She is absolutely astonishing as Gypsy. You get so fixated on her performance that you forget that it's even acting. I'm hoping she gets an Emmy nomination.

This series literally sets up Joey King’s career. She did phenomenal.
I've been a fan of Joey for a min but after seeing just the first two eps of this series I am blown away by her talent at 19. The scene in "teeth" when she wakes up after having them removed, to a bruised face and empty mouth felt so real. It was hard to watch because you could feel how broken and hopeless she felt. I'm just blown away by this girls performance in such a heavy role. Can't wait to see what she does next. Also can't wait to see the rest of this series.
I cried at that scene, i had to pause it for a couple of minutes just to collect my thoughts and everything else. Like Gypsy thought her teeth were falling out cuz she ate/drank sweets when in reality it was the meds her mom gave her.
@@chasityfeyvenske666 same!! i just could tell she felt utterly helpless. so true, it must have been worse since she thought she was to blame because she was 'sneaking around behind her moms back.' even then tho, i felt like she knew this was too extreme, it wasn't right and she truly felt broken in that scene.
The act is such a step up from the kissing booth she’s an amazing actor just shows how much a role of a movie can show your talent
Oh my god YES, like I liked the kissing booth at times but there was so much cringe in it. When i first heard of The Act and how she was playing the main role, I wasnt going to watch AT ALL. Then I came across some of Joeys clips playing Gypsy in the show and I was like eh, lets try it. By the end of the first episode, I was SOLD; shes absolutely phenomenal and heartbreakingly believable.
I just finished the first few episodes and I was like "damn"

Joey gave the best performance in drama series in years, she totally deserves an Emmy and a Golden Globe.

I have an incredible amount of sympathy for Gypsy. She went through something so twisted that I don't know how she even came away. No, I don't think she reacted the way us as outsiders might, but if I were in Gypsy's shoes, I don't even know how I would have reacted. I can't see her as a monster no matter how hard I try

Is so good to see how she is excited to talk about the project she is involved in. She seems proud to be in a show that she actually likes.
I like that she’s talkative and actually cares about the show and the experiences she gained from it. A lot of the time it doesn’t matter how good the interviewer is, if the person they are interviewing gives bland, short answers.
The conversation flows more naturally when you can tell they truly enjoyed the work they did and really know their part, I’m glad she’s finally got her time to shine and has finally gotten a challenging roll because she has real talent.
I hate awkward interviews and this one wasn’t awkward it gave us real answers, like they truly are discussing the case.
The first two episodes were amazing I cant wait for more !

iv'e only watched the two episodes that are on hbo. And i've got to say it's brilliant.
because, when you watch the documentary, you hear all these horrible facts that happened, but i feel like i could not connect to it. I guess because, we hear so much shit all over the world, all the time. it takes a lot to shake me these days. So actually *seeing* these factual things REALLY made me understand the horror Gypsy went through - on a personal level.
when the documentary said " she lost all her teeth due to side effects from medicin she obviously did not need... I just felt sad for her.
but seeing it in the show, how gypsy ( joey) cries and breaks down in the chair at the dentist hearing she was having her teeth pulled out right before anesthesia takes over, that was brutal. Then afterwards how depressed she was seeing herself like that. it really got to me in a way that a documentary couldn't.
So that's why i feel this show is important. Because it makes you put yourself in her shoes. understanding it in a whole other way.
It is really well acted. I can't wait to see the next episodes.

Indeed-- she has a Young Artist from Ramona and Beezus, and a Kids Choice from The Kissing Booth, and she almost took an Emmy for The Act, so surely there's precedent and impetus, not just for an Oscar, but also for a second chance at an Emmy (and I don't care what she takes it for [lead, supporter, you name it], so long as she takes one)!

Dee Dee def was a nutcase. What she did to her daughter was so cruel and inhumane. I pray Gypsy will have good life one day and she will do something positive with herself.

I think she misspoke when she said Love. Didi most definitely didn't love her daughter; this was selfish obsession. She perhaps loved the money and attention she was getting from abusing her daughter. But not love, not any more than the obsession that a stranger who tortures their victims just as Didi, did. She did worse than the most traumatic stories of strangers abusing victims. It was kind of weird that producers decided not to to put in some even worse scenes such as being tied to the bed for 2 wks. But yes this girl was magnificent, I hope she builds a career from this.
That would make the show more dark which might be unsuitable for so many.

Was Dee Dee abused by her mother? It seems to me this behavior is not the first generation but just the generation that got caught. I wonder was the part about Dee Dee’s Mom setting her up to go to prison concerning grandpa check, so she could have her baby. It’s a lot going on but they didn’t see what the devil had waiting. 😢 just sad.
