So picking up women and men is not that hard, you just can't ever take a rejection personally. You should never do that in any situation (jobs, partners etc), so that's important to learn either way. Then when picking up a woman or a man you like, just go up to them and strike up a conversation. Maybe there will be a "no" right away, and then you just don't. Good that they rejected you right away instead of them wasting your time, right? Yes some people can be rude, but most aren't. And if they're rude that's really just an issue between them and themselves, if all you did was striking up a conversation. Don't ever take it personally.
And when you have started talking with them you'll usually feel how it's going while doing so. Like is the chemistry working or is it strange and off. Remember - it takes two to tango, so if the chemistry is off then it's not your fault. Maybe you guys just don't work together or the other person isn't doing anything to keep the conversation alive. If that happens, then you just say thank you for the talk and move on. You can't tell only by looking at a person if they're your type of people, so don't be shallow and stick to someone just because they're physically your type. However if the person you're talking to is trying to keep the conversation alive too, you have fun and the chemistry seems good - after a while it might be good (if it's not obvious that they're flirting with you) to carefully inquire about sexuality and if they're "available" (single). Like try to do it casually, most likely the other person knows where it's going and will help along. Even if not, you'll have an answer if it's worth the while or not. Assuming they are single and ready to mingle, just keep on talking and having fun, and add in a bit more of flirting into the mix. And casually ask for their number at some point too.
Anyway, I really think having a "game plan" or whatnot is terrible. I just do what I want people to do to me. If they want something else more complicated and elaborate, we're probably not a good match anyway.
Picking up women is easy. It's only a matter of trying enough people, talking about yourself(not too much, and without mentionning your mental health issues and alcholism), and asking their day from time to time
