I just took a listen to both versions - the 70's pressing has a lot more life to it, especially where the drums come in at around 4.20. This would actually make a great video to compare new masters vs old if you still have the raw video / audio tracks... I'd be happy to cut them together :-)

I wouldn't mind of making a new audio recording of the track and send it to you, but currently I have the Rega arm fitted with the Goldring Eroica, not the 1042. Are you thinking of using your 1042 in the comparison? In any case it will sound different because we have different audio setups and recording setups as well. Do you have any idea about the way you want your video? Do you need some footage of my turntable to go along with the audio? Or would a still image be enough?
I'm trying to create the most accurate Guitar Pro Tab of this whole song, but the version I own is the super brickwalled remastered-remastered-remastered Mothership version. This is a godsend, the clarity is incredible

Wow, sounds amazing ! i also have a UK early press (1971) with A-2 ALLEN / B-2 PORKY matrix , they just came after the Red/Plums, and they are not sooooo expensive !! It would be nice to hear Roxy Music Avalon, a great song, and an excellent recording job by Rhett Davies ! Vintage UK early press ( Arun cut) would be my choice :-)

Another great track :) Sad news is that I had a first release...............sad part is it was bought new on release and went to a few too many parties and something sticky was spilled on the record and it got stuck in the sleeve and a friend tried unsuccessfully to clean it then disposed of the evidence.......in those days I didn't take good care of my vinyl. I also have a damaged Dark Side Of The Moon first pressing that was dropped on its edge onto a tiled floor and has a nasty crack making it unplayable DOH!!! Who knew how much these would be worth 50 years later.....bugger!
Beautiful song. What are we really hearing? The recording chain to digital conversion. The transmission of that lossy digital conversion to your device which most likely uses a cheap DAC to convert it back to analogue. Appreciate this stuff, it was from a time whn it took effort to listen to music and as such the music was potentially appreciated more. If you love music, get some kit and play vinyl or CD on a player with a good DAC (Wolfson) through any half decent amp and speakers. Not a fsckn phone. The difference is ...
It not worn it about being original. In fact it another staircase to heaven for me. There another nice channel which also have this nice song on vinyl records. I am amazed by the sound quality. 👍
What serial is your pressing? (And... this is pretty good for a worn issue... my dad's copy of IV is way more worn) And, for the quality guys... what would be the purist way to take a record and record it without compression loss? And, Phil... keep it up... I don't know what you have in the collection (or production pipeline)... maybe a Fleetwood Mac series (with appropriate tribute to Christine if you want), some Bowie... if you have a 78 machine, everything you can (I have about a dozen surviving 78s... don't know how to without a 78 machine, and not sure about 1/3 playback on a Stanton 681EEE... would something like that destroy the needle?)

It's a superb track, I never really give it the time of day on the radio or digitally, on vinyl though it just sounds right 👍

Thanks - yes it sounds great generally. A tiny bit of distortion from record wear at points, but otherwise I'm pretty happy with how this one sounds 👍
