"Malcom in the Middle" also premiered in 2000, and definitely should have been included on the Honourable Mentions list.
I agree. I understand picking Curb, but Curb started with a special episode in 1999, while Malcolm was an instant hit that set the tone for 21st century sitcoms more than Curb which was very much like Seinfeld.
Being a 90s kid is weird when it comes to the timeline of TV shows. Like, Malcolm in the Middle was a huge part of my childhood, yet I only discovered Curb as a 20-something, despite them both starting around the same time.
You think it's anywhere near as good as CYE?!
Also, add "Raising Hope" and "The Middle" to that list.

Parks and Rec surely deserves a spot. But I like Modern Family too, so
well if you compare the first season from parks and rec, Modern Family, and Community (irrespective of how they evolve), Modern family would definitely win. Though they did stretch the show and other two knew when to stop.

Modern Family should be every year since 2009. Unlike other shows, MF's humor is the most clever, darkest and subtle. Relatable and no overacting. I'm bored with comedy shows who throws off cliche punchlines and obvious jokes.

But to be fair on its "inventiveness" , they paved the way for many firsts: gay wedding and full length episode shoot on a computer screen with amazing plot (Connection Lost, S6). It's just tip of the iceberg and a comedy doesn't always need to be inventive; it just needs to be FUNNY which MF effectively do. Cite a comedy show that can match that. Even Emmy's agree with me. Your move?
the middle. is better. It’s actually funny and has good characters, while Modern Family went through Seasonal Rot.
The Mindy Project is so underrated! It's such a shame I can't stream the show over here in the Netherlands.

Arrested development is so underrated it’s got one of the cleverest writing in comedy i’ve ever seen

@@translatesspanish6178 arrested development is written almost like a puzzle box of jokes, where an offhand comment in one episode loops around and connects to a visual gag in a later episode -- that sorta thing. You're not "dumb" for not getting it, you just gotta actively participate in what's happening and look for connections. Sometimes there'll be a setup for a gag that doesn't pay off until much later, and things pass by in the background and in the seams in-between story beats, so you can miss a lot if you're just consuming content "passively" like you might do with a laughtrack sitcom
@@tomoakley760 I'm on the last season and I was really pushing through it but I find it kinda "meh" I would never recommend it and the family just annoys the hell outta me (the only ones I like is George Michael and GOB)
My favorite comedy show is community so I guess you could judge my sense of humor based off that little bit of info
@@translatesspanish6178 fair enough, it's definitely not for everyone. Community for me is that perfect sweet spot, where its niche enough to appeal to a specific type of viewer, but broad enough that anyone can get its appeal right away. I prefer Community but sometimes I'll revisit Arrested Development just to see what jokes I'd missed the previous binge
“Two and a Half Men” also premiered in 2003. At one point Charlie Sheen was making $1.3m per episode!
Ray Romano was making like 2 mill an episode. It didn't make his show good.

I’m glad that 8 Simple Rules was on the list, such a great show & definitely underrated
Great sitcoms that definitely wouldn't have been on this list (judging by relative popularity) but should've been in some capacity: Superstore (2015), Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (2015), AP Bio (2018), Community (2009), Pen15 (2019). Also some 2021 shows to consider: Girls 5eva and Rutherford Falls (Peacock has really been killing the game with its original shows).

So many references to shows being "available on Netflix" but NOT IN MY COUNTRY. I pay for the same service and get access to much smaller catalog for no acceptable reason. I wanna watch these shows, I pay for the streaming services to try and get them legally, and providers just geoblock me because they can. This is why torrenting will never end.
I advice you to use vpn ,so you can reach multiple geographics areas and watch the content you want.

Here in Brazil I have to watch The Office on Amazon Prime, not on Netflix. Luckily Amazon Prime is also way cheaper than Netflix.
Welcome to the club buddy. I am from Turkey and I also have the same problem. It is frustrating. I had to use Amazon Prime for watching The Office. Anyway, it was very cheap and at least I did not pay much.

I love The Office but HIMYM deserves to be on this list. It was more than a funny sitcom. That show dealt with some real life issues. It totally changed my life. ❤️

Came here to make sure The Office took the 2005 spot, Brooklyn 99 took the 2013 spot, and Schitt's Creek took the 2015 spot. 30 Rock was pretty good (get why it was listed), but I would have personally picked The IT Crowd for 2006.

First season was good. But over time, the comedy got more darker, mean- spirited, and Megan got more and more vicious, sadistic, and devious.
Since his charges and court hearing have been made public I don't see him playing any roles for Nickelodeon anytime soon.
One of my favorite sitcoms in That 70s Show but it started in 1998.
Drake and Josh, Good Luck Charlie, The Big Bang Theory(its good episodes anyway), The Other Two, Victorious, The Good Place and 8 Simple Rules were all my favorites. Young Sheldon is even better than Big Bang and is worth your attention even without watching the original series

i was NOT expecting to see victorious on here, but it's a pleasant surprise! it's super underrated in my opinion (though that may just be my nostalgia filter talking lol), glad to see it get some recognition for once
Brynhildr in the Darkness (2014) may not be a sitcom series but the anime series is famous for having many Genres in one like Horror, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Action, Drama, Comedy, Ecchi, Romance, Harem, Mystery, Magic, Slice of Life, Psychological and Tragedy. Many people believe that having many Genres in one is impossible. However; Brynhildr in the Darkness (2014) is one of the few anime series to make a breakthrough with these Genres and became a cult hit.
Community and Superstore deserved honourable mentions
