Why are people afraid to test it directly from the gas tank

Have a batch of those pumps. When they work, they are great. Have one labeled for water for camping. One for gas that I use all the time. One for motor oil. One for ATF. (And some spares) There are two different sizes for the pump end, so watch what one you get. One is smaller than the other. The bigger one was problems fitting in the newer gas cans that have the strainer on it. The bumps in the neck of the gas can rubs the side of the pump and will pull the end of the pump off. Had fun trying to fish the end out of the full can of gas. After years of use, gas will start leaking out of the seams. I've had a couple that the switch failed. They are cheap, so buy a batch of them, you will find uses for them. (No reason to mix fluids) btw: take a piece of PVC pipe with a cap on one end (magnets one side so it sticks to my tool box) and store the pump in that, no problem with the gas dripping out of the bottom when storing it until the next use.

I have a diesel heater mounted in my shop and like to get 5-10 gallons at a time then found it was to heavy for me to lift and pour. Bought this pump at HF 3 years ago and it has worked flawlessly for all that time

I bought one to help with the draining of our hot tub where the water stays in the humps of the seats.
Ours quits fairly often but I just spin it by hand for a second and it starts back up.
I've even taken it apart and can't find anything wrong with it.
