My son has Tourette's and has been in high school theater for three years with many leads, he still tics on stage but I see him work his tics into his characters movements, I hope he can continue doing what he loves and that outside of high school directors don't hold it against him as he is very good. Thanks for sharing your story.
Lynne Gregorio I am a high school freshman drama major student with Tourette’s and I really aspire to be an actor, this video and your son’s story just keeps on adding onto my courage, thank you
I have the exact same tics and it’s like i have to make my voice high and I sniff ALL THE TIME and I have to fix my hair like no the correct sequence ALL THE TIME and people r just so quick to judge. Thanks for making me feel better tho
When I tic I bark like a dog it's very annoying when go out in public I always need to say "sorry i have Tourette's syndrome and if you have a Sub teacher and you have to explain everything and it's very annoying having tics (Tourette syndrome) I hope you guys don't have the sigma to say anything mean for the people that are different
Akatsuhi /TheLataleGaming Oh dear, we should accept differences as everybody is different, and it make sthe world beautiful!😍😍😍😍😍 I should work on that, and i hope you're good!😉😉
Yeah I have one that's wimpering like a dog, that one's a bit more "rarer" than my other tics but it's super annoying to see ppl turn their heads around and look at me weird
Professor Comfort taught Theater 101 in Queens College, and I didn't know his throat routine was actually a tic until he brought it up in one of the classes. On the last day of class, he did a sketch portraying all sorts of people you would meet in a NYC subway, which was a couple minutes long and required him to speak with very nominal breathing intervals. And just as he says in this video, he didn't tic at all! An amazing guy in person, just to add.
FYI, many tourette patient have OCD (Obessive Compulsive Disorder). And one of the advantage for having OCD is always ON-TIME in every aspect in his life. So many tourette sufferer like me or him tends to wake up on time and very rare to late.
I have Tourette’s too,and what I do is blink my eyes really hard, sniff,i also used to nod my head really hard that I started to vomit Anyways, great video!
Mindy Janeã Whittaker-Miniard I think he was saying that if he was to ever tell a lie, you’d notice because he wouldn’t tic due to it not affecting him while he’s acting.
I’m an aspiring actor and I struggle with Tourette’s as well. Unlike this story, though, my rica get worse when I’m performing. I don’t mind the Tourette’s much in my everyday life. It’s a minor inconvenience, except for when people give me strange looks. My one aspiration in life seems impossible due to some stupid disorder that I can’t seem to shake. Does anyone else have a similar situation or know what one in that situation could do?
Im at the point in my life at 25 where I need to admit to myself that I am struggling with Vocal Turrettes, very similar to almost exactly what this man is dealing with, mine are just more noises than throat clearing, but its all similar. Singing for me is where I can fully focus my attention on the Lyrics and Hitting the notes, keeping my mind and occupied so that the Tic cant take over. It usually happens for two reason, and sometimes combined. Anxiety, and more so, when you have quiet time, where you are thinking to yourself, trapped in your mind, it allows the tics to take over as thats all youre focused on. Its not fully just an automatic thing that happens, which is what people dont understand. Its almost sort of an “itch” but not in a tickle way, you feel something on the left, right, or middle or your throat that can only be satisfied by making a very specific noise/noises. And it comes to a point where youre body/mind know what the tic is craving, so you start doing it without thinking, and this is where it starts to feel automatic and/or uncontrollable. Its like breathing, you dont start breathing until the doctor slaps you, then you cry, then you realize that you dont have to cry to breathe. So youre body starts breathing on its own. Very similar to this. Its frustrating because its so hard to explain and I dont want to belittle, or call wrong, anybody elses situation. This is just my own personal experience as well as the people I have been speaking to for many years that also struggle. The T’s can come in so many different shapes and sizes. But I just saw myself in this man, like a mirror. I cant keep lying and telling people that im just “humming” because humming doesnt sound like that, and I get weird looks and its hard to make friends. Some people thinking im moaning, some think im sick trying to cough, some people think im totally mentally handicapped, and others are just embarrassed by it and dont want to be seen with it. I just want to be myself in life.

📣 DAILY word/phrase 🤷🎓 🖋 when tics come on 00:02
As someone who also have a condition in which you do certain things involuntarily, I understand him fully.
So if you ever wanna tell if he's lying then just see if he ticks at all, if not he's lying because youre basically acting while lying.
He is not lying. That is my cousin and I've grown up around him all my life.
Mindy Janeã Whittaker-Miniard I think he was saying that if he was to ever tell a lie, you’d notice because he wouldn’t tic due to it not affecting him while he’s acting.
Or they are hiding their tics really well
