It's as far away from now as 1926 was then, and people woulda said exactly the same in 1974 about 1926. In a time as seemingly distant as 2070, some will look back at 2022 as if it wasn't too long ago. Time is relentless and sometimes seems to pass through a fairground mirror before it hits our perception of it.
@Maxwell Boyne It's debatable. Between 1926 and 1974 there was another World War, the beginning of immigration, and a created 'counterculture' from the 1960s onwards, with television being the main change agent. Vastly different times with abortion becoming legal, plane journeys becoming the norm, and feminism starting to rear it's head. The internet has obviously changed things a lot this century, but what we see culturally now is a rehash of 60s/70s culture, albeit with machines making the music usually, rather than people. But a lot of the accepted ideals from the 1970s are still in play today. It's the last two years where things have really changed obviously, which could ironically see 2070 being less advanced than 1926.
Been to wembley cup finals with the Boro, finally seen us win a cup, went to a European cup final in Eindhoven against seville, travelled Europe watching Boro, but as a 10 year old watching us romp the league and get promotion in front of nearly 40 000 crowds at Ayersome park( not every week in the big games) and the following season where we took teams by suprise and finished 6th and breifly being top at crimbo and the great Bill shankly said he thought we were a contender for the title! These were some of my best memories has a lifelong long suffering lol Boro fan. god bless you big jack, you were ok for a geordie! UTB.
I spotted Celtic's Lisbon Lion, Bobby Murdoch in there resting after they'd run up the hill. He played great when Celtic knocked out Jack Charlton's team, Leeds in the European Cup Semi-Finals in 1970.
Bobby Murdoch's legs had gone by the time he was at Boro but he could read the game so well and pick a pass so well that he just ran the midfield anyway. Great player and one of Boro's best teams with Big Jack in charge
@@randyborstol2491 I was lucky enough to see him play for the Boro, possibly the best league team we ever put out. Robsons side with Juninho, Rav, Emerson and Co are up there just needed those 3 points to stay up and build on

Bobby was still a great player at the Boro, and a lot of Boro fans have an affinity with Celtic! Bobby ran the white rose pub in Middlesbrough and was always good craic! I said how come you only drink half's Bobby? He said looks better son when people want to get me a drink, I said fair enough Bobby but you have had 12 and I'm only on my lunch break from Longlands technical college lol, loved a gargle Mr Murdoch!
Can you imagine the modern day pampered professional player being told to run up a hill . He would throw a hissy fit , go off complaining to his agent and then demand a transfer .
@@johnbuffaloiam9741 actually I take that back and Pogba is a case-in point...he's a physical specimen who would leave these lads in the dust from a fitness standpoint...running up a hill would be nothing, probably would do it in half the time...remember this was the pre-pro era where most of these guys were still regularly smoking, drinking and had pretty mediocre diets...things that are just sacrilege in the modern era...I'm not saying these guys weren't fit but if they'd packed in those rubbish habits and they'd known how to properly get dialed in, imagine where'd they be? the salaries have gone through the roof...but so have the training standards....conditioning is at another level and they've got the best nutritionists in the world on tap....I think a number of them would be like "yeah why not? something different" get them out of the stadiums...
Middlesbrough is not a city where just a small town in Europe and to say we nearly won the European cup was alright in my eyes and won the carling cup and in a few up finals as well 🤔
How secretaries used to have millions of paperwork and no computer. Sounds like things haven’t changed there. Running up that hill those players, when training was all outdoors.

Fascinating snapshot into a time thats not too long ago but already belongs to a different world.

Imagine being Craig Johnston arriving there late 1970s from Australia
The parking, not so good 😀
Think it’s called a Farnham which was a coach builder who did estate versions on Fords big cars similar to crayford who took the roofs off

A different and much better world
Jack ❤️❤️🇮🇪🇮🇪
I’m still struggling with the fact he was only 39 years old 😳
Always think Sean bean should play big jack in a film. Jack needs to be honoured with a biopic
he's too short, 5 foot 9
If i remember correct he was a Geordie from Northumberland originally, so it was not far from home for him
Love how he refers to Bobby as "our kid", even when both were managers, haha.
A working class hero is something to be,
He drove a MkIV Zodiac with an Abbot eatate conversion.
That was an extremely rare car.
He was also (I believe) a footballer who played for England.
He really did block that car in at the start of the clip
a nice time to upload this video Just before the boro make the playoffs
They won't not good enough unfortunately for them
Hope you.re right but seems unlikely right now.
They blew it
Jack - "There's no war between me and our kid"......Switches to the Boro players doing SAS Selection Training 👀😮😆
Pmsl i thought that too lol
I had a few offers abroad but id never want to move down south
Running up a hill with Jack. Now there's a proper training session!
Proper team work, Jack using the boys to flush out the partridge so he could have a pop with his gun 😂 field sports 😂
Haicuts...love em
Could you imagine premiership players running up that hill everyone of them would have broken a bone somewhere in the body
😂 thought the very same! Prem' players would cry putting those hoofers on 😂
Please tell me there's more of this.
England at its best
Happy days
No tattoos or handbags at that training session.
No but an old school Rothmans yearbook on the desk.
@Ian Thompson It's now sky sports. Not quite the same. I used to buy it every year and the News of the World annual too.
Only Jack’s thong and peephole bra.
@Ian Thompson When was the change exactly? 😅
There’s smithing wrong with tattoos. They have been around since humans existed. It’s the lame handbags and dumb haircuts that make me sick.
I've been married over 20 years. I only found out last year that Jackie went to my in-laws wedding....I was impressed..!
Wah Jackie

Is this part of a longer programme? Thanks x
No electric windows for wor Jack!😄
