- This week we introduce Joel to a classic Busan delicacy, live sea eel!
It was one of the most recommended dishes in the comments so we headed out to the Busan Jagalchi Fish Market, and of course your recommendations are always a guaranteed success!
We also happened to go to the best eel place there so we got the best introduction to live eel possible! Joel had some bad experiences with Korean seafood but thanks to the friendliness of Busan people and the amazing food we managed to turn him around :)
이번 편에선 부산의 별미 중 하나인 산 꼼장어와 장어를 조엘에게 소개해봅니다!
여러분들이 제일 많이 추천한 부산 음식이어서 부산 자갈치 시장으로 갔는데
역시나! 여러분들의 입맛과 추천은 언제나 옳죠!! ㅎㅎㅎㅎ
계다가 우연찮게 가장 맛있는 집으로 들어가게 돼서 꼼장어 경험을 제대로 한 거 같아요!
아무래도 조엘은 해물에 대한 안 좋은 추억이 있어서 이번 기회에 그 생각을 어떻게 바꿔 줄까 했는데!
음식도 정말 맛있고 부산분들의 정을 느끼면서 먹으니까 전체적인 분위기와 경험에 뿅 가버렸어요!!

when things move around like that after its separated from its head (ex: chopped live octopus, chopped fresh eel) its due to the nerve signals that's remaining after its been dead (it'll go away after a few seconds or minutes) so its not alive in the sense you're thinking where they're aware of their chopped parts and they're squirming from the pain, its literally just a muscle reflex

Personally I think it’s a MUCH better system than what we have in the west where you just have to pray that your seafood is fresh and not frozen or even rotten when eating out. After watching Gordon Ramsay’s kitchen nightmares and seeing how common frozen and even legit rotten seafood is at American restaurants, I won’t touch it from any restaurant that doesn’t specialize it, let you see it (whether in a tank, ice display or sushi bar) and isn’t highly rated. And I live in the coast! Still some of the worst offenders on the show were coastal, so yeah, show me the lobster tank or it’s a no-go lol. So yeah the more my seafood is moving around before it gets cooked, the better. But sadly it’s true that a lot of westerners don’t think like this. I’m really into food and especially seafood and I think most people who are really into food and seafood understand. Unfortunately many are ignorant about foreign and especially eastern cuisine. Their loss.
I dont know why, but everytime i watch any video from this channel the people seems to be very relax, kind of rarely heard of cursing unlike the american youtubers (some of them try so hard to be famous). The guests are funny and witty. Whether josh is in UK or in korea, both settings doesnt really make a difference . This channel is just another new level of video making that doesnt cause any parties to feel uneasy. I mean , look how he treat his friends trying the korean culture. So much patience and passion by the way he explain to them. You guys are really good people. Even though most videos covers on food exploration, IT IS a video with a good content. The conversations during the dine just feels like, you know, reflecting on life i would say. It is just the way to respect and experiencing other culture. Good job koreanenglishman. Keep producing more videos.

꿈틀거리는거 보여주는 이유는 초창기 지갑 공장에서 나온 꼼장어인지 활어인지 눈으로 확인시켜주는 겁니다. 지갑공장에서 나온거라면 상당히 오래된 고기겠죠, 그래서 굽기 전에 꿈틀거리는걸 보여주죠 별로 잔인스러워서 그런건 아니랍니다. 여기에 한가지 팁이 또 있어요 꿈틀거리는 거는 잘보시면 몇조각 위에 있는거만 그래요 사람시선이 꿈틀거리면 자연스럽게 그곳을 보게 되죠 그래서 전체 고기가 같은 활어라고 생각해요 근데 사실은 위에꺼 몇조각만 활어구요 밑에 있는 거는 먹는데는 지장없는 활어가 아닐수도 있는 고기 입니다. 이것도 가계 마다 차이가 있어서요 부산이 고향인 사람들은 믿을 만한 가계에 가서 먹는 답니다.

정말 좋은 일 많이 하시는 것 같습니다. 처음부터 지금까지 계속 동영상을 다 봤는데, 처음에 별로 주목을 못 받을 때부터 시작해서 지금까지 꾸준하게 열심히 세계적으로 한국을 잘 알려주셔서 감사할 따름입니다. 이대로 꾸준하게만 해주시면 향후 10년 이후에는 유네스코가 지정한 세계문화유산에 기재되셔도 될 것 같아요....^^ 무엇보다 마음에 드는 것은 조쉬씨께서 Begging을 안하셔서 좋습니다. Interacting을 하시려고 노력하시는 것 같아서 정말 좋습니다. ^^

I was adopted from Busan when i was very young. Its nice to see what kind of scenery and food i could've seen and eaten. Learning Korean just so i can go over and visit :)

자갈치시장.. 바가지 엄청심하고 물건 값만 물어보고 너무 비싼가격에 돌아서면 뒤에서 대놓고 들리게 욕함. 욕듣고 쳐다보면 뭘꼬라보느냐는듯이 째려보고. 물론 일부상인만 그렇겠지만 나는 3번물어봐서 3번 다 그 경험했음.. 4번째상포도 너무비쌌지만 어딜가도 다 바가지일것 같았고 또 욕쳐먹기 싫어서 울며겨자먹기로 그냥 시켜서 먹었음. 같이간 사람도 있기에.. 다신 안가기로 마음먹고 하도 화가나서 부산여행 전체까지 가기가 싫어질뻔함. 개인적으로 최악의장소.
자갈치시장때문에 너무 빡쳐서 괜히 영국남자 영상에 울분토했네요 혼자;; 조쉬님 영상은 항상 잘 보고있습니다.
꼼장어는 부전시장쪽에 꼼장어 골목 있음 거기도 유명하고 맛있음.바가지도 없고. 자갈치는 바가지 있는지 모르겠는데 부전시장쪽은 확실히 바가지 없어요.

개인적으로 자갈치시장보다는 민락회센터가 나음
상인들이 이런식으로 장사하면서 대형마트생기면 빼액거리는게 웃기다 ㅋㅋ

Hagfish(꼼장어, 곰장어, 먹장어) is also kind of fish, but some scientists insist that hagfish is the closest relative of fishes but it should not be included in fish. So hagfish is still controversial between vertebrate and invertebrate nowadays, but as for traditional sight, hagfish is vertebrate and it is treated by most ancient group in vertebrate. Worms and octopuses are much separated from fishes and hagfish. Thank you for good video!

Old video, but the sea eel is a Hagfish. It's similar to a lamprey or other cartilaginous fish, not octopus or other mollusks. They're quite well known for producing a ton of slime when caught and feeding off carcasses that sink to the bottom of the ocean.
