and informative pvp videos I’ve seen in a hot minute.
Melee version of this would be sick as well bro.
I second that!
YEA!!!!
PLZ!
So we're not going to talk about the clutch candy drop at all then?
Was it that clutch though? Xar most likely said "crap where's my candy" and both enemies were lined so the lock wasn't doing anything else anyway. a 200 cr lock would have dropped candy at that moment. Not saying the lock didn't do some great things but that's not really the highlight we should be making.
It was good, but let's be honest here.. he didnt even use the candy.
Just gone from being stuck between 1500-1600 to 1800 after watching this with my arena buddy. Ty
Bro I love this style of video plz more of them
That was amazing! Thanks so much!
Love analytical game play like this! Great video!
Love the educational videos. Good work xar
more vídeos like this please, nice work!
I always struggle with this since i play arcane I am always just zoomin around and then when i fight dks i just cant move so idk where to go lmao. This video def helped me thanks for this!
This is what I was looking for. So much useful information that I am going to put in good use.
Can you tell me or maybe perhaps make a video on how to deal with healers?
How to properly set a cc chain to kill them, or perhaps kill dps while healer is Cc'ed. I struggle a lot against healers.
I just started playing arenas with my warrior the other day, trying to farm echoes of ny'alotha for twilight devastation. I won 2 of my first games, but lost 11.
Then I couldn't get a partner.
I was i463, but only had a 445 weapon. Was I using my abilities wrong? I don't know, just that despite wearing plate, and starting with a great deal of health, it went down faster than my opponents.
Now I have a 475 2h, but I will be able to do 3 invasions, 3 visions, and 3 emissary quests before TD I is available, and I don't know that I will be trying to farm echoes.
Hey Zar, thank you for the amazing video! The positioning is very important for sure, but could you please also make a guide for more basic movement? I mean, it's important for mage to step back sometimes, but backpedalling does not seem like a good option. Also moving and casting effectively could help to greatly improve results. Thanks!
Thats really nice!! Can you make a same kind of video for melee positioning.. with healer or with dps aswell? ;)
healer/melee positioning: healer behind pillar, melee rushes in 60 yards away from you and gets kited behind another pillar. You are forced to go in as well or else he dies. You are in the open, get CC'ed, your melee dies and flames you for lack of heals.
Amazing video, very informative!
I always think he’s saying “heyyy guyzzzz are you here?”... lol
this is actually really interesting thanks heaps champ!
Can you do a guide for TBC arena? Tactics for each setup, placements, etc.
I was just looking for that, thanks Xaaaaar
Holy shit 261k. Damn Xar comin' in hot. Love to see it. Cya next stream brotha.
Super interesting and informative, thank you
I went from a 20% win rate to a 60% win rate. I did this by altering my talents to make sense for PvP. I really spent weeks using PvE trinket/talents for PvP. After 3 weeks, I finally bought PvP trinkets. One more week later I finally altered my talents while doing PvP. I feel stupid.
I noticed many lock are making mistakes by standing near pillar, the melee can easily go behind pillar to avoid chaos bolt
Very Helpful.
Great vid man, the only thing i would have maybe liked is an explanation on what the OTHER team could have done better. Could they have played more aggressive since they were a heal/dps comp? why or why not?
Newly returned to WoW last week. What addons are you using in this video for PvP? Any recommendations in general?
Super solid vid Xar! How are you feeling about the mage changes in the newest alpha builds?
Brief sum on what they are or a wow head link?
Shimmer back to 2 charges and a longer CD is I think the best compromise on this balancing pass
Knoppel pheonix flames is now baseline and spreads ur ignite
@@penatbuter5452 the only compromise on balancing this class is nerfing it to the ground.
Good video xaryu! Keep it up
Thumbs up great vid. Would have enjoyed it more if you gave an explanation as to what the Abomination does and why you need to be careful of it. Same goes for most PvP videos just wish there was an explanation on other specs defensive/offensive CDs. Im too old now to know every specs abilities lol. Great vid though man really enjoyed it
Would love more of these videos
Thanks so much man! 🙏🏻
so simple but so important.
thanks alot buddeh !
You also need to be able to target quickly and swap targets without hunting for the opponent. When I pvp I am constantly losing my target via diff escape mechanisms and its hard for me to regain the opponent.
Good shit xaryu. Wonder why this guy never thought to do a single point of damage to the warlock though.
This here will change my gameplay. Thank you
legendary video xar!
Yo Xar can you make more rogue mage breakdowns please. I play rogue and just want to know what are the stray against different comps and what should be the main ways to play rogue mage. Thanks keep ballin
he already updated one a few months ago
@@jorgefelipa2648 I think that's why the other guy is asking if he can make MORE of them :D (more implies there already exists atleast 1 yes I'm fun at parties)
damn this is so accurate... weeks ago i didn t really enjoyed ur content but since i started arena/playing mage i find that very cool and interesting! nice vids u good
definitivly my channel discover of the month!
amazing video keep coming up with more
Hey Xaryu, just started learning pvp and loved the video however I play a melee. What are some of the things the DK couldve done to be in a better position in the game? I feel like playing pillar would be the go to answer but with double dps youre stacking dampening. Curious to see what you think they couldve done better to win the game
Keep in mind at the time of this video's release, you can no longer reaping pets for the R3 buff.
You just taught me how to play my lock holy feck this is gonna be deadly
rewatching after 6 months. Would be cool to see a rogue/mage version for positioning, and maybe RMP one, too.
i would like to know about melee position, did they do a good job hugging the pillar?
Cool vid, thanks Xaryu :)
I play arcane mage and uh dk, sometimes this happens where the other guys just stand all day behind pillar and I dont want to wait and go in, should I just wait behind a pillar too and wait until the other team does something? In this case for example, the unholy dk could have just waited all day behind the pillar or what could he have done to win?
been trying so hard to just get the vicious mount but ive never pvped and randoms dont want to help i'm at 5% towards the mount tho so slowly but surely i'm a warrior
Best advice I can give is run with a Mistweaver or Rdruid if your arms... Warriors really soft in pvp
Should have a disclaimer that this is only relevant to ranged...
The instructions given by Xar were pretty specific to range here. He would have to adapt how he talked about the fight if he wants to teach melee positioning at a high level.
@@Rave.- i mean his main takeaway is that positioning is something EVERYONE has to be mindful about; range, melee, and healer. in situations where you are melee, the biggest thing to do against caster cleaves and try to fight your opponent near a pillar. Dk shouldve gripped lock as he has no way to get out aside from a hardcast gateway
Also this strat only works with warlock because of warlocks currently being raid bosses. The lock won that match.
Scryeless not at all, if you get behind mage: poly spam. If you get beind shadow priest: mind control fears and horror. If you get behind an Boomy: Clones
If I was the DK I would save burst windows for grip attempts and just hit and run until one of them make a mistake. Save burst for both AMS and a separate grip attempt. He could also kill warlock pets while he waits for a mount up. And can’t monks get a hand of freedom like spell?
HAHA! My guy dropped the SCHWFF round the corner! 10/10 Great video once again, much love
do you make these videos with other classes ? would like a survival hunter vid :D your good at explaining, havent thought about this positioning stuff ever.. but how to position as melee ect.
Good vídeo Xar!! Do u think gushing wounds corruption will be the new meta on PvP for now? Is useful for mages? Thx!
Am a Destro lock and i'd never had the chance to see a mage understands what we need, thx for explaining it
I loved that mention. We go woosh - Round the Corner, Round the Corner we going... :D this reminds me of the old days I loved that guy. Best Paladin in the world. You are amazing btw Xaryu keep it up
Thanks Xaryu....thats help alot.
Love you and your videos!
Haven't even watched this and I liked the video because I already know it's going to be good. Thanks for making this helpful content!
Update: I was correct in my assumption.
Hi Xar! Great content as always! I have one question. I like doing the mirror chess situation. What would you do if you were the other team (DK healer). How would they position themselves to avoid the way you outplayed them. What could have they done better?
Go for the closest pillar and pull the warlock, the monk should get the cc at the mage, try to force any cds from the lock then change to mage again, if it doesnt work just reset.
TLDR: disengage and eat while your warlock 2v1s
Hey Xar! Can we see some more mage break downs, was extremely helpful last video! have a great day. :)
thanks dude my rating is finally going up!
Xaryu can you make an FMP guide please, or something explaining your mindset going in with running with a feral as compared to a rogue. please :D
bro you just wrinkled my brain hard. thank you!
Niceeee clip ! that what we want to see bro !
Yes dude. Im learning!
this was sick thx man
Like, Sub, watched the Full Ad. Keep doing what you doing man. It's a good thing!
How do you handle arena as a tank and is it even viable?
I always get sapped tho...so how do you avoid the saps, stuns, and any other traps?? I use anything I have to get rid of the spell. I'm also trying to learn arenas....I'm great at bgs but these.....wahhhhh. New sub as well!!!
He seems to know how I feel trying to teach people about arena , stuff seems like common sense but just blows over so many people's head
Nice video Xaryu. But What would be your advice in case of I'm the Lock and playing with a healer. Do i leave my healer between me and my opponent? Take care and congrats for the great job. ^^
